games/movies so bad that they killed their franchise?

My go to pick here is Dead Space 3.

it completely lost sight of the franchises appeal. and the signs were there from the get-go really. co-op, crafting, and post-release DLC for the real ending.

really all you gotta do is compare the taglines on the back of 1 and 3's cases.

like look here you autists that tagline is the exact reverse opposite of the feeling the original game was trying to convey. the main driving point of horror in almost every horror game is the feeling of isolation. dead space 3 has you traveling across the galaxy. zippity zoppity zoom. its not scary enough to be a horror game and its not actiony enough to be a good action game. like yeah we can shit on resident evil 6 all day but that game is so over the top retarded that its genuinely amusing. oh also sequel bait ending that leaves the franchise on a cliff hanger for the lolz. also i can't for the life of me remember any new monster design from this game. i can remember most from 1/2 because they were actually creative. oh also fucking pay to win crafting. as if crafting wasnt bad enough they had to make it even more disgusting. and it doesn't help that if they ever do release a dead space 4 itl be by new devs because EA has shut down visceral. so for the forseeable future it would seem that Dead space is well... Dead.

oh also becuase no one liked or bought DMC: Devil may cry the new DMC franchise was dead before it even started and now we're getting this:

the Reboot was debooted. god that feels great.

that didn't kill the franchise. altho genysis basicailly did. iirc james cameron said that after is 37 avatar sequels he wants to return to the terminator series and ignore everything after T2. old directors returning to their old franchise rarely works out so lets hope this turns out less alien: covenant and more mad max: fury road.

jak and daxter: the lost frontier was an attempt to continue the jak and daxter franchise after naughty decided they wanted to make movies, but it was so painfully mediocre that there hasn't been another jak game in almost 10 years.

honestly it really is rare for a sequel to be so bad it kill a franchise. there are series that are still going despite not having a good entry in literally over a decade.

This isn't aimed at you, but god I wish people would stop riding on Ridley Scot's god damn cock for the Alien movie. As an Alien fan this grinds my gears. It's so frustrating.

This fucking drunkyard was the director of ONE(!) Alien movie, and everyone is acting like this fucker invented the whole franchise. Ridley is a good Director, he's really good in visual story telling and directed some very entertaining movies - albeit his last few projects have been really shit. But he was NOT the one who came up with the Script for Alien, he was not the one behind the articistical direction, hell not even the creature design. The real masterminds behind the Alien franchise are Walter Hill and David Giler together with HR. Gigers work and it was actually Dan O'Bannon who got Giger on board as he knew Giger trough his work on the canceled Dune Project by Jodorowsky.

What people often say about Ridley, is actually true about James Cameron, Cameron wrote the script for Aliens and designed a lot of the set peaces by himself, like the Drop ship, the Alien queen - which Giger really liked and a lot more stuf. Cameron brought a lot more to the franchise in terms of development and content and yet, Ridley is often credited like the mastermind behind the franchise. But right now, this damn idiot is runing it.
