New animations 2

More update btw I just realised that the children in the original game kicked twice when they attacked I wonder a bit if that should stay or not

Anyway what remains is throwing, falling and dying animations. Also I was thinking about the girl version, and if the boy needs any changes...

Ignore the hands.... they don't move as they should....

Maybe I should have just edited the above post but I though this deserved it's own.
The kid now has all the intended animations except the deaths which I will move on to do. However I did checked how the animations the kid has would look on other critters.

First the kid with all animations I'm quite ok with them I guess...

And two other critters doing the same they are here just for fun I didn't even bothered to fix the tribal guy

He has all the 6 views although some work still is needed death animations needs to be made also the palette needs to be applied to the rendered frames. The reason for that is some colour loss on the left is the boy with applied palette on the right the girl.

I will concentrate now on the death animations after that I will apply the palette on all and start to convert to frms.
Anyway if someone wants to check them I uploaded this 3 mb zip archive that contains all the current frames in bmp format.

Cool stuff. I want to ask how you do this? Do you make a 3D model and make the images from that animation or redraw/draw each frame urself from other child frames?

After I finish my frm editor/viewer I'll try out the 3D modeling, what format do you guys use? That X format that was used at FOnline as well ?

First thanks for the feedback I'm glad that the kid looks ok

I use Blender, it is an open source software. The model I rendered and animated was originally meant to replace the children in Fonline 2238 sadly that got shelved. The Fonline 3d repository does have the hero male and female characters with all animations. Here is a link to the 3D development thread over at fodev.

You can share your 3D model Dude in vault suit?
I'm planning to release my work in a format that would be easy to use for anyone, however right now only the child has a format that is close to this.
Every model uses the same files for textures except the female models, they have a different topology so they need different textures.
There is 3 layer right now skin, hair and clothing although I think I should make it more later by separeting shoes, pants and shirts.
If things go the way I want it will be possible for anyone to mix out characters like this.

My plan is to include 3D modeling into my frame viewer/exporter/(editor), it would be very good if someone would supply some models and some info about settings, like angles for the 6 direction, lighting, etc, .. as 3D modeling is not that simple. I tried Blender, but I am nowhere with it yet.

(Does not have to be FOnline compliant 3D models, just some raw blender models I can work with.)

1) Strange, but once I save this pic to disk, nothing would open it, saying there's some error. It displays fine in the forum, though.
2) I'm nitpicking, but just in case you're interested in feedback, to me it looks like the guys' neck is a bit too short and arms are a bit too backwards.

That's pretty much your default male Fallout character sprite.

By the way, was Black Dude model ever finished (in a way that could make him a playable char)? IIRC it was metal armor only in vanilla.

Nope...not properly anyway. One version (the horrible version) used a Photoshop filter to change the colours of the light skin to dark skin, it sucked. It will be another epic quest to build the proper black critter, thats why it hasn't happened. >_>

Actually your comment helped a bit I haven't seen it at first but the scale of the critter is a bit off will correct that after I finish the children character. However the pose as Lexx said is pretty much the default from the game.

I pretty much gave up on him.... he has an almost finished metal set (originally he could use only a few weapons and couldn't run). If this 3d stuff ends up good I guess he will be a few renders away...
Anyway there is a combat armored black guy that I think is fully done.

I think your best go could be to use formats like .obj, .x
.x can have ASCII or binary the DXSDK has a tool that could convert them from one to the other.
.obj doesn't really support animation however I think could be good for sceneries that are static.
For models here is a zip with a cube and a sign (the later is only in obj format)
About camera check this link to wikipedia the trimetric one seems to be the perfect fit.

Anyway this is a bit off topic...

Back to the child here is a non finished cut by laser death, gotta add some details and a puddle of blood.

I thought I would be a bit faster with this anyway here are some more animations now the cut in half looks better, the 2 non violent death animations are done and there is a gunned down version too which I'm not really happy with. The blood is black since I didn't applied the palette sorry about that.

I'm not sure if I should try to recreate the electric, burned, turned to dust and flaming animations.

Looks pretty good already, though. I still have the dream that some day we can easily render new critters that look exactly or pretty much the same as the original graphics.

Well I think I just reached the end stage with this character. Not really happy with the end product to be honest...
Anyway here are the remaining 3 animations the last one needs a bit of blood added the blowing up a bit of tweaking,
but I think this is at the finishing stage.

I will release both the rendered frames and the blend files with the textures.
Since I want to make it in a way that anyone could use this to create new critters there will be
six blend files each with the corresponding view it will be a bit redundant but basicly all that one will need
is to press render animation to get the frames.
On a last note I think looking back I would have done the animations a bit different.
