Any decent Wild West RPGs out there? Any reason why there hasn't been one?

There aren't many currently. Aside from Hard West, there's:

Six Gun Shootout a turn-based strategy, Wild West game made by SSI.

If you don't mind a relatively light-hearted take on the Wild West, there's Boot Hill Heroes , it's an Earthbound inspired JRPG with a "Spaghetti Western" setting.

However, there's also several Wild West era RPGs I"m aware of that are in development.

West of Loathing- From the developers of the KoL MMO, it will feature stick-figure cowboys and goofy humor.

Meriwether- an action-adventure RPG about Lewis & Clark's Expedition. (currently in beta)

Age of Grit- a steampunk Wild West RPG. Combat (turn-based) is between steam-powered air ships (pre-alpha battle demo available)

Frontier Open World / Sandbox Action-adventure RPG (Early Access on Steam)

I'd love for someone to make a really gritty Wild West CRPG. Hell, an Age of Decadence style Wild West RPG could be amazing; i.e., where your choice of class affects how the story plays out and what quests are available to you; Bounty Hunter, Deputy / lawman, etc. Lots of possibilities.

Perhaps Logic Artists (Expeditions: Conquistadors, Expeditions: Vikings) will eventually make a Wild West themed CRPG.

There's Call of Juarez, Gun, Red Dead and a few more. Which is really, really odd. I went looking for western mods for M&B and found a few, but all mods to M&B beyond Floris are uncomplete wrecks mostly.

A Western game would work really well for an FPS/RPG, I think. Gold and Silver rushes for historical backdrops, conflict with the Native Americans and a few outlaws from history, and then all that, exaggerated, in a hundred and thirty years of dime novels and western movies that could provide a lot of influence.
