Will Obsidian make another FO?

This is my shovel.

There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I will use my shovel to dig a grave into which I shall deposit:

- Gamebryo.
- Bethesda Softworks' lousy game development.
- Bethesda Softworks' lousy storywriting.

As long as these three things are put behind us, I fervently hope that Obsidian stays firmly behind the wheel and makes more installments of FO. But all the talent in the world can't save the franchise if things that nearly killed it remain unchanged.

Bethsoft can be the publisher all it wants, as long as it lets people with the actual knack for game development and a feel for what Fallout is make the important decisions.

The good/bad news is that it's very unlikely Bethesda cares enough about "hardcore Fallout fans" to be throwing any bones at them. There simply aren't enough of those to produce a multi-million-dollar game for. Whatever their reasons for handling FONV they way they did, that certainly wasn't one of them.

This is where I have a different perspective.

Although FO3 was a poorly written game that stepped pretty heavily on the canon of the originals, it introduced the concept of 'Fallout' to millions of new players. A good number of these players moved on to educate themselves on the lore of the universe (thanks in large part to 'The Vault'), have had it gradually taught to them by word of mouth from a variety of forum posters or went out and purchased the originals outright (putting it in the Top 10 of PC sales late into 2009).

All of these factors combined to create a large number of neo-hardcore Falloutians that Bethesda could not afford to ignore so easily. New Vegas arrives. Now add that I have yet to see a poll where there wasn't a heavy majority (75/25) declaring New Vegas a superior product to Fallout 3. This in spite of NV being in its currently buggy condition & competing with the 'first love' perspective these players were likely to have with Fallout 3 + expansions.

None of this points to Obsidian being a lock to create FO4, but the depth/maturity brought back to the series was very well-received by the neo & hardcore alike. Safe to assume that fans of the originals will get more of what they were hoping for in FO3 with FO4.

I really hope so,fallout 3 was awesome, but giving the series back to (some of) the original creators was a step in the right direction.
Will obsidian be making another fallout title?
Depends on how well Fallout new vegas did in the sales department.
But i doubt it :(

Dude, it's making money hand over fist. You've seen the NDP estimates on the main page, right?

Bugs are to be expected and, so long as the patch rolls out sooner than later, may even be forgotten. They added so much on top of what Bethesda gave them (hardcore mode, crafting, 40% more dialog, a new internal dialog system, faction reactivity, etc) that I'm sure Bethesda is understanding of the difficulties Obsidian had to hurdle.

I doubt Fallout 4 will be made by them but I'm sure we'll see them work on the franchise again.

I would like to see it done like this:
Main Games- Bethesda
Side Games- Obsidian

Why do you want the main games to suck.

I don't want them to suck. I just think that if Beth explained alot of the errors in F3, then it would have been a great game. All they need to do in FO4 is explain these. Then it makes FO3 look beter in terms of Cannon.

I just think that if Beth explained alot of the errors in F3, then it would have been a great game.

And what kind of explanation would suddenly make the main quest line and it's ending not shit?
Or the minor stuff, like bobbleheads powerups and powerfull teddy-bear-throwing guns?

Obviously, they shipped the game knowing there were 200+ quest and scripting issues to be fixed.

This is true for every release. Games don't go gold the day before the release and developers don't stop working in the meantime. Day 1 patches are commonplace.

I hope they will, Bethesda should stick to their own franchise because their "RPG" style and elements works better in that franchise than it does in Fallout.
