Are you still scared by horror movies/do you enjoy HM's?

I think what really makes a horror/scary movie good is the use of audiovisual elements to create a mood, an atmosphere of dread, something that keeps you in the edge of your seat. I really don't care for slasher films of relentless killers going after a group of annoying teenagers I cannot possibly relate to if I tried. I want to feel I care for the person in peril.
I find the fun in slasher films is found in waiting for the cardboard characters that populate film to get cut down in interesting ways. Caring for the characters is reserved for good horror movies, with slasher flicks you can just take solace in the fact that Jason stabbed some horny jock named Brady in the dick, nothing beyond that is needed.

I respectfully disagree. The first 20-35 minutes of hatchet was dedicated to backstory and building up the character's from total cardboard cutouts and I think the movie was all the better for it.

I agree to an extent with the Friday the 13th series, but both Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween have likeable main characters. Especially Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors which is a horribly underrated film.

And technically speaking, Alien, Jaws and Hellraiser are also slasher films.

Only really good nightmare on elm streets are 1, 3, and 7.

New Nightmare's so great. Everything but Freddy's makeup which looks like a halloween mask for some reason. But other than that, pretty flawless.

I should also throw some love out to Freddy vs Jason. That movie has no right to be as good as it is.

Yeah but Freddy v. Jason was way more of a Jason movie than anything... especially if you consider the ending to Jason goes to hell:

And thAt Freddy only kills one character and ultimately loses.

I don't really get scared anymore at this age, but David Lynch's movies have the ability to make me feel a bit uneasy at times through the building of tension.

Also oldschool horror like some of Argento's stuff and Cronenberg's old bodyhorror flicks are awesome.
