Millim What the fuck is this for a shit?!

So I'm sorry of this is against forum rules, but after months of having built in frustration in me, I just felt like it's time to really get this out there, really tear this game apart, which upsets me as it's something I don't want to do, but as the title suggests, fuck it, here it goes.
And yes, I've said my opinions of Fallout 4, but I don't feel those do anything justice, so here it is...

Fallout 4 is a game that gets more and more disappointing by the day. From the minute it was released, I was there, I bought into all the hype and thought "this game just couldn't fail me".
After buying Phantom Pain earlier in the year and I disagreed with a lot of the problems people had with that game.

So, I forked out £100 of F4 and the Season Pass (I also bought the Strategy Guild cause it seemed like a nice collectable) and I played it when I got home. I enjoyed the start, sadly Ron Pearlman didn't narrate it, but he was there in spirit at least.
The prologue seemed a little short for me but when I got to Vault 111, this felt like Fallout. For me, the Vaults now feel like a 3D version of the Vaults from the old games.
So I continue playing and escape the Vault. The first few hours were pretty good, but as it went on, I just sort lost the will to play it. I wanted to go back to Metal Gear Solid V, explore that open world, do the same shit I had done in that a hundred times again.
The world of Fallout 4 is impressive, I like how open it is, but the fact that every enemy is a bullet sponge just takes me out of it. The voice acting went from being decent into it just being a terrible idea. The dialogue system I'm certain is the reason new born babies cry, The writing is so weak we may as well shoot it before it suffers any more pain, the perk system makes progression so boring, the fact that the two genders both have a different back ground in a fucking role-playing game, when they have no reason to have a different back ground is not only stupid beyond belief, but insulting in the fact that Bethesda believe a woman cannot be a pre-war soldier and is just insulting to the player's intelligence ("Oh you're a guy, well you have to a tough manly man, you're a woman, you have to be smart and charismatic even if it makes no fucking sense in the actual game"), and the ending just pissed me off beyond belief, there are not enough words or anti-depressants in this world that could possibly get me through that ending.

But the worst thing about this game is, and it's the reason why I'm just like "Fuck it",
    it's actually a good game.

Yes, the biggest problem this game has is that it's actually good, never has that been a problem with a game before. But the World is a lot better than 3, we have farms while still having that depressing atmosphere.
The characters have a lot more personality, companions feel like actual people this time.
There are new factions at last, even if they are weak compared to the ones we had in New Vegas.
Some of the missions were actually some of the best in the series, the ones with the Pod thing were the highlights of actually showing extremely good back story.
The small details from the Holotapes are where the writer's shine through. We get small areas where we see the results of post war and it just adds to the overall world. Some of these actually make me feel like shit.
The gunplay is by far improved, power armour has some weight to it. The story (well, story concept) is also pretty good, it just needed to be worked on more.

Like, this isn't a bad game, and there are things in it that can keep me occupied for hours.
But when New Vegas, a game that was released 5 years ago on a dated engine, feels more progressive in terms of gameplay mechanics, story branching and the writing overall, of course expectations are going to be high.
In a way, Fallout New Vegas has gone from being the game that Fallout 3 should have been, to the game Fallout 4 should have been. And I can see Bethesda at least tried to make a better game. The story branching is there, but it makes no difference. It's managed to retain the crucial flaws of Fallout 3 while only working on the minor details. Which is a polar opposite to New Vegas.

But maybe I'm being too harsh comparing Fallout 4 to New Vegas, afterall, New Vegas is one of my favourite games of all time, 2nd only to Metal Gear Solid 3.
Maybe I should compare it to F3,in which case I prefer 4. But it's still the same just with a few new improvemnets. Heck, even the stories are similar.

Anyway, I'm sorry if I went off on one there, in all honesty, you can just ignore this or tell me off if this breaks forum rules, I really just needed to get this all of my chest, of which I'm sure you guys understand at least (I'd much rather post this here than some Bethesda forum, even through that would be amusing).
I don't hate Fallout 4 or anything, I'm just tired of a game like this receiving the praise it does when we have much better games on the market. Of which case, F4 should be with those better games. My only hope is that Bethesda at least listens this time, they have to, people won't be fooled again. And maybe they will release decent DLC, all I'm asking is for at least one, at least one Pitt or Point Lookout (and no Mothership Zeta 2, please God no).
I hear they have DLC set underwater, that sounds nice.

Anyway, again, I apologise for this long rant thing, it's seriously stuff I just wanted to get out there.
I will give F4 one thing, it's made me able to sympathise with this forum a lot more.

Games (and other piece of fiction really) aren't necessarily good (or bad) in ways beyond "this resonated with me in a manner I found meaningful or enjoyed" (or failed to do so.) We can dig and come up with reasons that we did or did not connect with things, but it ultimately reduces to "I value these things but not these other things."

So it suffices to say that while there are certainly things about Fallout 4 that are noticeable improvements over its numerical predecessor, there are also reasons that a lot of people aren't connecting with it either how they did with previous Fallout or Bethesda games or as much as they had hoped to. I figure this more or less comes down to "some of what Fallout 4 changed from the games people liked that were getting them excited about Fallout 4 simply did not change in a way that reflected what people value."

