THe Day After wasn't that great. A disaster flick, but nothing that special.

I saw Heavy Metal in the theatre when it came out. That was pretty cool.

In no order:

Aliens 2
Dawn of the Dead
28 Days Later
Predator
Alien
War of the worlds (the new one)
Mad Max
Terminator 1
Terminator 2
Star Wars original trilogy (the latest one was good, also)

Which Dawn of the Dead? I bet you like the new one don't you? The one with the running zombies. You bastard. :puke:

Evil Dead 1+2
Dawn of the Dead (yeh, the original)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Alien
Braindead (not so horrifying, i know)
The Thing
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Suspiria
Hellraiser
The Haunting

no order, they all have their own special characteristics

"The Thing" is a fantastic movie. I loved the special effects. :)

yes, effects and also atmosphere in the thing are outstanding. :)
creative and handmade stuff by fx-specialists. just great.

I like John Carpenter, but he has not made anything decent in a long, long time. "Ghosts of Mars"? :wtf:

No, not really. Apart from the stupid storyline I'm kinda amazed how there's still gangstas with bling-bling weapons in whatever time the movie was set.

The best part of Ghosts of Mars was its depiction of what would happen if women ruled the world.

Otherwise it seemed to be a rehash of Assault on Precinct 13 only with zombies.

carpenter's time of virtuosity is over since he made "the thing".
after that he put on more bad movies than good ones, and only good ones. strong passages in his recent movies are only found in quotations by his former movies, like welche said regarding "GoM" and "Assault on Precinct 13". no fresh ideas anymore.
but i'm looking forward to his episode for the new "masters of horror" series.

Oh, shut up. Assault was a decent movie. GoM on the other hand was just shite.

Especially the dumb gangsta element.

The People under the Stairs was friggin awesome. Assault on Precinct 13 was decent, but GoM sucked dick. I liked 3 minutes of that movie. Those three minutes were when the badguys got the shit blown out of them.

"the people unter the stairs" is just another variant of the blending sick atmosphere in "tcm". when i want to see a good variant i watch "house of 1000 corpses". or the original "tcm".

@ashmo
why shut up? that's just what i said. assault is very good, GoM the opposite.
but you can also say that assault quoted romero's "night of the living dead". though carpenter's version had a great claustrophobic atmosphere.

Heh. Misread your post.

Thought you meant that neither Assault nor GoM had fresh ideas.

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the darkness at Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die." - Roy, in the final scene of Blade Runner

I mean, really, can you beat that?

Here are my picks, but I can't bring myself to put them in order:

The Seven Samurai; In the Mood for Love; STALKER; The Shining; A Boy and His Dog; Blade Runner; Yojimbo; SWORD OF DOOM; High and Low; A Fistful of Dollars; Star Wars; Road Warrior; Young Frankenstein; Memento; Brazil; City of God; Badlands; Snake in Eagle's Shadow; Citizen Kane; Akira; Chinatown; Infernal Affairs; Drunken Master; La Jetee (and 12 Monkeys, which was inspired by La Jetee).

Chinatown, what a sterling example of a prime science fiction movie. And Yojimbo! Never has horror been accomplished more skillfully.

Did you notice the thread title, perchance?
