[WIPz] Golem Bouncer

I want to be encouraging to any new artist…”yeah go for it”, but sometimes you have to be realistic. Fallout doesn’t require high end modeling and texturing skills, animation is another issue, but these works are hundreds of hours away from being even Fallout acceptable. By acceptable I mean something that fits in naturally with the games vision and artistic style. Now if Prosper is at the start of his/her critter building endeavors – then I say – “good try, keep working at it” – but if Prosper considers these Fallout ready, then I’m sorry to say – “no they’re not”. If the games original critters were of that standard, then I wouldn’t even bother playing the game in the first place. Remember when people first started transferring Fallout Tactics critters into Fallout 2, it was identified that the two games aesthetics were completely different - (Tactics critters were built by professional game artists).

I’m all for people being creative and having the energy to contribute to this excellent game, but please be realistic Prosper, drop using ZBrush (I’m assuming the blob monsters were built with it) and pick up 3D Max and learn the software properly (polygon modeling). Start from the beginning and do all the tutorials, take up drawing and if you are truly serious, then in about a year from now you will have something excellent to show us, and we will all be grateful for it. I’m not trying to stomp on your balls…I’m trying just to give you some worthwhile advice.

By the way how old are you, and where are you based – just curious. :look:

This has gone on long enough. Prosper is a world class game modder so you guys need to show him some respect and also he is the official modder for DAC and i represent DAC so if you guys mess with one DACker you must with all DACkers.

Wow! Your loyal fan base is growing, Prosper.

^Hahaha... and Cotinuum's crusade against Prosper's evil continues!!
You should learn moar about my Holy Crusades while playing MR :D

(your crusade is righteous of course, but it would seem that MR is... *arhem*... trolling you a little bit?)
Troll vs. troll vs. troll. Soon these boards will be about trolling only. Super cool.

Please support your argument with evidence (and no the itchy Yeti isn’t good enough), something better, and I will eat my words and beg forgiveness from Prosper. But I sense a certain sarcastic undertone to your defense of Prosper, but I’m willing to believe that one day he will be a good “Fallout wannabe artist”…one day.

Make it flesh-toned, non-hairy and a frankenstein monster, a humanoid buddy to centaurs. I hate those late-game centaur/floater encounters, fucking boring and those things take damn many hits to take down. Any variety to those encounters would be appreciated.

I don't think your work is very good but I know you're just starting out. If you like doing what you're doing keep it up. Revel in the fact that some folks get pissed off about what you're doing.

This is probably the worst/most blatant troll job I've seen on these boards. You got me to reply though, congrats.

Pixote these are your posts.

You’re on a roll Prosper, though the movement is awkward, with some practice and many years of hard work you super mutants will be the envy of all.

Pixote.. first it was YEARS, then HUNDREDS OF HOURS, and now your last post seems to indicate that any day now I will be a success.
Judging by the times between the posts I have listed, you are either very inaccurate or indecisive. Take your friend Continuum and do not return to this topic until you both have your own true grasp of the fundamentals.

@Pooperscooper, as always I appreciate your support.

There's no need for that sort of comment, prosper. And you have no right to ban people from topics. If you don't want criticism of your work, whether it is constructive or otherwise, then don't post it.

Pixote is correct though. Getting things to match fallout correctly is very tricky indeed and will indeed take hundreds of hours to master properly even with a reasonable basis in making art / editing art. If you enjoy it , keep at it and you'll improve.

Hm, here is my personal opinion:
In the Fallout, there is a isometric view to the scenery. Player (real person i mean) is watching whole scenery from theoretically 10 - 15 meters overview - it's my estimation, i'd calculated with the height of buildings. If it's true, then you can't see small details, like hair on the dogs or molerats; you may see only silhouettes.
Also i agree with others, this critter does not fit well with the authentic Fallout 1 & 2 atmosphere.

Prosper I’m not trying to discourage you; I’m just trying to be realistic. Hundreds of hours or years are more or less the same thing, it just means…with time you will get a lot better, and eventually produce worthwhile art for Fallout. If you only want people to give you a pat on the back and tell you that these animations are great, then you’ll never really improve. Most people here are pretty generous, and don’t want to disappoint you, but most people here have never built anything in 3D before. Keep building your critters, but also be open to constructive criticism, (I’ve had to with some of the work I have completed recently). If your open minded and look clearly at a situation sometimes you have to eat your pride and accept it.

If you really want to be a big help with critter building then do what Xíl and Josan12 do, make new critters in Photoshop from the preexisting critters. If you’re not sure how, PM me and I’ll help you out.

The first "thing" looks great for Fallout, especially the way how its skin is mutated. But I think it has pretty unrealistic anatomy. Anyway, don't let that disappoint you, it will be such a shame if you drop off that great critter! Also, it desperately needs colorizing, please someone do this.

However, the hairy critter is indeed unfitting for the current Fallout and Fallout 2 locations. It's because it's hot everywhere and biologically, having hair is a drawback. I somehow love how the model looks. But it can be applied just for a mod that contains cold places. Or possibly as some kind of a mad experiment.

I can't say anything about anyone's modelling skills, because I have zero modelling skills and expertise. But I love the first creature.

Would you be able to make an insect swarm? Much like the spell from BG 2?

Just a bunch of spots moving in all directions.

But a lot smaller so that it would fit in 1 hex and would represent the EPA's fruit fly? Or rather a small swarm of fruit flies.
