Behemoth’s Skulls and Fallout 3 wallpaper

Morbus

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
Here’s a brightened version with more visible details of this screenshot from Fallout 3, so we can take a clearer look at the Behemoth’s outfit (thanks Frank Online)...

In other news, the newest issues of Hype! magazine included this wallpaper on the bundled DVD. It is a higher resolution version of the promo pic we've seen used by magazines before.

Looks god awful. Could they have not just used Harry and Lou as reference instead of creating this tactics inspired abomination... Only redeeming quality is the fact he's wielding a fire hydrant, for some reason i like the idea of it being used as a weapon.

Skullz my dear friend... Skullz...

What this is to me is a critical hit to the groin.

Seriously, this particular screenie is everything that has been critiqued as wrong. Well not everything.

The Fat-Man, the supermutant that looks like he literally has a big pile of shit for a head. This FINO is making me wanna puke more and more. Seeing it clearer, made it all the worse. It was like they looked at the classic mutant, and did everything absolutely opposite to the original.

Big hulky steroid gorillas with slimy looking skin, is what I see before me. I imagine they talk rather similar to the Fo:POS mutants. That's not for me to judge however. They certainly look like a combo of the Tactics and POS mutants.

To make things short *Bethesda critically hits Fallout Fans in the groin for 999 hit points, and they weren't wearing a cup either.*

EDIT: It's head really does look like a pile of baby poop with teeth.

I actually kinda like what they did with the helmet of the power armor. It looks better than the original concept IMO. But the rest is horrible! Looks like it was assembled by scraps found in the wasteland. Last I checked the PA is a pre-war invention.
I'm rather intrigued on what they'll make of the Advanced PA...

Yeah, though PA isn't exactly what we've seen in FO (maybe it's another model) it's still way bette than supah-orc.
But hey, what did you guys expect? Has the lead artist played FO? No. Then it shouldn't be surprising.

2 design element nitpicks, from a Fallout fan who thinks that idiotic additions to an already working equation, should at least be plausible:

#1
Modern Fire Hydrants are designed to break off at ground level so cars don't get cut into pieces by a collision. Much like freeway gaurd rails. They break off after reducing the speed of the vehicle, whereas a solid pipe would destroy that car.

There wouldn't be a long stub of pipe sticking out of the bottom of it, unless he carefully unscrewed it from the pipe threads of the original connection and then stuck an equal sized and threaded piece of galvanized pipe into the coupling..

Considering the lack of dialogue ability in mutants, I doubt that they are all that "crafty".

#2
What's with the hacksaw-lookin thingy under the barrel of the *cough* laser rifle *cough*?
Just in case that laser beam can't cut through their armor, can you saw the enemy's leg off with this odd little doodad that would completely disable your ability to hold this weapon with 2 hands?

wth. I guess Bethesdas artists have never held a firearm before.

The sad part of this is that Fallout 3 is going to end up being worse of an FPS-RPG than Stalker was.

What the fuck is wrong with you? Comparing an awesome game like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to a console POS like Fallout 3... dumb shit

I was praising Stalker.. re-read the sentence. I am saying that Fallout 3 won't even live up to Stalker.

wow they managed to give the behemoth picture the beautiful qualities of a picture taken with a cellphone

well, it's another future, so nothing says that they have the same hydrants.

if you're going to nitpick, you should rather be offended by the use of a car door as a shield. a car door doesn't block anything. forget all the cop movies you've seen. a car door only hides you, but doesnt protect you at all.

test:
pistols
rifles
shotguns

it's a tube, not a hacksaw...
and NPCs do hold it with 2 hands when aiming iirc.

what in the name of buggery is that?

If i didnt know this was "fallout 3", i would have thought it is a new screenshot of Resident Evil 5

It looks like a cross between Nemesis and Tin Man from the Wizard of OZ

I kind of like the armor. A few details are a bit off, but since nothings perfect I kind of like it. I would love to see it from a birds view. I think it would be pretty nice from there.

The armor is decent, although it's still rather incongruous that the Brotherhood of Steel would allow their armor to get so raggedy. Visit the Brotherhood bunker in FO1 if you don't know why. Though perhaps it got that bad on their hasty 3000 mile overland hike from the west coast to be present for FO3.

The supermutant/disfigured orc, though, just looks awful. I wouldn't even compare it to an Uruk-hai, since at least they didn't look totally ridiculous. It looks like his head is partially melted into his torso, and it doesn't look cool. At all. Orange skin is not cool. Doesn't bear even a passing resemblance to FO1/2's supermutants. Car door as a shield is stupid, for reasons SuAside already pointed out. Fire hydrant works as an improved melee weapon I suppose.

It looks like they tried to make Fallout armour more next-gen :| .

Um.. Hasn't this been done before? Amazing similarities.
