Bethesda open to Fallout 3 film idea

it was probably just a rumour, but I remember reading Uwe Boll wanting to do a Fallout movie a couple of years back.

nah man, I don't think it'd be worth watching either way. I've yet to see one single film built on a franchise I like that didn't disappoint me. whoever would end up making a Fallout movie would turn it into your regular Hollywood pile of crap.

actually, if Uwe Boll decides to make it at least it will be worth watching for the hilarity alone.

If it was a FOPOS movie, he might even be faithful to that source material for a change. ;)

Fuck them. As soon as they buy the licence they have a Fallout FPS, a Fallout MMORPG and maybe even a Fallout movie planned. How unsurprising. Could we just have a real Fallout 3 instead ?

Not many people know this, but apparently if you shoot Uwe Boll in the right place, he explodes producing a small mushroom cloud...

what frustrated me badly about Silent Hill (the movie) was that I liked the story, loved the art/effects, loved the MAIN actors (except for that horrible little girl!)

You know, I think that girl did a pretty fine job in Terry Gilliam's "Tideland". And what a beautiful movie that is too..
Although I didn't like her in SH.
I guess working with child actors is kinda tricky.

Actually, it's Interplay itself that has plans to make the MMORPG. IIRC, it was specifically stated in the Fallout license sale contract to Bethesda that Bethesda has the rights only to make a Fallout 3, 4 and 5, and that Interplay retains all other rights.

I doubt there'll be a movie. it's just some random stuff they talked about.

as for the Fallout MMORPG, I suggest you pay more attention - Interplay are making it, with parts of the old Fallout team. while I do believe Bethesda has the final say in what goes in the game when it comes to setting and lore, I doubt they will have anything to do with gameplay.

No, they will. At least, if they're interesting. The contract stipulates Bethesda has the right to interfere wherever they want. Normally this is limited to lore and setting, but Bethesda also has the right to "quality control" the game, to make sure it doesn't hurt franchise value. Stretched (and the contract as we know it is vague enough that many of its points could be points of contention, which could be part of the reason FOOL has not been announced yet) this means Bethesda makes the final call on everything and anything.

Quoted in the hopes that the more it's said, the more likely someone is to try it.

Movies of other medium tend to disapoint me. Movies as a medium are usually cases of 'storytelling through big action sequences and special effects'- especially in any form of sci-fi genre (including post acopylyptic with energy weapons).

In many ways I think Fallout may well suit a series better than a movie. Series have much more screen time (For something like Fallout it would probably be about 13 hours a season) and due to having a lower budget tend to focus on things like character development and decent dialogue much more than movies tend to, and the increased length does help to better create varied and clever character development.

I'm aware of that, thank you. I wish they would just be a bit more protective of the licence instead of starting licencing it back to whoever like crazy. I mean how can they seriously criticize Fallout 2 for taking too much liberty with the licence when they don't see the problem with their own game and with a Fallout movie ? As regards FOOL, I'm glad some of the original creators have the opportunity to work on a Fallout title again but until they come with concrete design informations, it's still a dumb idea.

Perhaps using writers of Firefly series for a Fallout one. Sounds like a match made in heaven to me.

No fallout film please.

Ok, we'll try. Won't we?

I myself wouldn't mind a Fallout movie, if a serious filmmaker would want to do it, which never happens in video game adaptations. For example, I always thought that only David Lynch could make a really good Silent Hill movie, keeping it as scary as games are, but I also find it unbelievable that someone like Lynch would want to do a video game adaptation.

Am I the only one who thinks that a movie set in the Fallout universe actually could work if done properly?

:| had just seen this news elsewhere, I'm looking for the long line of people queuing up to head butt an appropriately rusty nail jutting from a wall. :wall:
I'm already cringing at the thought of what a FO3 movie would entail, the game has had a less than positive impact on me.

No you are not, as I've written something similar just before your post.
Someone mentioned idea about HBO miniseries.. I think that could also work, and not only as just a miniseries. But it would really need a ballsy creator, who would also happen to have a great imagination as well as sense of humour. When I think about HBO, I think someone like David Milch would have my blessings to do this. He is a fucking dialogue genius too, them who saw "Deadwood" or "John From Cincinnati" (on this one a person must a have a very open mind, also some drug experience wouldn't hurt) might just agree with me. But, as I've said before, people like that are unlikely to do game adaptations.
