Call Of Duty: Black Ops

The enemies had random spawns. SWAT 4 is really fun at times just because of that, one game you'll go around the back and it's clear, next time you open the back door and you're toast. Just gotta get lucky sometimes.

I haven't played SWAT 4 but in SWAT 3 I was laughing my ass off sometimes when there were a dozen terrorists in a cellar, while all their hostages are running around the building totally unguarded. However, the fun always ended when I was looking for that last hostage/terrorist/gun I had to confescate for some reason even though all the enemies were either dead or arrested, and I just couldn't find it anywhere.

Yes. And that problem was still present, though to a lesser degree, in SWAT4. Despite the quirks, I love the randomness of the SWAT series. That's how replay value is created. It's unfortunate that linearity and movie-likeness is now the popular thing.

in games like Call of boredom anyway.

I have to say I liked such games the first time you got them like the Medal of Honor series and Call of Duty 1 which used a lot of stuff from movies (D-Day anyone ? Or Stalingrad ?). And it was pretty entertaining.

But I think they really didnt pushed the franchise enough nor did they anything to really improve it. They got better visuals. More physics and all that. But have they done anything to use that to give you a better feeling ? The story has become more strange then ever and the time you play more shortened and shortened.

In addition to Black Ops, didn't they just trademark a massive load of new Call of Duty names?

Well, at least Sledgehammer Games is working on a CoD that they say will stronly differ from other CoDs (unlikely), they say that Infinity Ward is working on MW3, however IW is almost dead so it may not be true... They are going to make it like Guitar Heros, publishing a new game every few months.

EDIT:http://www.callofduty.com/blackops/?path=blackops/
a new, in-game-footage trailer is out now, and I gotta say the narrator sounds dangeously like Shepherd in MW2.

Why did you play MW2 if it bugs you so much? Aren't games supposed to be providing some sort of entertainment?

Not that the devs advertise they game with these. "Hey, check out our game where your companions don't even know that they are suppose to shoot at the enemy AS FAST AS THEY SEE THEM, instead of waiting 30 seconds and getting killed in the meantime. We also offer a wide selection of over-the-top and badly designed levels with virtually no interesting content!".

It kinda surfaces AFTER you get the game. To be honest, Moder Warfare was a reasonably realistic game on that field, so I kinda expected the same.

Ehh... What?

You kinda think about buying a product BEFORE getting it. I am quite sure the gameplay videos were in abundance at that time so there was no reason for you to buy it if you were not satisfied.
Heck, some thread for a Black Ops trailer :-)

I'm talking about the mission when Roach and Ghost die and Shepard turns out to be the traitor. Once you secure the safehouse and are suppose to defend the data transmitter, the mission turns into a turture. Multiple times have I seen a situation where enemies stood in the hallway with absolutly no cover and my allies did not lay a single shot on them, despite having a clear shot and a full clip. They usually started firing after 5-10 seconds. Then of course you need to make a run for it, with enemies spawning in front and behind you at the same time, while being under mortar fire. Finishing it on Veteran was fucking awful.

As for no interesting content...well, there weren't any memorable game moments that'd make it worth the pain you need to go through in order to reach them. Some lame moments like getting rescued by Soap in a Bruckheimer-style of action scene didn't really make up for all the flaws.

Trailers usually show the good stuff only, it's hard to make a good opinion based on them. I also hoped for a good multiplayer...well, let's just say I didn't get what I expected.

As for off-topciness...well, we kinda discuss how Black Ops should be diffrent from MW2 and what were the flaws in it that should not be repeated. Or something similar :P

Yeah, Black Ops, I mean, how much more mature does it get? Just look at all these dark colours, heavy music, moustached hardcore gritty guy, explosions everywhere. Damn, finally a real, mature war game that explores the psyche of a soldier and the consequences of combat.

That's not what I meant :P I don't mind a good old Hollywood action, but it has to be done with style.

Or, more likely, darkly colored and themed but still the same superficial and romanticed shooting range. (Note that althought I don't hope this, I can prepare for it by forecasting it, so if it actually turns out to be more, I will be VERY gladly suprised, and if I doesn't I won't be extremely dissappointed and fall into depression.)

I always asked my self though, for the case one would REALY want to make a game about it how to simulate the effects of PTSD in a game ( a real issue with many soldiers in combat, also called shell schock effect and battle fatigue ~ old names ).

I guess it would be an adventure game in the vein of Sanitarium.

Finally some real in-game footage from the single player. Looks like vehciles will be made somewhat like in Bad Company 2. In single player this may be good, but I sure as hell hope that any attack helicopters or tanks won't be present in the multiplayer. Light vehciles like cars and bicycles (how awesome would that be!) could actually be a goosd thing in the multiplayer, especially if the maps are as large as in WaW.
