Wannamingo, love them, or hate them?

Residential Zealous Evolved Nano Organism
I hear the creators of fallout kinda regret adding what are basically parodies of the Xenomorph, but I personally quite like their design and backstory.

Its interesting that they managed to make a super-lethal blatantly alien looking organsim, which had a built in killswitch, resulting in a limited amount of generations of the critters.

I've fought a few thus far, and they're tough bastards! Easily capable of outperforming a deathclaw, if in numbers.

What about you guys? Love them? Or hate them?

I tolerate them. It's obviously a Xenomorph nod, seemingly out of place, but they are a weird enemy to fight and one of toughest as well.
Tunnelers are a lot more serious and perform the same role overall. They can stay where they are, IMO.
Otherwise we get Bethesda's Fallout 3 idea of Fallout being "It has Supermutants, Robots and Zomb-er, Ghouls. Oh, and Deathclaws sometimes"

Agreed, we shouldn't see them in another game, due to them dying out in the events of fallout 2.

I also agree that Tunnelers seem to have taken up the 'tough motherfucker enemy who attacks in droves' trope now.

I hope we see tunnelers in another fallout game, they're said to be highly expansionistic.

I had my ration of them for all my lifetime in DUST though :P And that's getting the "Befriend Tunnelers" mod that made them neutral after killing a chosen amount of them.

XD

I had a lot of 'fun' withe Project Nevada, bastards could basically two hit kill me.

Luckliy flare guns seem to work wonders.

Wanamingos rule! And man, I love that blood-splurting animation when you kill it with Gauss to the eye! It's a shame they removed them from F3 and didn't bother to restore in NV...

Obviously they are a xenomorph parody, but I don't have a problem with them really.

Sure they seem out of place, but my rationale is that they were probably designed as weapons for the Enclave.

They seem kind of unnecessary considering they kind of fulfill the same role as Deathclaws, from the role in game to the lore of badass motherfuckers associated with them by npc. Yet, they bring some critter variety in a game that throw you the same critters a bit too often (and even more with the RP)

Yeah, even though they don't quite fit into the lore, who cares, it's much more interesting this way, to have something to kill for xp apart from Deathclaws and annoying Floaters and Centaurs. A dream of a grinder - and yay, I LOVE that brain-splurting animation. IMO, Fallout 2 wouldn't be complete without them - well, maybe besause I got used to them too much:-)

Wasn't it outright stated in Fallout Bible that they were artificially created by the Governement?

I am ambivalent to them, but they always made my Vic glitch out start running away during combat even when he had full health and ammo. Very annoying.

I hate them and note even Bethesda didn't want to use them.
false. they were planned to be included in fallout 3.

I'd note that the wannamingos would have definitely been out of place in any other fallout game than fallout 2, but they just click in that one. and yes, I do really like their backstory though I've never managed to find it in game. is that something chris pulled out of his ass for the fallout bible?

They always hung out with FLoaters and Centaurs, just took them as one of those weird bio engineered weapons the pre war government created like the Death claws.

They fit better into the setting than Androids and Humanoid robots with emotions.

I don't mind them, I like their design and how no one knows what the fuck they are. I don't want to see them again though. They've died out, no need to have them anymore.

I'm glad they didn't use them. Aside from the usual lore-breaking issues just look at the proposed design for 'em:

"It is possible that the wannamingoes were old Enclave experiments (or even experiments from before the Great War), and if this is true, then it's likely their genetic/biological deadman’s switch was purposely engineered to keep them from breeding past a certain generation." -Fallout Bible 2.

He did suggest briefly in the first Fallout bible that Wannamingos were created by the pre-war government, but in the second fallout bible he seemed to backtrack a little bit.

My guess is that there is no official answer to the topic, so it's safe to assume the path that compliments canon lore the best. Since I don't think the pre-war world has the tech to create the in-universe equivalent of xenomorphs, I'd say Enclave Experiment is the best answer.

Pre war world created Deathclaws and the FEV, I fail to see how they couldn't have created small stumpy Xenomorph looking vermin.

Given that the pre-war world had only started testing FEV on humans, and it took a few years of research by The Master to finish off Supermutants, I think its safe to assume that FEV is relatively new technology.

Deathclaws, Flaoters and Supermutants bare huge similarities to the species they were originally, and for the most part look like beefed up Chameleons/Worms/Humans.

Wannamingos look entirely original, and look nothing remotely like whatever they were to begin with.

It doesn't sit right with me that they are able to make xenomorphs, yet at the same time, still perfecting FEV.

They have a whale face and their limbs are similar to some aquatic animals.

The EPA give an explanation for them but it is unnofficial content. There is also one or two characters in Redding thinking the beast was created by humans, but they don't have any proof.
