The game Brian Fargo was noted to be working on for Bethesda is not as we'd hoped Wasteland 2. Rather, it is some fantasy third person dungeon crawl, Gamasutra reports.<blockquote>Bethesda Softworks said Monday that it will publish Inxile-developed Hunted: The Demon's Forge, a "third-person co-op fantasy action game" for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

The publishing deals comes shortly after news emerged that Inxile's crime game Heist was canceled by Codemasters.

Bethesda said the game is powered by Epic's Unreal Engine 3, and is a "third-person dungeon crawl with the intensity and action of a modern-day shooter." The player and a partner go up against waves of enemies using ranged and melee weapons. The game will also sport co-op based puzzles.

Inxile was founded in 2002 by Interplay founder Brian Fargo, who worked on games inlcuding The Bard's Tale, Baldur's Gate and Fallout. Michael "Maxx" Kaufman is directing Hunted. Previously, Kaufman was art director on Kingpin: Life of Crime, Redneck Rampage and Gray Matter's Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

Bethesda Softworks president Vlatko Andonov said in a statement, "We believe gamers will be really excited about what these guys have in store for them."</blockquote>Thanks Duck and Cover.

The absence of Jason D. Anderson in the press release is noticeable, since he is creative director, but apparently not on this title? That leaves us to hold out hope he's working on Wasteland 2.

Also, Brian Fargo really didn't do much on Baldur's Gate or Fallout. Ah well.

In a way I am kind of relieved that its not Wasteland 2, for a while I really had the idea that Bethesda was getting a monopoly on PA themed games.

I also hated the idea that their marketing department would have influence on the design of a potential Wasteland 2.
"It needs more wacky stuff like exploding baseball guns", and "Those quests are way to complex, our fans just want to kill things."
I sort of can imagine those cries from them.

On the other hand it is sad of course that there is still no news of a Wasteland 2 or if it has ever been in production.

Once again it seems that Brian Fargo is dancing around that question while singing "Perhaps we do, perhaps we don't"

As for the project they are making for Bethesda, meh who cares?
More generic fantasy shit with gameplay in the spirit of God of War.

I wonder if they ever finish this one, Hei$t anyone?

At first read, it sounded to me like the gameplay of Diablo, but perhaps it is more like God of War.

I don't know what the business politics and final project status were between Inxile and Codemasters when Codemasters cancelled the project. Codemasters stated cryptically "it was focused on high quality titles." Which might mean that Hei$t while nearing completion just wasn't a game with graphics as glossy or with action as intense as they wanted, and performing the final bug testing and fixing, manufacturing (discs, boxes, and shipping), and marketing would be less profitable than Codemasters using that money to make more DIRT and Operation Flashpoint games.

I highly doubt that Inxile was just dinking around like 3D Realms was with Duke Nukem Forever. The industry word was that Codemasters wanted to focus solely on internally developed titles, and didn't want whatever Hei$t would be upon release to damage their reputation. Note that Codemasters isn't exactly known for niche titles, so Hei$t might have been an interesting game, enjoyed by the likes of NMAers, if it had been given another six months of development. Maybe Hei$t was crap. But unless someone hears otherwise, this all ammounts to speculation. So I would hesitate to blame Inxile carte blanche for Hei$t's cancellation.

Meh, God of War or Diablo, is there really a demand of yet more of these games.

Well I brought up Hei$t not with the idea that they screwed things up, perhaps it was a really well developed and worked out project.
If it sounded like that, it wasn't my intention.

More that we barely have seen any games from Inxile so far, only The Bard's Tale, and some mobile phone games I never really looked into.

Inxile really has to do some effort to show that they make stand out games.
Their latest project doesn't sound interesting at all.

Am I the only one pleasantly surprised that it's not some iPhone or flash game? I've been half expecting inXile to announce its demise one of these days.

I managed to confirm that Jason is contributing to Hunted to an extent, but his main focus is a yet to be unannounced project.

Yet to be unannounced? So it's announced, but at some point in the future they'll unannounce it?

THE SHOE IS ON THE OTHER FOOT NOW.

Sounds like someone's trying to shuffle in on Demon's Souls territory.

The name, the concept, the look.

Eerily similar it is.

That's what I thought.
Not a bad thing necessarily if it's done right.
