The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake/Remaster.

Never forget Daggerfall :ok: A beautiful, broken mess of a game.
NMA has always been right, we were just avant-garde with our Bethesda critique.

People that are now trash talking Skyrim and saying it's worse than Oblivion will instantly change their tune if Skyrim gets a similar remaster.

Bethesda fans are just bandwagonners, whatever is popular at the moment will gets its dick sucked and be compared favorably even to other games in the series that also had their dick sucked.

Nah, depends on how you do it. Remake of Resident Evil 1 looks miles better than the original, and not just in the polygons department. Much better atmosphere, better lighting, better sense of dread.
I still think people should appreciate media in it's original form rather than updating it to fit with modern stylistic sensibilities.

Like, sometimes looking at older graphics gives you appreciation for styles and techniques that have since been abandoned - So I think looking at things how they originally looked is better than wanting them to look modern.

Let's not pretend Oblivion had any artistic merit to begin with, it just looked like extremely generic, wannabe Lord of the Rings.

Morrowind on the other hand would actually lose something if it got a bad graphical overhaul.

I still would like to know what new features does this remake have, graphics aside.
I know that melee attacks are now a 4 piece combo so hit-hit-hit-BIGHIT
Other than that, just a fog everywhere.

[edit]

I find it very suspicious that it has remained at 82% from at least 9000 to now 20.000 reviews. No ups or downs, just consistent 82%...

its funny because pound for pound oblivion is the worst mainline elders scrolls game by far. skyrim is helped a lot by being basically a soft reboot.

Mfw watching gamers jerk off low quality games like they're the second coming knowing that standards will never reach a level above key jingling and pretty grafix

I assume Oblivion's scale was a big reason for why it looks the way it does.
oblivion is actually shockingly small scale. if it was ported directly into morrowind oblivions cyrodiil would only be slightly larger than the backwater island of vvardenfell.

I will actually agree with this. Skyrim at least embraced its shallowness, even if it sucks at the end of day. Oblivion on the other hand is far too shallow for someone that wants depth in their RPGs, but it doesn't have all the shit normies like that Skyrim has with the kill cams, dragon shouts and the other things.

I technically meant scale as in, all the dungeons, interiors, voiced NPCs with schedules, quests, weapons, all that stuff along with the map's size. The map in Oblivion is pretty small which is funny since Cyrodill is the largest province of Tamirel I think.

Also, despite all the negative talk, I don't have the heart to hate Oblivion, well, OG Oblivion anyway. Even with all its jank, I'd be lying if I said I didn't sink a ton of hours into it. Plus, watching/listening to PatricianTV's 12 hour breakdown of it also gave me a little bit more appreciation for the game too.

Scaling is a general problem in TeS games. The big settlements are also not supposed to be that small (goes for all TeS games).

The upside is it makes it easier to borrow TeS maps for use in other games, in case you want to wander the Nirn in non-TeS games too.

Yknow what, I'mma do the same thing I did to Darkest Dungeon, Battle Brothers and Caves Of Qud when asking whether or not people really enjoyed the game and keep my eye peeled on how many people enjoyed the game long enough to actually finish it.

If you love it so much, you'd finish it, right?
You wouldn't just rush to post a positive review only to drop the game and never pick it up again, right?

Oh for fucks sake, never mind. Scratch everything I just said. Apparently if you even open the console command it disables achievements and considering how fucking buggy and janky Oblivion is pretty much everyone is going to use console commands at some point. So the achievements are a useless barometer for telling what people have achieved and not.

You could get around that in Fnv by modding the game lmao.

He pretty much shitted on the game and his arguments are the ones me and many others have used against Oblivion for many years now.

I like og Oblivion fine. I don't like it as much as Morrowind, but I also don't mind the streamlining too much. I love Morrowind, but I don't really want to play another game like it.
Oblivion is still a lot better than Skyrim.

Yeah it's got tonnes of issues, but honestly, it's not a bad game.

lmao. we can say a million bad things about skyrim but at least its level scaling doesnt break the game in half and at least its not a direct sequel that ignores the plotline the previous game set up for it.

anyways frankly i think the thing we're all ignoring is that this is basically little more than a graphical overhaul mod. at least in function. it could be argued to be a little grey because while gamebyro is still the main engine they are using UE5 as the renderer. but either way IN FUNCTION its just a graphical overhaul mod. do you realise what that means? this is a paid mod. gaming, culturally, is to the point that rather than play a game people fondly remember they'd instead spend 50 dollars for a graphical update to a game that already has graphical overhaul mods. No new content or anything. very few if any substantial quality of life improvements. no story additions. this isnt a full on remake. this is a fucking MACROtransaction for a 20 year old game and people are eating it up. that's where we're at now. They finally got gamers to accept a paid mod with a smile on their face. FOR FIFTY DOLLARS! i am convinced that gamers will accept anything at this point. This shit gets worse and worse year after year standards drop a little more and then a little more. And it's all so normalized that if you point out how insane it is you're dismissed as some depressed gatekeeping schizo who just "hates fun".
