Bethesda has the best fan interaction *ever*

I don't recall Odin quoting any of Hayt's posts, though.

I suppose though, that since Kahrn is one of his admins that he'd be guilty by association.

That was the last comment I read before I got the boot.

Anyone associated with NMA was going to get banned, be they posters, admins or mods.

Odin was banned for his Hayt quotes on NMA's front page. This goes against Hayt's own wishes:
"Disclaimer: the opinions expressed in my posts are my own, and are in no way associated with those of my employer. Also, stop friggin' quoting me outside the forums, dickheads.

When I have to face the charges/penalty I should have done it, but I didn't.. Neither did I see these "wishes" Hayt had, which I explained on the forum.

What's funny about this whole ordeal is that this is their own fault, had they set the forum to private instead of public then this wouldn't have happen would it?

There's nothing in their rules about banning for that reason, I didn't even receive a warning or email about it either. This only shows to prove how professional/serious these guys are, you guys are pathetic..

Oh definitely, I was looking forward to my time in the maiden.

er... Iron maiden that is.

Fortunately, I look at this as pretty humorous, as you seem to have had a forum of free-thinkers, who are open to commentary, yet they go ban crazy and nail every single person associated with a web site, plus taking their 'Games' forum private.

What ever floats their bunnies.

If he wasn't representing Bethesda, why the fuck did they ban Odin? For leaking insider information? Oh please, Hayt says it himself that his opinions are not official Bethesda statements.

Because his disclaimer says not to quote him off the forum. The news article, in fact, quotes him off the forum.

Maybe you should have checked? Being lazy and believing that a developer would freely post on a non-company forum that is public would want to be quoted off said forum is pretty...well...dumb. And that's why you got banned.

edit: Actually, guys I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. This thread is hilarious. Continue on!

Yeah, sure is!

It's Hayt who fucked up, you know. He's leaking what he apparently thinks is a sensitive information, THEN tells everyone not to tell, so admins have to ban people who were deeply offended by Hayt's arrogant tone and said "fuck you" to his buddy system.

What is he, 16 years old? This is real world here. If you're afraid someone might misinterpret your quotes and you post it anyway, someone should seriously put you in a position where you can't fuck up the company/project image.

Oh it is his own fault, but that doesn't mean Odin shouldn't get banned. Also, I do not agree with Pope_Viper's ban, but I guess I'll defend it a bit anyway. It was incredibly stupid to come out (first post + registered today) and say you are from NMA after admin stated "anyone involved in stirring up the shit, whether admin or regular poster, but definitely any admins" will get banned.

It wasn't sensitive information, but NMA making it headline news as if HayT was stating some company policy means he'll rather not say anything for a while so he can not be misinterpreted or quoted out of context. Whether it was "HayT's fault" or not is completely irrelevant to any related bans.

Well in that case you just didn't care about your account and joined only to stir trouble. So the admin sees it anyway (reg date + all posts in fallout related threads). Like I said before, I think banning you was unnecessary.

Allow me to comment.

1) I hardly consider posting about the game as "stirring up shit."
2) I figured since you wonderful individuals were monitoring NMA, you'd see my sig plastered across the forum. Why not cut the bullshit and get it out in the open? Hardly stupid, it was a deliberate move to see to what level of fairness would be exhibited.

I was banned within minutes.

Question answered.

Since when has the Something Awful forums been anything more than constantly stirred, luke warm shit? Just about everything on there is badmouthing something out of one side of their face and cockgobbling a developer who happens to post there out of the other.

HayT's the one that screwed up here, and he probably got in trouble for it when he went in to work. Like I said in this thread at the beginning, if he doesn't want people associating him with his work then he should have kept his trap shut about his work.

What...the fuck...

Bethesda has the best fan interaction *ever* by Kharn - at 11:04

*KHARN*

That's *me*. Not Odin.

Also, I find it extremely amusing that what often refers to itself as "the most intelligent and wittiest forum of all places" has admins that scrape around picking up a dev's messes, not to mention having to resort to *banning people by association*

A lot of people that post here have hardly commented on the situation, or care much to start shit on SA, yet they've promised to ban anyone that's associated with NMA?

Talk about lamest forum ever.

But I guess, since you have to pay for it, it has to be great, huh?

That's the best point here

If a Senator goes to visit a hooker, and he says "Hi, I'm John Doe, I'm a farmer" and screws her brain out, no problem. If he goes to a hooker, says "Hi, I'm John Kerry" (just a random example, heh) and screws her brain out, he can be pretty sure he'll be fucked over.

If Hayt was obsessed with not being quoted as a dev outside of SA, why did he reveal he was a dev in the first place? We can only speculate, heehehe

Odin is an admin and is thus responsible for any content on the frontpage. This combined with his posts in the related thread lead to the ban.

I did not pay for my account (I registered before the fee was introduced), but it certainly would be worth the money. Anyway, I did not come here to defend the forums, but to state why Odin was banned. You are awfully hostile by the way.

I know. Excuse us, we've been a bit high-strung and on our toes lately, because we have had a bit of an influx of people registering just to troll or flame. A mass of new people tends to disbalance things on a not-too-huge forum like this one, and that leads to trouble.

Something Awful's treatment, not necessarily of Odin but at least of other people, puts us in a bad mood towards it, tho', especially since SA always hated us. Which, well, really isn't that relevant, but a la...

It's very apropos, too, that a forum that prides itself on being on the edge don't simply tell someone who whines about being quoted after posting on a public forum to stuff it, but rather ban the quoting person outright. That sounds a lot like ass-kissing to me, but meh, 'suppose the internet is full of that.

And yes, sorry, I really do think Something Awful is pretty goddamn lame. 'course I've never been a poster there, just a bit of an occasional observer

Well, the mods at the SA forum are Very... moody, they tend to ban people for just about no reason... so no big deal, i guess thats kind of an honor badge, that forum is full of attention whoring 15 year olds any way....

Yea, interesting how they stick ya with a $10 fee, then ban you the next day, for no violation of their "policies".

Class act.

They're a bunch of a fucking retards, how can Hayt expect no information about games posted on the forums not to be leaked to the outside? There is probably thousands of faggets that read that forum, and to expect each one to look at Hayts profile to see "LOL DONT SPILL DA BEANS" and not say something is SOMETHING AWEFUL.

Public forum=public information

What, people are supposed to assuume that someone posting on a public forum doesn't want to be quoted?
Heck, that is the most ridiculous thing I heard today. And what's more, there is no reason whatsoever to grant that request. If it was a PM, that would be different, but hey, you talk in public, it's public!

Besides, it wasn't "a headline like HayT was stating company policy" as Fallacy said but exposing a person that ought to be more mature throw a fit. In public.

Bad defense, it doesn't justify the action in no way.

If HayT really didn't want any information to get leaked he should've put that disclaimer in his sig. I sure as Hell don't check anybody's profile. The only time I do is if I'm on a message board with a journal system.

If HayT didn't want information to be 'leaked,' he should not have said anything. His disclaimer doesn't mean anything, since what he says is public anyway. He does not make a deal with everyone who reads HayT post that they will not quote him, he just says "Don't quote me." when he is insulting an entire fan-base.

The whole argument that no-one can quote him because that's what he wants (even when degrading people) doesn't hold water. We all know that, and Something Awful banning No Mutants Allowed members is petty. Of course, no doubt they are patting themselves on the back for their actions back at Something Awful, protecting HayT's 'private' insults.
