Hello all,

I am curious to know if there are any people on the forum who have Dead Space 2 for the PC or the consoles and what they think of the game so far.

I am not getting it myself due to the SOLIDSHIELD DRM but I played the previous two games so it would be nice to know is really a sequel and not a sort of updated expansion.

Edit: and it seems not such a big loss.

I know DLCs are basically cash ins but when you miss out on additional story chapters I find it reason enough not to bother with a publisher at all anymore.

Very shitty move by EA there, always shafting PC gamers.

I'm currently playing through Dead Space at the moment, the game is fun but it has a bunch of problems. The lack of a console and other PC features coupled with the stupid FOV is annoying me. The controls aren't exactly smooth and the fact that having VSync enabled forces the game to go full retard makes VSync useless. I also own Extraction on the Wii already (just haven't played it yet), it's likely I'll play through it after.

Might get around to acquiring Dead Space 2 on sale or otherwise, but until then it's "meh".

liked the atmosphere of the first one, diddnt like the enemies, hated the controls. Never finished the 2nd area. Fuck that game.

If you're looking for actual survival horror, you can do better.

For survival horror as it exists now, it's good.

And don't bother with the collectors edition, the stuff is crap.

I was also contemplating on buying this one due to the good feedback I keep hearing about the first one. Good thing I caught this thread.

Jesus, the games that are coming out of the wood work these days.

Only if you enable it in-game.
Too much trouble to force it through my video card when it should work through the game if they didn't fuck it up so bad.

How about you actually play the game? Thats the best way to actually learn if you like it or not.
Hmm, this doesn't sound familiar at all. As has been said everytime this is suggested, some people like to find out about a game before they toss down cash, especially $60.

Fair point, I do that sometimes, though I rarely formulate my view on reviews. I guess I prefer to experience something than simply listen to other peoples opinions and base my own on that.

Certainly but with demos becoming a thing of the past for AAA titles, first hand experience is ever more difficult to obtain without purchasing the product. Word of mouth is basically the best source of information in cases like this but it really requires finding people with the same tastes.

The game is decent.

The game is more focused on using creepy situations rather than simply hiding a monster in each closet. They use a few new monsters to great effect, especially the Stalkers which will freak you out the first time you come across them.

The things that bring it down are the cutscenes and the story. The story drags around without fleshing anything out until the last few chapters making the first half of the game seem rather pointless for making you run around for no good reason.

 Too much trouble? Really? Are you sure you want to be a PC gamer? There are things like consoles for folk who can't afford to be troubled like this. I agree it's a very stupid bug and all, but it hardly ruins anything.

I liked the first one a lot. I played it on a 360 though and I do seem to remember hearing that PC version had some busted controls.

The game wasn't perfect but I found combat to be quite fun and dug the atmosphere a lot. It was "stranded on a spaceship full of nasty shit" done right, and that's something special in my book.

It sounds like DS2 is very similar to the first game, which isn't necessarily bad but still disappointing. I'd say get it only if you really enjoyed the first one.

I said it's too much trouble when the fucking game is supposed to be able to do it. It proves it's a shitty console port, and was completely beside the point whether I was too lazy or not to enable VSync through my video card. Try reading in context.

Dead Space II did not impress me as much as the original game - mainly because I felt as if the features (out in space, ambiance, etc.) of the first game were lacking in the second. While the game play mechanics were sound, it really felt like a lull in the franchise, which is worrisome.

I found the first one too scary... doubt I'll play the second.
Really?

Dead Space is hardly scary, then again, I have played a lot of proper Survival Horror games.
