Codsworth

Dr Fallout

Centurion
Call me crazy, call me insane but he's the only good character in the whole fucking game. He's interesting, funny and original (in my knowledge) and frankly is what Fallout 4 isn't, GOOD.

So yeah, if you like Codsworth say so here, but I would love to hear problems with him and issues. Oh and he's more likable then the dog.

The only "issue" I have is that I don't get xp from enemies he kills unless I've done a significant amount of damage to them, but then again it's not like I deserve any.

He basically carries the entire game for me as far as characterization and personality goes, and is the only reason why it's possible to play as a non-combat focused character because of how much ass he kicks in a fight. I like all the Mr. Handies (General Atomics Galleria has been the true highlight of the game so far), but he's obviously number one. He is infinitely more deserving of his own perk than that stupid dog, although it's not like he needs any more damage.

Might actually give Codsworth a go. Has anyone used Strong? Would be interested to know how they compare. Only just picked Strong up so am not sure how useful he actually is.

It'd take a lot for me to leave Codsworth, but I plan on having a go at all the companions eventually. Without spoiling too much, where can you find Strong? I've just about managed to bumble my way down to the city (holy crap it's enormous), but haven't found the entrance to Diamond City yet because of how massive the place is.

Sounds like you'll encounter the mission fairly soon. It's not part of the main quest but you'll stumble across it along the way.

Hm, I might give codsworth a try. I'm currently running with Cait, because she's a scottish (or irish? Voiced by a scottish lass, though) and a junkie. You literally make her like you by doing drugs and picking locks. Best character.
And no, I do not know how she got that accent when she was born in what's left of the US 200 years after a civilisation-ending war.

Codsworth doesn't like it when you drop stuff on the ground and leave it there (it messes with his cleaning sensors). That's actually a bit annoying, because I tend to do that from time to time to clear out any useless crap I have. He loves it when you mod guns or armor though ("What genius!"), so it's easy to get chummy with him. Also he occasionally gives you Purified Water, which makes it easy to craft chemistry stuff.

Oooh if Cait sounds anything like Annah in Planescape Torment then that's definitely my next choice.

She's basically the evil choice. Approves of fighting, being mean, criminal and naked, disapproves of being nice, helping the Railroad, the Minutemen or homeless people.
All in all a fun character. Jim Sterling probably hates her because she's not into polygamy.

/edit: According to the Wiki she's supposed to be irish. Which doesn't make any sense considering it's 200 years after the War, and it's America, but hey, she's a mean drug addicted pitfighter, so she had to be irish, of course. Rule of Cool.

Nick is my favorite companion- sure, he may be a bit of a white knight, but he's still quite well written, and interesting. I'm nearly done with his companion quest, and it's fairly interesting (albeit a standard go here kill this, and I've already predicted how it's going to end (Nick finds his counterparts body in the bunker)).

Plus, I've been trying to play in a sense that makes sense story wise- I just saw my husband killed and my baby kidnapped moments earlier. I'm not going to wander around or build a fucking tow, Im heading straight to Duamond City's! Except when I atumble upon them or I hit a brick wall, I don't do side quests. It doesn't really make sense to adopt so e random dog. But Nick? I have to meet with him anyway. On the main quest, and there's no moment at which it's clear that we should part ways. He's a private eye, so it would make sense to take him along with me. Originally I was planning on doing Institute ending, but Nick has convinced me to go with the Railroad.

Making my companions actually influence me? Making me actually care about them, and actually want to romance/ pursue quest lines with them? That's literally some of the best writing Bethesda's done since Morrowind. And by all accounts, this is true of most of the companions. They must've gotten help from Obsidian or someone, because I refuse to believe Emil could write characters this well.

Yeah, Nick is cool dude. His quest was mostly a boring fetch quest (with a very silly ending), but he's definitely one of the more interesting characters Bethesda ever wrote. He's also well voice-acted, and has some really good lines and comments. Especially when you get sarcastic with him, because he'll usually snark right back.

I lost it with Nick Valentine because I see no reason for Bethesda to write in a cliche 1930's - 1950's detective character and a bunch of cliche gangsters from the same era. All those gangsters in Vault 114 are talking like its 1930 and they're Al Capone. It has no place other than to be stupid.

To be fair, Nicky has a reason for why he is the way he is (personality based on a pre-war hardboiled cop, then basically reading old stories about Humphrey Bogart type detectives). The other 30's gangsters don't make much sense, though.

I'm still waiting for a few months down the line for when someone makes a mod that will allow you to upgrade Codsworth into a Mr. Gutsy. Keep his voice and whatnot as they are, just make it so it's possible to upgrade his casing and give him a plasma gun.

Except if there was some explanation - no clue if there is some - I am thinking about a group of people that behave like the Kings in Vegas, which was pretty excelent. You know a group that based their theme on Capone or the 1930s gangsters and all that. But not just a clone of it, you know, with their own twist to it. If it's explained well enough, why not? I would buy it. Could be even interesting if you give the player the chance to explore it, just as how vegas did it with the Kings. But yeah ... making them just another generic group with a 30s visual/style just to have "different" targets to shoot is kinda silly.

Well, some of the ghouls in it were Mafiosi pre-War (you can hear them explaining it and union scams to smoothskin gang members), and the reason they dress the way they do is because that vault was full of fancy clothes.

By the way, did anyone ever figure out how that Vault ended? It was a genuine social experiment, but the whole thing was very on rails, so I never really saw the ultimate results of the experiment.

The only truly funny moment I've had in Fallout 4 was finding the holotape of Vault 114 Overseer Interview #87. It's hilarious and while it doesn't say exactly what happened, you can get some idea of how things probably went down.

Soup Can Harry is the best written character in the whole game and he only has like 4 lines of dialogue. Goes to show how badly the other characters are written.

I have Piper (she's not that bad of a character as I originally thought) as my companion and she does grow on your, but yes, Codsworth along with Nick and Cait are probably the only good characters. It's pretty amazing how scattershot Bethesda's writing is at times though.

Im on an extended training trip for work, so I havn't had a chance to play yet, but Codsworth SOUNDS like an oustanding companion. I usually forgoe them in the post Beth fallouts like the plague, but it sounds like that these guys are the highlight of the games highlight. I was generally unimpressed with FO3 writing to say the least, FONV was so much better, but still a roller coaster of competent writing, followed by FO2, which was good, and FO1, which was absolutely amazing.

Huh. I always found the writing in FO1 to be a little on the dull side compared to FO2. Maybe because I played them in the reverse order.
