No. Badass hunting androids with a .223 pistol >>> love story between a guy and his animo waifu. Excellent movie, though. The best of last year.

I think the phenomenon is similar to Road Warrior vs Fury Road. Similar concept and story, only "redux" for later generations with much better visuals. Going back to the original ends up also meaning going back in time, to less scope, less effects, less visuals, despite the impact of the original at the time

Original Bladerunner is about a badass hunting androids as much as 2049 is a love story, which means not at all what the movie is about.
I like both but I think 2049 has a much better pace and plot.
