Bethesda E3 Showcase Tonight, Stream Links

Much like Fallout 3, Fallout 4 looks like something I guess I can appreciate as long as I mentally dissociate it from the Fallout series.

Uh, am I the only one thinks the whole house/community/defense building system is a bit over-complex?
Guess I'm getting old. :\

Being as you can't expect much from story I'm actually kind of looking forward to it. Has a kind of old school xcom feel to it.

What I disliked:

- lack of originality regarding enemies / factions

What factions are you talking about? and do you really want a fo game without deathclaws?

Here is the video of the Gameplay Demo

I just rewatched it, skills have been scrapped entirely, SPECIAL will determine everything you can even put more then 10 points on everythign and you start off with 18 on the creation menu. Well, SHIT.

Maybe they just skipped skill allocation in the demo? I'm being hopeful here.

...Also, where is that guy from the announcement thread that claimed to have insider information and said the game would run idTech 5?

Finally seen the demo. Or... most of it? I didn't see things that people are talking about here, like crafting, town building, BoS, jetpack power armor, etc.

The dialogue really doesn't bother me, and short of being spoken after selecting a choice, this really isn't much like Mass Effect. More like LA Noire, from what I seen. Though I only played bits of LA Noire.

I actually like the cinematic dialogue though. Maybe that's just my taste, but I felt like the cinematic dialogue was fitting.

Voice protagonist, doesn't REALLY bother me that much, but I can see the distaste. I do hope they shut up sometimes and not comment on every little thing.

I am hating the idea of skills not being there, though. Like, really.

Rest of the Demo

Also look at how the Stats are described, they are talking about the effects in general terms, "it affects accuracy in VATS, strength of all melee attacks, etc. Nothing there calls specific Skills. I am calling it, no Skill System.

Oh, how I fucking hope you are wrong.

Charisma: Affects your chances at charming others and prices when buying things.

I am just fucking sure, the skill system has been dropped in favor of generic boosts with SPECIAL.

Todd says in the presentation that it is a modified version of the Creation Engine. Like it was (rightly) speculated already since the announcement trailer.

I think Walp's right. Not a mention of skills, or even skill points anywhere.

Oh what have they done? But the better question, of course, is why?

No skills, my god are they friggin kidding me, Todd Howard "dur hur I'mma fan of Fallout" bullshit, he ain't no fallout fan, I'm more of a Fallout fan than him and I played FO 1 and 2 when I was 10 and didn't know how stuff worked.

If you're right, this the exact opposite of how they simplified the character creation of Skyrim. I expected them to keep skills and remove SPECIAL.

Unless something proves me wrong I am not even thinking of buying it at a discount. I'll watch a playthrough of it, with how much they have streamlined I am sure it won't be any different from playing it.

Also Critical is no longer a dice roll it seems, there is a "Execute Critical" option in Vats and Luck says it affects how fast that bar fills, so YAY even more streamlining, amazing....

Just thought of something, what if it has that weird press up for skills thing, or maybe that poster in the garage let's you set your skills. I know I'm grasping at straws but I'm desperate!

Sooo... so far my biggest gripes with this are.

Brotherhood is back... again.
Super Mutants exist when they really shouldn't.
No skills. (possibly, but looking REALLY likely)

Well. Fuck.

If you look at the weapons crafting portion of the demo, you'll notice that some of those have requirements for Science and Gun Nut. I think they're still here, but just as perks instead of skills.

Yeah, it's pretty bad, but I'm convinced that's the case. With this, and the dialogue wheel, I'm thinking of not even renting/borrowing the game.
