Bethesda responds to NMA's preview

I would like the know the total debt that was attained for this little covert mission, so that I can approximate how much of a donation would not be considered horrendously cheap.
not up to me to reveal that, but finding a place to stay during a huge convention like that means some rather nutty hotel expenses (all cheaper places, like hostels etc were booked full 6 months in advance) and the german railroads are insanely expensive as well (to belgian standards).

I was seriously impressed with Kharn + Suaside's mission, and I loved the preview. Was about time we got an honest to bones look at Fallout 3.
donating anything is better than donating nothing. ;)

as for 4,000$? haha, it never wouldve been close to happening if it had to cost that much...

with the few donation we still had in the donation box and those we received now, we have covered about 2/3rds of the expenses. and i'm fine with that (i just finished my Master's year, so i'll be making some money pretty soon), but it appears to have made a dent in ol' BN's budget.

I know exactly how you feel. These sorts of trips are an incredible drain on independent site finances. I'm glad you guys got to go out there and see the game for yourself though. It is always hard to really convey a demo like that in just words alone.

Suddenly, my respect for BN and SuAside just grew by a large factor. Kudus and much praise to these 2.

It is interesting that Beth said that fan site were not allowed, considering the fact that some smaller sites were invited to E3.

Probably this further prove the fact that Fallout 3 is not for fans, but for Beth's fans.

Guys, you better watch out for those Protectrons Bethesda will be setting up for their next public convention involving Fallout 3.

EMP, Electro-Motive Pulse generators?

... According to the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA), SAR or specific absorption rate is "a way of measuring the quantity of radiofrequency (RF) energy that is absorbed by the body." For a phone to pass FCC certification, that phone's maximum SAR level must be less than 1.6W/kg (watts per kilogram). In Europe, the level is capped at 2W/kg. The SAR level listed in our chart represents the maximum SAR level with the phone next to the ear, a level obtained through required FCC tests. ...

Intentions And Extensions

Aspiring journalists, road to truth,
present credentials at trade fair booth.

If B-soft booth babes throw a fit,
'cause B-soft guest list contradicts,
and B-soft Protectrons interdict,

Not to worry, hide or run,
set your cell phone on to 'stun'.

Babes akimbo are higher goal,
as web reporter or NMA mole.

Karma beckons, fair romance,
phone now prosthesis in the pants.

Proud display distracts the look,
at B-soft's prostrated press guest book.

Karmic comic, untimely ring,
happy cod piece starts to sing.

DNA jinxed by genetic boil?
Not when family jewels in tin foil.

Intend adventure at trade fair,
as bold commando, be prepared.

i fear i must let you down, dear 4too, the LunchPR chicks (doing PR for Bethesda) were hardly 'babes'. though i'm sure you'll tell me to take one for the team and 'infiltrate' anyway? ;)

I'll keep the total costs under my hat, but reveal that we have roughly 120-150 EUR to go to cover the costs for both me and SuA. A pittance, as most of it has already been covered, especially by the generosity of Odin, welsh and Killzig.

If 15 of you dudes donate 10 EUR (15 USD, sorry yanks), we're in the clear.

So, now Brother None you may say : "my name is None, Brother None" :)

btw. great Fallout 3 preview !!

Wow, and now my respect for Brother None drops quite a bit:

"Brother None: Nope. The temptation would've been great, but I was literally sitting right next to Pete Hines, I think he would've noticed.

I kind of cheated and copied a number of quotes from the first event and the recordings taken at E3, because Bethesda failed to set a no-audio rule for E3, which means guys like GamerNode and GamingTrend had recordings. Handy for having the whole intro, or full statements from Weld and the sheriff. "

Excuse me? I was sitting with Todd on my right and the lead from Infinity Ward on my left typing furiously on my PDA / Bluetooth keyboard. As you said "I think he (they) would have noticed" There was a no audio rule in place. Before the event I asked Pete directly and he said no audio either, so the answer was no. It was the same with Oblivion a few years prior - just type faster and try not to miss anything. I don't appreciate you trying to impugn my professional integrity or that of my site.

he wasnt there (at E3), so he cant know for sure... however a lot of people seem to have made recordings (or was that the other event?), which led a lot of people to believe recording was allowed (though 'illegal' to release to the public). hell, there is a picture of a guy recording it with the webcam of his laptop by turning his laptop around to face the screen?

he'll rectify himself i guess now you've stepped forward that Gametrend didn't do it, but quite a lot of your colleagues did (and probably got you mixed up with them). it was a simple honnest mistake, i think.

Hello Ron Burke,

I believe that Brother None was in error then, and tht he won't mind me apologizing for the mixup on his behalf; None of us (pun not intented) were at E3, so he didn't see who did it by "turning his laptop around to face the screen" and who didn't. Certainly we did not mean to offend you, even if some other sites recorded.

Regards,
Silencer

My bad, Ron, kind of jumped to an assumption there. My apologies.

I don't know which event Brendon of Gamernode went to, but I know for a fact that he was audio recording, because he told me he could do audio recording "because of a loophole" in the rules. I might've mistaken the press event for E3 there, but either way, at one of the events (probably the press event), Bethesda forgot to set a no audio rule, and sharp reporters could notice thaqt and record. It's not impugning anyone's professional integrity, because the sites that recorder there (i.e. Gamernode) did so with knowledge and (begrudging) permission of Bethesda, so it's all on the up-and-up. But if you weren't one of them/the event you went to had Bethesda fixing its rules, my bad.

Apology accepted. As for 'the rule' - my meeting was the very last meeting on the very last day. Any gaps in the rule were most certainly hemmed up by then.

Between you, me, this giant community, and the fencepost - I think it is silly not to allow us to at least record audio or video for our own use. It is only going to enhance our coverage. But hey, I don't make the rules.

Man... SuAcide and Brother None are GODS, man, FALLOUT GODS. They got all the power of a 30 Megaton A-Bomb. This was definitly awesome. If I lived in Washigton DC, I would buy some sleeping gas and invade the place and take Fallout 3 from them. They don't deserve it.

yeah, i was kinda amazed by that. just let the press sign an NDA on the release of the audio material. of course, people might breach it, but dont you think people who would go as far as breaching the NDA would be recording anyway, even if there was a no-audio rule?

That must be one of the most humane threats to Bethesda I've seen on this forum.

They're based in Rockville, Maryland, by the way.

Yes, your editings are beginning to improve it, that doesn't change the fact that you have not apologized for accusing of for taping the event and releasing ill-gotten screencaps with no basis for your accusations, or that you're personally attacking us "a couple kids without scruples." Which is just a cheap, personal, unprovoked attack.

Let's see. You deceived Bethesda (your word, not mine). You can either take responsibility for that, or keep claiming the moral high ground. (I'm not holding my breath here, by the way.)

After reading this, I don't see why you guys are even making the effort to argue with this "journalist".

Agreed. That dudes really pretty pathetic, trying to write up about how deplorable NMA's 'actions' were (the ones he made up), yet when his proverbial crutch was taken out from under his arm and he still tries putting up a fight.

Way to cut down those evil-doers Peckham,

Shit! I'll have to write my EVIL PLAN from zero then! I'll soon have Fallout 3, MHAHAHHAhaheauehauheau!

Also, I think that if Rosh was doing that previews along the guys, Rosh would probrably Mortal Kombat Todd, right there.

I say, we should construct an HK-47esque droid and send him to facilitate communications and prepare previews.
