Coincidences abound. After the recent fallout around community blacklisting, Bethesda has a new job opening since the 8th of February:
Community Manager -- Rockville, Maryland

Responsibilities:

*Actively manages all aspects of fan communities for all key titles, including The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Rogue Warrior, Star Trek, etc.

*Supports PR initiatives for all projects

*Administers and participates on official and fan forums related to all products

*Monitors and participates on external forums and sites and provides regular updates on fan interest, feedback, competitive information, etc.

(...)

*Fosters and maintains development of fan sites related to all products.

*Creates special programs and initiatives to drive traffic to official forums
Funny, I wonder why they think it's so important to drive traffic to the official forums.

no problem - I'm willing to share some GB traffic with Beth. :D

and Beth's CMs are on the way to hijack some users from fan sites
to get a user base which is under control of their censorship. nice.

Are Fallout and STG the reasons? I think so.

I don't think I fully comprehend this. Is this just some initiative to start getting more people ready for Bethesda F3 forums? Or is this some honest attempt to get us informed on the game, even the "black-listed" sites?

Can someone help explain what they think?

If only the guy that get this position were a real fallout fan like us, can you imagine.
It wouldn't last long tho

Cue the damage control team.. Oh wait, the poor sucker that inherits this job will have to do it. Sucks to be them

Edit: They also have a job opening for a QA director...interesting, albeit a little late

If this means we get someone at Bethesda to talk to, we better make sure we do not 'shoot the messenger' first and ask questions later.
If someone from Bethesda should approach NMA or DAC about Fallout 3, we would do best in keeping the person sound and alive.

At least until we capture their true motives and intentions.

On second thought. Of course we know why.
But we should at least let them attempt to redeem themselves if that is in fact what they intend to do.

Uhm, so far, no Bethesda representative posting here got negative replies to hist post.

So...what?

That is not what I am saying. But I have seen serious posters getting worked up over something and end up writing not completely sound replys during arguments before.

We have already been deemed as notoriously angry by 'the public'.
We do not need to add idiotic quarrelsome as well due to a few foolish comments.

I would think the moderators on NMA might get even more work.

Just out of curiosity. Has there been much traffic here before from Bethesda's representatives?

No, but to be honest there's a web of reasons for that outside of NMA being "mean".

Let me put it this way; don't worry about the problem of Bethesda people posting here. I doubt it'll be a relevant question anytime soon.

and before you say it, no, that has little to do with how mean NMA is perceived to be, and we're not going to censor opinions just because Bethesda would like us to

I am terribly sorry if it seemed like I am in favour of the activities of Bethesda's 'thought police'. Hell no!

I am happy about STG's reluctance to give in to Bethesda.
And I am proud of NMA, knowing they/you/we will never give in as well.

I am also not too worried either whether or not we will have any representatives to flame at all.

Added:

This is not meant as to make fun of it, but how can one be certain of what the reaction will be if no (or at least very few) representatives have ever posted here before?

My point being: We can not afford to forfeit negotiations because some snappish fool said 'Sod off!' at 'Hello!'

Is it just me, or does the wording there and elsewhere imply that their idea of a 'Community Manager' is intended to manage all aspects of fan communities in and outside of Bethesda's own domains?

"Bethesda Softworks; working hard to bring stupefyingly impossible facism to YOU!"

It also seems that CM is a brand new position within their company, or if it's not, I certainly can't find mention of any former Bethsoft CMs.

Oh, I just cannot wait for the mushroom cloud.

We'll have a new face to talk to at all times, that's good, and someone to monitor and report everything we say, which could be bad, in case the said person organises a team for it and they try to use it in all the wrong ways. If not he or she will be swamped with just one community, let alone four or more.

*Creates special programs and initiatives to drive traffic to official forums

Most of them do this, Interplay had a team with the contests, polls and first hand news, and we and our traffic survived, not too worried with this.

As far as I'm concerned, they are already here. I posted about a person named "yevinorion" on the "Shacknews interview on Fallout 3 with Pete Hines" topic.

:P

Don't know if it's just me being conspiratorial, but I read this part:
*Creates special programs and initiatives to drive traffic to official forums

as,let's go out there and get all the newer members of other forums to come to us instead.(potential damage management,so their minds won't get "polluted" by any ideas spread at NMA/DAC or any other place that may not be open to our new ideas about the game(s)...)

But,it may just be me reading too much into the words/formulation used...

I'd love to see the new community manager appear in STG's boards...

Give us a wink when he's coming.
I'm looking forward for the show.

I mentioned STG (without link) in Beth's ES forum - and :
