Oh damn, well that should most definitely rule out all instances of snow, shouldn't it. Snow has fallen contunously all day, and by now it's about 5 cm deep, which is pretty decent for a first-day-of-the-year. It's gonna wash away a couple of times, before it settles for the winter.
Not to get into a weird debate, but that's what is often meant by "climate change is not the same as weather", some places get more - some get less - of whatever they were used to. Relatives of mine in Spain say the peak of summer, to them, feels as if pushed, if only a few weeks, towards later in the year
However, in places with extreme climates allready, the differences are much more noticeable. Cyclone/hurricane/monsoon countries are often mentioned, but here in Scandinavia I recognize what my Spanish relatives describe, with the seasons being "pushed"
