What's your thoughts on the Master?

did you find him sympathetic? what do you think was unique about him? was he justified? etc.

How did he get to Cathedral from Mariposa, not competent world building, game sucks.... 1/10
Just kidding I enjoyed him but people put too much spin to his motives. He was delusional and even though he thought The Unity would slove everything; he was a tyrant and Leviathian in a Poly sci sense. Nice, that he can be reasoned with but to bad it happend so late for him/it to change course.

In the order of the questions in the OP's post:

  • Has a sympathetic background and motives but did horrible things so he's more like someone to pity.
  • What was unique is that he was a villain with good intentions despite his decisions and can be made to feel guilt over his crimes (unlike other villains incapable of being convinced either due to insanity, conceit etc.)
  • His motives do not outweigh the loss of life and destruction that took place through his decisions. Plus his actions would have doomed all of humanity and sentient life if the sterility issue was never be fixed. He may have good intentions but in the end, he had to be put down since he set off a chain of events that could have doomed humanity rather than save it.
Overall, he was a good main antagonist.
 
I pretty much posted my thoughts on the Master in your other topic, but in short he's a well-written and understandable antagonist. Plus he has Jim Cummings as his VO (and Kath Soucie).
 
I think his plan would have worked well enough if he weren't surrounded by yes-men who were like "yeah no our balls totally work just fine that's right yep mmm hmm" odd that he couldn't just read their minds or do some psychic shit to find out the truth...

His followers are also dumb AF and most have no memory of What happened or who they were before they became super mutants. He has every reason to question their ability to answer any type of scientifically oriented question accurately.

Dumb is limited to failed super mutants and that's not a legitimate reason. If anything, he has even MORE reason to believe them because they supposedly don't have the lying tendencies of Humans.

I always thought it was odd that the SM would lie to him. And even more odd that it's apparently only the Males that were lying to him...
 
I'm not sure if I missed a joke here, but at the risk of being that one too-earnest guy, nobody was lying to him. The males could really only know that their equipment seemed to be working normally, which it presumably was if their reports were coming back "all systems go." The fact that they were shooting blanks could only be determined by asking the females whether there had been any successful conceptions (or, possibly, whether they'd been ovulating since being dipped).

How this detail went overlooked for nearly a decade while The Master built his armies is something of a head-scratcher, though.
 
And what about these female identities absorbed into The Master's collective mind? Why couldn't he have asked them what's going on?

Personally I have two interpretations of why the Lieutenant hasn't told the Master. He either truly believes that the Unity can work, or he's concerned he'll lose his power if the Master finds out.
