Any stuff related to unofficial F2 patches goes in here!

Hey, Killap:

1) How about compressing your patch into a nice and tidy patch000.dat like Seraph did, so that it's be easy to (un)install? Whatever packer he used in his final version seemed to handle the compatibility problems.

2) Any chance you'd cook up a similar patch for Fallout 1? It's not like it doesn't have its share of broken quests and unreachable endings (Followers OTC and the quest with the boxer and his girlfriend who, due to a bug, sleeps 24/7, come to mind...) and since the game is so much smaller, I'd imagine it'd take less time/effort.

Oddest thing happened to me.

In Vault City, I had just exited the Vault, and quickly scrolled the screen to the left, so the screen was showing the house Stark is in.

In front of the door to this house, there was (very briefly) a floating text which said "30 seconds to reach mininum safe distance".

If this text is connected to anything within Vault 8, then it's understandable because I was really quick on the scrolling and it could be a remnant from something within the Vault, but if it wasn't...what the hell was it then?!?

It is in my list of things. I will probably put one up soon for testing.

Hmm.. yes and no. I know that TeamX is working on a project(s) to fix all the bugs in Fallout 1 as well as add in missing quests, etc. (they have already released some goodies to show it) To go off on my own and create a completely different patch wouldn't make much sense. If I do plan to work on Fallout 1, then I would probably apply to TeamX and see what needs to be done.

Something not being (or not appearing to be) "in that bad of shape", is a common statement in the United States. I think the description reads as it was intended, and does not need to be altered.

Who knows what Dravean is talking about. Everyone I know would say that "in that bad of shape" is wrong.
Ashmo said:
Maybe it's some kind of Michiganian sub-urban white trash upper middle class slang you just don't know about?
Kotario said:
Perhaps it is a local bastardization of langauge. In any case, Dravean would still be wrong, since he said that it is "a common statement in the United States."

Oh come on, people! Just Google it for crying out loud. ~19.9 thousand for "bad of shape", ~25.6 thousand for "bad a shape". I'm not going to sift through all those results to find out where everyone is from that says each variation, but I'd say it's equally prevalent in all English speaking areas. Quit bogging down killap with grammatical crap like this that can be Googled and shown that it's already fine :(

This door bug that's going on? That's important. Find more of those, so killap can be done and take a very-well-deserved break. I've got a serious case of blue balls going on waiting for this patch, been meaning to replay Fallout 2 for months now, and the sooner that killap says it's perfect, the better.

Bugs in Gecko:

- Talk to Wooz, ask for drink, choose Gulb? and the dialogue ends.

- After you give Cheesy Poofs to Brain, he starts to talk about Hydro Magneto Regulator, even if the power plant is already fixed.

Lots of people being incapable of proper English doesn't make it right.

Noted. Thanks again Skynet, I appreciate you mentioning these issues to me.

EDIT:
I just looked at the text file corresponding to Wooz and there does not appear to be any text to follow up with the "Gulp?" option. Did anyone notice this before when they originally played the game? Also, there does not appear to be any text to follow through with the following two other options: "I’d like a Gamma Gulp Beer. Is it supposed to glow like that?" and "This is a special occasion, of a sort. I’d like a bottle of your Roentgen Rum." Hmm... I am surprised I never noticed this when I origingally played the game.

Bug:

I fixed and optimized the powerplant. Then I got the Economic data from Gordon, but I don´t have the option to give it to Mclure in Vault City.

I think that this bug is related to the Brain somehow. If I don´t take the powerplant quests from him, the global vars are messed, when I talk to him first time after I have already fixed/optimized the plant (+ I don´t get ankh and economic data quest).

EDIT1: It would be a nice addition, if the economic data disk quest would show in pipboy´s quest list.

To Killap about his mod.
I just started a new game, for the first time, and I searched for patches. Finally decided on yours. So I downloaded your A part so I'd have 1.02 and yours.

It seems to work frine, except I checked the pipboy right after exiting the temple in the very beginning to see that I had the completed the widow rooney quest. I guess it has something to do with this fix.
(C&ped from Readme)

- Taking care of Widow Rooney and clearing out the mine now correctly appear in your PIPboy quest list.

