Would a dedicated melee button work?

I would be okay with one if it was like the L4D melee command, sort of a knockback that doesn't do much damage but is useful if you're getting horded.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I want too. Dedicated melee weapons for melee combat, and the ability to kick, pistolwhip or whatever to knock enemies back a bit or deal minor damage enough to kill a rat or something.

Hmm, yes alternative fire sounds good, and is actually derivative of a feature from the original games, plus, bayonets are cool.

I assume a bayonet could be a weapon mod for any firearms without alternate fire?

Cause Fallout shouldn't be more simplified.

Want meele? Use meele weapon.

No, you misunderstand.

An alternate fire system would work by pressing a key and switching to another mode of attack for the same weapon, like in the first two games.

For instance, if you have a shotgun, the primary firing mode is as normal, but by pressing a key on the keyboard, you switch to alternate fire, which in this case would be a burst fire mode.

You'd have rifles with Bayonets on the end, and a quick swing or stab would be the alternate attack.

Of course the amount of damage that does varies based on your melee skill.