It doesn't even need to be the same thing for everybody. Like one person can hate the new dialogue system and how they don't really get to express themselves that much but enjoy all the shooting and the looting, and at the same time another person can think the dialogue and RPing is fine, but just be bored because there's not that much to do except acquire loot, XP, and a bodycount. The thing is? Neither of those people are wrong. They're just expressing a personal preference (even if they don't express it in terms that make it clear.)

So it's worth Bethesda considering what they changed that let people down, because fundamentally an important part of making games (also movies, books, music, and sandwiches) is understanding what you can do that will affect people in a way they appreciate. I'm really not sure why there would be a forum rule against posting though, so I think you're in the clear.

I'm right there with you op. I don't hate the game, it's a metric fuck ton of wasted potential, but I don't hate it. I am however developing a rather large bit of disdain for fans of it. I have seen on multiple forums people talking about how Bethesda will probably wrap up the ending in DLC, all at once excusing a horrible narrative while at the same time being ok with a company charging extra for a proper ending.

Yeah, I'm against BS practises like that.
If they do a free director's cut ending (much like what Mass Effect 3) then I can at least let that slide.

My overall hatred comes from the fans, they are the most annoying bunch of people on the internet. One guy message me constantly for like a month on Facebook just showing me the same screen shots of the Dog. Or a screenshot of a Deathclaw (and then he got pissed when I didn't reply, like, I have a life outside of Fallout>
He eventually deleted me cause I stopped talking to him.

And then there was the whole thing in the Facebook groups where they cried that Fallout didn't win GOTY and talked about how shit Witcher 3 was.
I was just amused that the Metal Gear fans were a lot more open that Witcher won, I gave respect to them purely because Bethboys (that's my new term for Bethesda Fanboys) didn't respect any other game than Fallout.

Oh Beth fanboys are the worse. I got death threats, DEATH THREATS!, was told to kill myself and called names all because I criticized Fallout 4 by calling it fast food, over hyped and overrated or pointing out its major flaws. Bethboys are extremely mentally stunted.

Yeah, I can't stand them half the time.
They truly are one of the worst fanbases I've come across.
They are like the Justin Bieber fangirls of gaming.

You know just when I think I've ran out of criticisms or something to rant about with this game, I see yet another Bethesda fan circle jerking to this game taking no criticism saying that it has changed the series for the better, the companions are even better than the boring companions in New Vegas, and how much more "immersive" it is. I can't stand hearing that word but that's the justification for preferring the first person view over isometric. That's a load as I was playing Underrail(isometric by the way) and I was walking through a dark windy tunnel in a cave system until I came accross some cracked rocks. I was going to destroy them until I got close enough then *BOOM* out of nowhere they exploded and I jumped in my seat(scared my poor cockatoo as she flew off my shoulder). Anyways to the point, it didn't need a first person perspective to be "immersive" or atmospheric.

Fallout 1 is just as atmospheric as Fallout 3.
And the companions to New Vegas were some of the best characters I've seen in gaming in general.
I find that Bethesda know their fans, and F4 is surprisingly not as well received by those fans as we may think.
Yeah, we mostly get people say how good the game is and explain why we should never complain about something we paid real money for.
But it seems people have caught on to just how shallow F4 truly is.
The atmosphere is there, but it's nowhere near as immersive as 1 or 2.
Heck, 1 and 2 are the best for atmosphere in the series, even New Vegas didn't have that kind of feel.

People just don't get RPGs it seems. When F4 is nominated for an RPG of the year award, you know something is wrong,

I don't find Fallout 4 that atmospheric, well a little bit but it's hard to keep it that way once you see things like three groups of enemies living a couple feet from each other without shedding blood. Hell there's even more monsters living in Boston than humans, it's like a circus.
Hey I really wanted to enjoy it myself but I just can't do it, I can't be bothered to finish the game as after that "Molecular Level" quest things get worse and the game becomes extremely boring. The progression system really sucks when the only useful perks are the ones that make your weapons kill things faster, I'd like to think that perks are not for percentage increases but things that leveling up a skill couldn't give like preforming a special aimed shot that guarantees a critical or moving faster while sneaking(not really good with ideas).
I apologize for my rambling but I just don't see their fans becoming rational all of a sudden and see where we're coming from without frothing at the mouth for dissecting the bad points of the game.

To be fair, this is kind of a rambling post.
But yeah, the perk system was just stupid, I just hope someone makes a mod where they put the old system back.
It was actually a good system, I have no idea why Bethesda decided to change it.

I doubt it's possible, chances are that it's hard coded into the game. I think people modding Skyrim had the same issue with Skyrim's perk trees as I don't recall seeing an overhaul fixing that to the older TES format. Just have to live with the format, changing the skills on the other hand is a possibility though.

Ehh rambling is fine when you have some reason to ramble and that it's moderately detailed. I agree, the perk system was fantastic, why change it to Skyrim's lacking one?

Good... GOOD! Now bring me a copy of Fallout New Vegas. Time to support the legion.

I don't 'hate' it, but I dislike it, for being a shitty game that ruined a franchise even further.

I shall do as you ask.

Which game would you consider the stinker that started it all? I just find it hard to believe how much they screwed up this time around, I didn't even think some of their fans would start to dislike the things they did to it.

Good, I must endorse the Legion for the next elections.

Fallout 3, it started the mainstream shitzing of Fallout. Yeah same here.
