Call Of Duty: Black Ops

Where'd That 6th Toe Come From?

Not a bad looking trailer at all, and the hopes are high on me that Treyarch can learn from the mistakes IW did, while still keeping their own perks; great overall atmosphere, good multiplayer maps and, most importantly, Nazi Zombies, the undisputed best spinoff- type game mode in a complete game EVER.

I'm just hoping Treyarch can pull a decent SP mode, even with Activision looking over their shoulder at all times. Otherwise, I'm done with the franchise (especially if the rumors that an action-adventure MMO will be announced at E3 are true).

cant say I find the trailer all that impressive. What do people find entertaining about Call of Duty anyway ? It stoped beeing interesting for me already a long time ago when they decided to make singleplayers only 2-3 ours long ...

Activision has said that they want to crank out as many CoD games per year as possible.

Besides, Treyarch hasn't made a good CoD game yet, so I doubt that'll change this time.

If the solo campaign will be as dumb as in World at War and the multiplayer will be an arcade frag-fest again, I won't even bother trying it out.

Also, the trailer is basically what CoD has boiled down to - explosions and "cool" camera work.

1. The WaW campaing wasn't dumb at all to my opinion; even thought it was a tightly scripted tube with a lot of opportunities to do something really weird, the overall atmosphere in it was just beyond comparison. Just play for example Vendetta (the first Russian map); the "intro" of it is just plain awesome unless you are a small minded perfectionist propell-head with nothing better to do than bash everything except the games you like.

2. I believe (and hope) they will learn from the mistakes of the previous games (fragging from CoD 4, one overpowered noob weapon from WaW, and all the thousands of new details in MW2 included only to make the game more noob-friendly) and keep the good sides like customization, good maps, intensive fighting where a player can succeed with pretty much any tactic (excluding the MW2 knife-running and other incredibly stupid ways of playing) and the addictive level-based playing that encourages the player in active playing.

I meant horrible AI and poor map design. The story itself was pretty good, but execution was often very lacking. For example, in numerous occasions enemy soldiers ran into a group of ny allies, without the said allies noticing it. Add the fact that basically 99% situations required me to on a heavily fortified position, even though I was pinned down from fire of numerous enemies. And the grenades...

So, pretty often I was pinned down from enemies firing from cover and point blank distance (because my comrades didn't bother to turn around and shoot that jap standing half of meter away, between 5 american soldiers with absolutly no cover around him) and with multiple grenades landing at my feet, having no other option but to try and run for the next cover ('cause otherwise other soldiers wouldn't advance), abusing the health regeneration and whatever explosives I had on me.

Also, being dragged away from near-death situations by that russian seargant got old after first two times, not to mention the ridiculous ending sequence. Other that that I can't really complain on the atmosphere or storytelling. On the other hand, I enjoyed very much the fact that in a couple of situations you had a choice, like how would you execute the german captives. Very nice touch,

As for point nr 2 - I wouldn't count on that.

I actually liked CoD 3

WaW's campaign was horrible, and the MP was just as bad. The zombie mode was awesome, but that didn't save the game.

After the mess that was MW2, I'm no longer interested in future CoD titles.

Black Ops!? 8-) So cool, so edgy! 8-) All the gamers of today's generation will love it! 8-) It's like I'm really a spy! 8-)

Honestly though, I liked WaW more than MW2, but it was still not a very good game (Nazi Zombies was great though, I admit), I won't be buying any more CoD titles.

the worst thing about WaW was that the overall game 'mood' was a bad copy of the first modern warfare copy. World War II isn't supposed to be 'dark-y', I think. But the game is very entertaining, and kind of cool.

I've liked 3 more than 2, WaW more than 4, so far WaW more than MW2 even.

Pretty much, I've enjoyed all the Treyarch titles much more than the IW ones, so I'm hoping Black Ops will be entertaining.

OK, I admit, the friendly AI was horrible, and the über- accurate enemies with a weapon storage full of grenades stuck up their asses or somewhere was a bad thing, but really all CoD singleplayers are the best fun when played on a super-easy difficulty, when these details can be ignored and concentrate on whatever you want to do. But still, again, saying that the end of the Russian campaing was just plain stupid, without addressing the atmosphere (I'm starting to repeat myself with this "atmosphere"-spamming) at all shows a nice bit of small-mindines

You act like we did it single-handedly. And I didn't buy MW2, my brother did.

But still, Black Ops sounds like it will be so cool and edgy! 8-) It's like I'm really a special forces agent! 8-)

Seems to me that you like this game a tad too much and take offense at every critique. As for the ending...

[spoiler:c6d1e7c181]The moment the flag sequence started I knew something bad would happen, it was goddamn obvious. Then you get shot at point blank, the seargant jumps in with a machette and slaughters the german who shot you. "Don't worry Vasili (or whatever your name is), you can't die!" WTF? Had my character died immedietly or bled out, I'd say diffrent, but as it is, I must say it was rather silly.[/spoiler:c6d1e7c181]

Just because you liked it or it fitted the atmosphere doesn't mean it's good. It certainly could have been better.

PS don't correct me on what the seargant exactly says at the end