Except I've never been to Redding, so... yeah.

Please read the readme that comes with the patch(I tell you to check this before you install the patch)...I assume your game already comes with 1.02 preinstalled hence why you should not use version A of my patch but rather version B. Please reinstall the game and verify that this is the case. I am 99.99% sure it will be.

Edit: Also, be sure to grab the map fix mentioned a few posts up.

Should grab the map fix, will check on the second part. That was fast. And I do skim through Readmes, I just must have missed that part. <_<

Really.

EDIT: Yep. Installed as V1.02. You were right. Just ran through the temple and it wasn't there, so you were dead on. As an aspiring programmer I'm curious to know why the only side-effect of having the patch installed twice is an addition to the pipboy, but I doubt you know and/or feel like explaining. <_<

And your spellcheck on the bottom of the post screen rocks, btw, even if it does recognize "hte" as a word.

Glad it worked.

You know, I have noted the cause of this problem but I have no idea why it acts this way. Having the patch installed should in fact overrule what is found in the main .dat files (and it does for all the maps, protos, etc) so this type of glitch should not occur. It is a mystery to me.

Ok, this gotta be the weirdest bug, that I have ever encountered:

I went to the Broken Hills, I spoke with the town greeter first time and asked "What´s new in here?". The dialog changed to Vic´s dialog, where he thanked me about bringing the radio parts. If you exit the dialog and then ask again "What´s new in here?", you´ll get the correct answer from town greeter. I loaded the savegame and asked "What´s new in here?", and this time, I got a Sulik´s dialog where he talks about grampybone.

Secondly, I found the missing people for Marcus, fixed the mine and revealed the conspiracy of Broken Hills. If I then talk to the town greeter and ask "What´s new in here?", the game crashes.

I have Sulik, Vic and Cassidy in my party.

wow, very odd indeed. I shall look into it.

On another note, I was finally able to fix the stuttering issue with the combat/regular leather jacket. It seems the original creators didn't really quite finish that frm.

You fixed the stuttering? Awesome!

Another typo found. When getting the experience for delivering Dr. Henry's papers to Merk in NCR, the message says "You gain 1000experience points...."

Yet another space bit the dust.

Also, have you fixed the bug with Doofus in NCR? The one where he would never start watching my car, regardless of how much money I give him or how many times I talk to him?

Noted on the typo you mentioned.

As for the Doofus bug, yes, that is fixed. Every single bug/typo/glitch that has been reported since my last release has either been fixed or in the list of things to be fixed. I got about 3 left in the to-do list.

Another bug: In Vault 15, after you have sealed the deal between the squatters and the NCR, the surface map will change.

Among the changes is that the outhouse (building to the top left, by the mountain) becomes a different looking building. Now, between this building and the mountain, I can walk into the mountain. I noticed this because a squatter was walking somewhere where he shouldn't be, and I followed him. I can get all the way into the top-left corner of the map this way, and all the way to the exit grid in the top-right corner, thereby entering the map with the vault elevator!!

Killap,

I haven't been registered, but have been following this post for long time, (read everything), so I was wondering. Do you think it's possible for you to post the current updates you made until tuesday? (I am leaving city, and won't have internet, but wanted to play Fallout with your updates, while away).
And another thing, what is the progress on slowing down the map?

Thanks.

Few more bugs with Wooz:

1. Even if Wooz doesn´t have any tragic cards, he still let´s you play if you have cards. Looking inside the script, you should get a random floaters from Wooz in this situation, for example:

"I'd play Tragic with you but it looks like I'm all out of decks."

2. Wooz Tragic Cards doesn´t restock.

Not a bug, but...

...in Broken Hills, in the Professor's House, there is a machine with this description:

"A large-scale THT entertainment tape player. No new movies have been made in 80 years."

I'm guessing this description text was originally written for the first Fallout game, where it would make far more sense. But since 80 years have passed since the first game, in which no new movies have been made in 80 years, wouldn't it make sense to change the text to reflect the passage of time?

A suggestion for a revised text:

"A large-scale THT entertainment tape player. Shame that no new movies have been made in over a century."
