Any suggestions? I'm yearning for a new(old) game

Hey Zegh! You played the original Resident Evil series? How about Anachronox? Planescape: Torment? Silent Hill? Catherine? Batman Arkham City? Earthbound? Chrono Trigger? Hentai Fuck Party 3? That last one is made up. Hehe. :)

Planescape was recommended earlyer in the thread, but for now it's further down on "the list".
I used to play Silent Hill with a turk friend, when it was new. Those door-opening-sequences gave us regular heart attacks...

The others, no. Tbh, I haven't plaid a huge lot of games. I tend to pick a few, and play them to death. Usually they have been (apart from Fallout) Civilization series, GTA series. I've played Morrowind to death and beyond, and I have a recurring habit of re-installing and re-ruining my Hearts of Iron 2, by fucking with the game files too much.

How about Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Wing Commander 3, Lone Survivor, Amnesia, Duke Nukem 3D, Warcraft 2 and 3, and Super Ghouls and Ghosts? I'm suggesting some of my personal favorites if you haven't noticed. I like to think I have fairly good taste in games, most of the time anyway.

As others have mentioned Sanitarium and Day of the Tentacle are top notch. Very good games. Full Throttle? One of the best in it's class. Whats that other one? Ahh yes. Beneath a Steel Sky. Need Scumm for that one. If you have never played Diablo, now would be a good time. Part one of course. I would like to echo what others have said, to emphasize how good certain games are, such as System Shock, 1 or 2 really, and the ones I have mentioned already. Medeviel 2: Total War is pretty damn fun too, especially with mods. I would very much recommend Crusader Kings if you like Civilization. Play these games dude. At least look at the wiki on them if not, to see what you may or may not like. I gave you a wide variety of genres there. Any RTS fan should play Warcraft at least once. Any adventure fan should play Day of the Tentacle. Any fan of video games should play Legend of Zelda. Sanitarium is one of those diamonds in the rough that you don't often hear about. Just. So. Damn. Awesome. Any more info required, ask.

I forget many games, I used to play the old warcraft games a lot. I loved creating my own maps, which were sortof pointless, but fun to play. Reminds me also of making maps for "Age of Empires" that were tailormade for meaningless massacres :D

I have often been curious of Legend of Zelda, but aren't those console exclusive? Same as with the Final Fantasy series, they look tempting, but I'm not buying a console for them.
There are several console games I really would love to play - one I long for is "Shadow of the Colossus", my god that game looks gorgeous...

I did enjoy Rome, Total War. Ambience, background music, it really is immersive. I love taking my time before a battle, let it drag out a bit, let my troops stand there and "take it all in", before I give the command :D

After enjoying the hell out of Grim Fandango, I was also highly recommended Full Throttle, but so far haven't tried it.

Sanitarium is recommended earlyer in this thread as well, I looked it up, and made a mental note. It looks really good. The horror factor seems promising, because it means there has been put some actual work and creativity into it, and that makes tons of difference.

Thanx for the tips!

Some console games are console exclusive, but some have legit PC releases. I know a lot of the older Final Fantasy games have been getting released for handheld devices (whether its just a quick port or a full on revamp/remake like War of the Lions release for Final Fantasy tactics I dunno).

If you enjoy SRPGs and don't mind a bit of animes, I do recommend the original Final Fantasy Tactics/FFT: War of the Lions. It's pretty fun, the story and setting is based on the War of the Roses, though it later deviates to a more standard JRPG thing (basically about killing the devil or something), its actually less about good and more about the devil being a dick and you trying to save your loved ones so you can go back to being a miserable outcast noble in medieval Europe. If you don't own a Sony Thing, you can get it on iOS devices for like eight bucks. Dunno if its out on android though.

The sort of problem with it is that while random encounters are scaled to your level, most of the story battles are not. So if you over level while exploring the job system (which is fun if taken seriously and waaaaaaay more fun to exploit) the story missions can become too easy. Which can happen unintentionally because the difficulty spikes seemingly at random.

But you should totally play it someway cause its rad. The old version is a hilarious mix of Engrish and actual English, and the WotL translation is much more flowery and Shakespearean but it gets a bit more animes at times, as it starts to tie into this whole Ivalice thing that Square is doing (which is dumb).

All of those games are good. Not playing them, is actually a crime in some countries. I am sending you a pm to discuss some ultra secret things about games that none here can witness..

How about the old Tex Murphy games?

I loved them shits. Only games I ever bought used off e-bay.

It's actually a requirement to give way too much of a fuck about Zelda around here.

What's your point? You dislike it? It's a fun game to play. Guess you dislike fun.

Sure some people do place it on a pedestal. I'm simply mentioning A Link to the Past. Many of the others aren't very fun. I quit playing Twilight Princess, kinda liked Windwaker, and haven't played Skyward Sword. Back on the SNES though, Link to the Past was a must have title. Not too many games surpassed that level of polish and fun, on that system anyway. Of course, that's just an opinion that many people share. Not all agree.

I could say that XCOM was an overrated piece of shit, and mean that, for example. Because, well, it was.

Link to the Past, I'm pretty sure, is what made me into a gamer. All the other kids in town played mortal combat and street fighter. I sucked a bag of dicks at those games.

Only other Zelda game I played to completion was Ocarina of Time. That game was huge in my high-school. All my skateboard friends, who I didn't even know had N64s, would come in to school just gushing about that title.

Original X-Com was not over rated. It was a huge hit when it came out. It just hasn't aged well.

Note, I said Xcom, not X-Com.

I enjoyed Zelda games, it's just that I've played like four of them (OoT, LttP, Link's Awakening, and Wind Waked) to completion and every other Zelda game is just more of the same. Fun, but It doesn't really have the replay ability to warrant playing again or the slightly different games when the next inevitable one comes out. I dunno how people can relentlessly suck the franchises cock before bashing Call Of Duty for the exact same thing. Ditto most other nostalgia/latch-key franchise they grew up playing.

But I'm just kinda sperging about how much I'm tired of that franchise.

On the other hand, I won't hear your blasphemy about XCOM. seriously best game to come out in ages, even if it needs a good tweaking and modding in places. Or perhaps just a bit more mod friendliness. I'd really like to be able to sell my lasguns to Somali Warlords in exchange for blood diamonds to build more lasguns or fund my research into alien guns, only to later have the Somali Warlord try to steal my shit requiring some liberal application of plasma and shit. The geoscape really needs to be made a bit more complex and a lot less "easy mode or get fucked."

I threw out my rose tinted glasses quite sometime ago, and very few games I own have their own pair.

XCOM was too shallow for my tastes. After beating it, there was no reason to play it again. Up until that point I loved it, after, not so much. Way too dumbed down for my liking.

I know what you mean but I enjoy purging filthy filthy xenos too much to not play it. That and I get the usual modding fun out of it. I spend more time tweaking than playing some days.
