Companions: Thoughts about them?

My favourite companion is Raul, I find him quite funny (mind you, I'm playing the italian version).

Other companions I like are Boone, Arcade and Veronica but on my second playthrough I plan to take a companion and keep it somewhere safe just to have its related perk. With them around you can't do much in combat but charge forward...

I would like to take Raul with me very early in the game, but Black Mountain isn't that easy in the beginning...

I didn't really have much problems with Raul's voice acting though it's kinda monotonous on the long run.

Curious about the italian voice acting, was it better than Fallout 3's Stanislao?

Problem with Raul is that Danny Trejo was chosen to voice him only because he was Machete. Didn't work out very well. Sometimes stuff he says is funny, but his timing and delivery is pretty bad.

Not to mention the actual movie Machete was disappointing.

Also, Boone could probably beat the damn game himself.

Is Boone.... MYRON BABY?!

They sounds VERRRY similar. I like to think I have a pretty good ear for this sort of thing.

Edit: Thanks for the confirm BN, Just had a whole heart flutter of nostalgia. Myron is one of my top game chars. So now Boone is too.

Danny Trejo was a horrible bit of casting. There's more ill-chosen casting involved (Felicia Day, Matthew Perry), but it surprisingly works out.

Yes. Jason Marsden.

Generally I like the companions a lot more here than in Fallout 3 considering the companion wheel, perks and generally better voice acting and writing. Plus with ammo weight they become much appritiated pack mules.

However they still suffer the same problems. I still sit there incredulous whenever I jump over a foot high wall and have to watch my companions run 5 miles around benny hill style until then can find a flat bit of terrain to get to me. It's especially rediculous with ED-E who should simply be able to fly over.

But like I said I do like the companions and nearly always have one around. Cass is a great, if only for the immortal line "No one has a dick that long, not even long dick johnson and he had a fucking long dick!" Veronica's very funny too, and also one of the few cases I can think of in gaming where an openly gay character has been handled so well (Biowares handling of it with that elf from Dragon Age still makes me cringe). She does seem to be bugged though as ever since the end of her quest she just won't follow me, which is a kick in the nuts.

Followers I don't like are Boone (not bad just cliche and overpowered) Raul (again not awful but a bit useless) and Lily (who's like a Wild Wasteland event, except where as with most WW you can snigger and then leave she just won't leave you alone). I don't have confirmed Bachalor or high enough speech to get Arcade. Rex is ok, but he's a bit too bizzare and he's not ED-E.

But honestly I think my favourite companion might be ED-E. Not as a character you understand, but he just fits what I want out of a companion. He's quiet, not too powerful but strong enough to help and he can carry fuck loads of equipment, even if it doesn't make sense how you fit a Grenade Machine gun into a robot a little larger than my head. Most of the others are great characters you understand but after you've heard Cass say the same damn whiskey line for the fiftieth time you just want to put a shot gun to her head before emptying whats left into your own.

Yip, as Ausir and WUE said. They should probably put a correction for that into one of their patches.

Jason Marsden's done a ton of Fallout work. He's a very good voice actor.

My favorite's Veronica. Great gameplay mechanic, lots of cool quests, she's in the Brotherhood and she can punch things so hard in the gonads that she breaks their spines.

The only real major drawbacks for me: she's a lesbian who wants me to find her a dress. And not one of those fun fake lesbians who makes out with a girl for attention, sadly.

Oh, and she's voiced by Felicia Day. Nothing against the woman personally, she seems cool, but her diction is fucking awful.

Weird. I was doing ED-E's quest, and that Knight Lorenzo contacted me on it. He sounded normal, but for one line, he turned into a Spaniard, accent included. I am utterly confused.

Yip, happened to me too on that dialog. There's another end-game dialog that does the same, and some more dotted throughout. Sloppy.

Yeah, Gen. Oliver did that I think.

Also, maybe the reason Veronica and Arcade have better voice acting skills than the other celebrity-voiced actors is that Felicia Day and Zachary Levi are both nerds and have actually heard good video game voice acting?

Voice of ED-E was the same for me always. You are sure you've played a patched version?

Yes, I mean that. :p The sentence was written bad. It's such a obvious change, I should have noticed it, if it would have happened in my game.

I was quite pleased with the companions overall, though I didn't really bother with Lily, Rex, or Raul, other than to complete their side quests for the sake of it.
For the longest time I was with Cass, who I though was somewhat fun to bring along, especially once I got her an upgraded Hunting Shotgun.

Veronica I spent the most time with, as I enjoyed the enthusiasm she brought. That and she did rather with with the Ballistic Fist and a Multiplas Rifle later in the game.
Arcade was also pretty good with whatever Plasma weapon I gave him, and I enjoyed bringing the Remnants together.

I spent a little time with Boone, who I thought was pretty good, but ended up leaving him as he would have made my dealings with the Legion short lived.
