Wild Wasteland-- your thoughts

Ok, I keep having a difficult time decidin if I want to play with the Wild Wasteland perk/trait enabled. At first, I say to myself that big, obvious references would break the immersion factor of the game. But then I remember that even FO1 had things like the TARDIS, and Fallout without at least some clever or witty references could end up being like *shudder* Fallout 3.
But then when I've made up my mind, I realize that I really don't want a game which breaks the "feel" every five seconds to wave a pop-culture reference in your face. Oh vey!

So, what do you guys think about the perk? An does anyone know how blatant and frequent the references will be?

Will never play with it. I bet the game will have enough lulzy shit even without it.

I will be playing with it. I have a feeling that there will be some off the wall if not corny nods towards Fallout 1/2 with the perk enabled.

Fallout 2 was my favorite in the Fallout series by a longshot. I'm one of those hypocritical jerks that whine about verisimilitude in Fallout 3 but love the random cultural references in Fallout 2. I will be playing with the trait on.
I might be tempted to choose a different trait on subsequent playthroughs, but probably not.

I imagine there will already be "luzly" off the wall comments in the game, I just expect the perk to take it to the extreme with very silly jokes and breaking of the fourth wall.

Avellone I believe already said you don't get any of the funny weird things if you don't have the trait. So that people have a definite choice to have them or not experience them at all.

Honestly, I really don't expect that much of internet memetic culture in the game. But that's just me. Ill probably play multiple games with and without it.

"memetic culture" is an oxymoron in my personnel opinion, I hope to the lord that this has some good references like in fallout two, and not just a bunch of memes thrown in to appease the mindless masses.

Depends of what you consider 'funny weird things'. Wig-wearing super mutants and Elvis impersonators gangs qualify as 'funny weird things' to a lot of people and they're part of the core content of the game.

At least we get back story towards the lulzy shit. It isn't just thrown in. It isn't "LOL that Super Mutant should be wearing a wig!" There's reasons, REASONS!

I kinda made a topic about this. I wonder if enabling the trait activates trigger zones like in fallout 3, or if they are randomly generated as you move around the game world.

Seeing as the NCR troops are dressed like British Soldiers, I'm hoping for some good british references with the WW perk.

"Memetic culture" is dumb in it's own right as a phrase, but not as an oxymoron. Memes are basically unavoidable in culture. Deal with it. It's shit other than pictures of cats with captions and shit on the internet. But 'lulz' refers almost exclusively to stupid shit from the internet (and stupid people on the internet.). Not the kind of jokes I expect to see in FONV

Glad to see someone agrees with me, but I really do have almost no hopes for NV anymore, the more I know the less I want it, I've already canceled my order for it, and have gone back to the good ol fallout 1.

Sounds like it adds humorous and out-of-nowhere events so I might try it as it also has references to FO 1 and 2, wow :)

"Not for the faint of heart or the serious of temperament" I guess means some sort of (Looney Tunes) funny happenings, unpredictable.
