Anyone ever feel Disconnected to other Gamers?

For me the gold standard of voiced protagonist in an RPG is Alpha Protocol, but I'm fairly certain Fallout 4 won't come within 100 miles of that. It's a modern, big budget Bethesda game designed for a very broad audience will be written like and play like a game designed for that.

On topic - I feel connected as feck, actively participating in various fan-made projects, communities, and so. I've never considered myself a "gamer" anyway. Those AAA games are much less appealing to me than some nerdy stuff like Dwarf Fortress, for instance, because it has excellent deep in terms of mechanics and incredible replay value. Instead of play-and-forget approach, I'm picking my games very carefully, sticking with each of it for very long time (several years) usualy, with only a few rare exceptions as FNV and such, played purely out of curiosity.

It's System Shock 2 for me. Duder has said just a single word in the course of time - when he was asked by antagonist to join, followed by his reply: „Nah!”, my enjoyment went sky rocket high.

I liked partially voiced dialogues in PS:T too, it was enough to add some spice and colour to the characters, without becoming repetitive annoyance. (I think this was more due to limited CD capacity than desing choice, but anyway.)

I am an aging niche gamer who mainstream AAA development is passing by more and more everyday. Luckily for me digital distribution, indie development and crowdfunding has taken off some and I'm able to play stuff like Pillars, Wasteland or Dragonfall that wouldn't have seen the light of day 10 years ago.
I agree, things seem better now than they have in a long time. Technical advances have allowed enthusiast developers to reach their audience, and allowed their audience to reach them. It's possible to circumvent the big predatory gorillas squatting on the top of the industry.

Imagine what might have happened if Bethesda's greasy fingers could have been kept off the Fallout license for two or three more years.

At this point i am cynical about everything, i like lots of the modern stuff but i hate numerous mechanics & ideas as well.
I find myself replaying older stuff all the time because i hate small parts of modern Games just a bit too much.

Like, i like the envoirement of the Witcher but i hate that it isnt as free as Skyrim & after play Dark Souls i hate every game
that das not have atlest semi dynamic Melee Combat. I wont play melee anymore if there is just Left-Click & Block.

Plenty of us are fans of New vegas, but the opinion on 3 is very much mixed 8altho more negative than positive).

I always want to feel excited for new games, but more often than not they always dissapoint, most games nowadays are streamlined for idiots and most of the focus goes into visuals and preorder bonuses. Is good that you are not part of a mass or the other, is always a godo thing to not get swayed by popular opinion.

For me personaly the issue is that only very few games really are true to the advertising and hype. And yeah it isnt a new thing of course, even in the past they would show screenshots and videos releasing informations about things that never made their way in to the game. But sometimes it really can be a lot. Like with Aliens Colonial Marines.

But that's how marketing works I guess.

What about that "totally actual gameplay" demo of Uncharte 1,4? That thing was so transparent I am baffled at how people can actually eat that it was live gameplay.

I liked the part where the game crashed.

I am not gonna even Buy 4 on discount as all the changes done to it disgust me to the very core. I am not supporting something that offends me. But I am not gonna try to make others do the same.
Which changes specifically? The one change I am very worried about are dialogue. Not that he's talking, I'm okay with a series trying to evolve beyond what its origins were. No. I am afraid you will lack dialogue options, dumbing it down.
I don't call any of Bethesda's work an evolution; it's certainly an interpretation. The lack of dialog options IS the concern, and is the de-evolution IMO; to a simplified interaction. I mean... in Fallout 2, the PC meets Lynette, and you will ~never get a conversation like that from Bethesda, or one with the kind of pitfalls, and hidden outcomes like it. Also, they refuse not to telegraph, and they refuse to have NPCs that are dishonest with the player.

One of the situations where modern technology actually is a hindrance. I mean I don't know where the problem is to have a few very well voiced characters. It worked for Baldurs Gate, Fallout and many other games. Now of course this isn't so ... thrilling in a game where you have to render every focking NPC. So every there is no room for imagination. And hence every creep needs his own "voiced" dialogues. But I still don't see why there can't be a selected few NPCs offering you a great conversation that is more than just this stupid wheel which also never feels like the character gave the anwsers I wanted.

This is me too. In fact, I've never given Bethesda/Zenimax any money. It's not the kind of company I care to support.

I'm very, very disconnected from people who are going to rush out and pre-order Fallout 4. That makes you part of the problem, IMO, but I'm not going to harp on it much.

I'm simply not desperate enough to have my boredom alleviated for a few hours that I'll accept the mediocre pap Bethesda markets as Fallout.
