Or maybe the Top 5 will all be Zelda games? They're the best and most immersive RPG games out there ;)))

No.

Wouldn't be surprised if something like World of Goo is in the top 5

No.

I wonder if there will be any Nintendo games in this list....

No.

BN, I know this is your "the games i had most fun with" list, but are you saying that you had more fun with GTA VC than you had with Arcanum and VTMB?

Yes.

In fact I already answered that question. And again, I realise we're all RPG players here, but do we seriously have our head so far up the sand to not see how flawed those games are, and that this is to their detriment?

BTW, I'm going to hold off on checking that list out, I kind of like them being revealed one by one.

The list does not spoil the remaining entries, just a handy ref guide for all existing entries.

they aren't immersive RPG games but they sure are some of the best console action adventure games ever. Ocarina of time, Majora's Mask, A Link To the Past, The Wind Waker.

Oh! Where was I? Ah, yes, the list. As expected, it's predictable and overly verbose, but still, not too terrible. Not as good as mine, of course, but pretty good nonetheless.

My prediction for the top 5:

1. RoA
2. Failout
3. Failout 2
4. Some artsy Russian crap
5. Some overrated console shit

How am I faring?

Vice City is the only GTA that can stand against Saints Row 2.
To be honest Saints Row 2 kinda sucked... all it has that GTA doesn't is customization... and GTA was never about customization.

GTA has hard scripted missions. As far as I know, Saints Row 2 has not, which is a big deal, imo. People always tell you "in GTA you can do what you want and do missions how you want!" which is not true. Sure, you can drive around how you like to... and can start missions in a different order every now and then... but every mission runs in the same way. There will be never anything different (i. e. stop the car you are following before it hits his target, because only then a cutscene will be started and then you can get it, etc. etc.)

Apart from its obvious repetitiveness and quick-time events, I enjoyed the Scarface game a hell of a lot more than most of the GTA games. Well, I haven't played IV or San Adreas yet, but at least Scarface did two things that GTA should've done long before. Namely getting yourselves a driver who gets you a car from your garage, and the ability to call a weapons dealer who can fill your car trunk with a variety of armaments. I know car stealing is pretty much what made GTA GTA (duh) but there's no reason why I should have to do tedious work just to find a good car and a bunch of weapons every so often if I have a huge crapload of cash that I'm supposed to be able to utilize.

Saint's Row 2 I also still have to give a better shot. I played an hour or two. All I got away with was a very good first impression of voice acting. Games need people that don't obviously act, but fit almost naturally into their role. Saints Row seems to be good at that.

Says the guy with Link in his avatar

Main problem I have with the Zelda games is that their general target audience is around 10-14 y.o. with a certain cultural background (I played Counter-Strike at that age lol). Still, I'm a bit too old to like those games by now. Also, I find the Ys games that employ a similar formula (YsVI and on in particular) much more appealing to me, not the least because of a better story and a less "cutesy" design.

Don't think we'll see planescape torment?

BTW what's RoA?

Realms of Arkania 2: Star Trail. Known as "Die Abschließende Fantasie: Sternenschweif" to German audiences, Star Trail is an old single-player MMO developed at least 100 years ago by the German branch of Square Enix based on the Final Fantasy license. The goal of the game is to defeat an androgynous main villain and romance every underage girl in the troubled land of Arkania. It was notable as the first game that allowed players to purchase additional outfits for their character on the Internet, including a long trench coat in pastel colors and peacock-feather hat.

LOL at the Die Abschließende Fantasie :-) It's called Das Schwarze Auge.
</nitpicking>

Anyway, the ROA/DSA games are great RPGs indeed although quite hard and challenging.

Look, I'm fine with you not being all gushy about GTA, but could you stop making stuff up? Messing with the Man is a good example right out of VC of how you can do a mission every which way, you can take the bike and drive around shooting up pedestrians and cops, but there are alternatives, including piling up cars and taking the flamer to them or luring a helicopter and emptying a clip into them. Hell, remember the Rhino-jacking mission in VC? You're supposed to steal it when the soldier enters the doughnut shop, but you don't have to, you can also take on the soldiers headon, the game doesn't force you either way.

I played Saints Row 2. It's basically San Andreas but with more silly shit and more repetitive missions. I don't recall seeing any missions that are less scripted than GTA's.

Out of all the nonsense in that post, you're going to nitpick *that*?

I'm fairly sure Saints Row 2 does the exact same thing.

Well, there are the cheat codes for that. And GTA 4 added something of the sort with the possibility to call friends for favours.

I never knew that.

Most don't knoiw why they like SR2 over GTA4. I think it has to with not being called every 3 minutes to go look at "Big American Tittites!"

That and Saint's Row Guy(Englsih Voice) is possible the biggest bad ass ever.

And whats with the personal attacks on BN for his picks? serious much?

Seems to me like you overlooked, that I wrote I like the games too, even if I wouldn't put them in my personal list of fav+ games.

Truly you have an astounding ability to reply to the least relevant part of posts.

Also, I am aware of your opinion, hence why I said "not being all gushy" rather than "dislike" or "hate".

What personal attacks? At worst I see some friendly ribbing. If anything, the responses have been way to ebullient.

Not as good as your what? I don't recall you ever getting far into your list.

I didn't felt like responding to the rest. It's not that I need to have the last word on this. But well...

I finished every GTA game at least two times (only GTA4 not and SA only once) and what I remember right now, beside some exceptions in every GTA game, what happens in a mission is mostly always the same. That's nothing ultra bad, because also as far as I remember, GTA didn't claimed to be unique everytime. It's the people who spread this around the world and it was most hard to feel while the GTA4 hype.
