Apple Urges Government to Outlaw iPhone Unlocking

Why do they mind unlocking them? (I mean this is to install software and stuff, right?)

Seriously, why do they care?
money.
1) they are partners with the providers like AT&T that can sell iPhones. if you jailbreak it, you can take any provider you want. thus less revenue.

2) their appstore generates a lot of money for Apple, even if they dont make the apps. they take a big share home. jailbroken phones don't require the apps to come from Apple's appstore.
.

I love how capitalism is its worst enemy.
Seriously it's like every big company in the world would love to see free, open and competetive markets disappear.

Bah, capitalism is such a contradiction. Long live anything ellse or inbetween. ]

Of course. Free, open, competitive markets are good for the consumer, not for big business. Big business makes the most money when they have as much of a monopoly on the market as possible.

I think Apple makes great products, myself, but I don't have an iPhone for a couple reasons. One, I hate the proprietary crap Apple is pulling and I'd rather not support it. Two, I refuse to be stuck with AT&T and its overpriced data+voice plan that you have to use with the iPhone.

I'm considering an iPod Touch, though. Same thing as an iPhone, just without the cell phone functionality (never been a big fan of integrating everything into my phone anyway... I want to have a separate device for my calls).

ibrick?

i thought that was just slang for an iphone, does an ibrick even work as a phone or anything?

so once you jailbreak an iphone, if you update any of the software it turns into an ibrick, and there isnt any way to fix it.

so they have to buy a new iphone!

mor moniez for applz!

YA I know, freemarket capitalism is a contradiction in itself cause it will inevetably lead to oligarchy or plutocracy :D

But anyway...I love your avatar! Haha fucking carebearland

apple can fuck off the only thing nice about the iphone is 3rd party capabilities like emulators and whatnot never got a iphone my self and I am fine with my black jack 1, a little old but works plenty well with the 3rd party stuff i have. on the other hand at least you don't have to update from what i know though either way it is just my 2 cents.

iBrick is the nickname given to Apple's iPhone after an update or hack reduces functionality. The name is also applied to phones that are unable to activate through normal methods.

but terms are sometimes mixed and used for functional iPhones as well (since they're likely to end up as iBricks or makeshift cherrybombs).

I have never owned a cellular telephone, nor an Apple product. I plan to keep it that way. I also can't stand how everything nowadays has a freakin' lower case "i" in front of it.

Besides, no matter what security systems you implement, some hacker will find a way around it.

I'd suggest buying the same basic product from someone else, it'll save you money, be a hell of a lot more user friendly, and won't require you to use the garbage that is iTunes. My brother and I got iPods as gifts a few years ago and they both died in ~18 months (HDD died) and Apple refused to repair them, claiming that our serial numbers don't even exist so they can go fuck themselves.

yes there are a lot of other products that do the same and cost much less.

I think everyone by now should know that with "I" stuff you just pay extra cash for the name. Nothing else.

Actually, I won't be buying it. My workplace has this system where you earn "points" for meeting performance goals and you can use said points to buy stuff. A 32GB iPod Touch is only two months away, long as I don't get screwed.
[...] be a hell of a lot more user friendly[...]
I've used the interfaces of other MP3-player devices and I actually prefer the iPod.

I use iTunes exclusively anyway. Never had any problem with it, and I just buy my music from there now that it's DRM-free.

I won't deny that Apple's products are overpriced, or that they're way too proprietary. I still think they make good stuff, though.

I have to ask: are you sure they were obtained through... legitimate channels?

Thanks. Although I'm still very much looking forward to D3's release. ;)

Yes. I suspect it's because it is a model that HP also has their name on (no clue what the deal was but HP and Apple sold some jointly for awhile) but the fact remains that it's a legitimate Apple iPod and they refuse to do service on it. Because of that I'll never buy another Apple product for the rest of my life.

Ya lol. I was in the market for a laptop earlier and checked out some Apple models. Basicly I guess the laptops are a bit more durable so I thought " ah paying a bit more for the same is good".

If only...
I mean I saw a 2 GHZ computer (like 2 months ago) costing 2k Euro basicly.

I asked the guy "this is duo, right?"

he's like "no..."

I'm like "lol".

Plus the fact that apples interface is nothing but a cheap remake of any windows interface that you can get for 5 dollars.
You know all those things that change your desktop, apples is just extremely basic. One would think that they could at least put some work into it before giving you the most basic one, but nooooo.

Meh I always supported Apple in the past and all but damn...I'll be support the monopoly of AMD/Pentium now.
It's better that way, having an actual choice was never the point in the western economy anyway.

Why would you need an overpriced iphone? What's wrong with having a simple cell phone that costs almost nothing?

you do realise that Pentium is a line of CPU models, not a brand, right?

it's called Intel, motherfucker.

and what the fuck does this have to do with AMD/Intel? Apple is using Intel hardware nowadays anyway?

That was an iPod+HP, which is technically an HP product. You should have gone to them for support, not Apple.

That said, I haven't liked Apple, their products, nor their practices for a long time. I do have fond memories of the LC II, though. Good ol' pizza box.

True, it's Intel "Pentium" ~ or perhaps they have these new processors nowdays. I've not been keeping track.
And no I didn't know Apple wasn't making their own computers.
Then there's not even that quality edge.

About the windows interface: It's the same shit that you can get on those windows-desktop manager tools that change the layout of the desktop. And the one Apple has is one of the cheapest sorts. With like the graphical tabs down and a few things in the upper right corner.

Anyway I guess apple is truly overprices crap.

Apple their own computers haha with c2d from Intel yep their own...

Well Apple fanboys are morons they just pay extra % for apple label...

I admit Mac OS X was great 2 years ago when you compared it against Windows Vista but now its better to buy PC + W7

The interesting thing is that you've got it completely backwards. It's actually Vista mods (and Vista itself, even) that have been emulating the now years-old Apple interface.
Also, Apple's interface is an integral part of the OS and is usually more efficient and smoother than Windows, also more stable.
But that's just Apple's niche: simple, user-friendly, instantly working out of the box, but you're stuck with a very rigid system that doesn't leave you many options.

Also, since the iPod their niche has included being the stylish/cool option, and they've been able to jack up prices in part because of that.

Gregor_y, please alter your posting style. Your spelling and grammar are horrendous, but that's not the real problem, the real problem is that every other sentence is either a troll or a ridiculization.

Fine but i aim more in direction of "ridiculization" :)

Hm this sounds like Windows :)

Any way even if M$ borowed fev interface ideas who cares? if we go this way Linux and Amiga OS borrowed and invented new things too so who cares...its Apple fault that they arent in place where M$ is now...

Erm what? try Windows 7 im preaty sure it runs same speed or even faster than Mac OS X on same rig...

Also one thing i noticed about Apple they are inmature...there is almost always a joke about M$ from Apple side...
