Could the NCR reverse engineer the Boomer's B-29?

Does the NCR have infrastructure to reverse engineer and build b-29s? From the NCR Military’s point of view I'd think a B-29 would be an attractive alternative to vertibirds as they are lower tech and no one short of the Enclave would be able to counter them. Granted they might be over kill against most of the people the NCR ends up fighting.

Vertibirds are Enclave tech, the one the NCR possesses was commandeered from a battle and is only used by the president. I doubt they have the engineers and manufacturing machines to build one of their own.

But they have all those planes in MacCarran and they could get some from the Searchlight Airport, and the Boomers managed to fix one Bomber, they could at least try and make some planes work.

Pretty sure they can, even if it takes a while. The fallout setting is full with scientists of all kinds, so the ncr having a few of them doesn't seem unlikely to me.

why bother... 100 people shooting up at a B29 with lasers would destroy it. Lasers move at speed of light... even a weak laser would tear right through the aluminum skin of a B29. Most shots would hit it and they would either hit something like the fuel or control wires or would kill the crew.

The B29 would only work once IMO and it does at the battle of Hoover Dam.

But air transportation would be usefull anyway.

I agree that air transportation would be useful, but I would hope they would find something much more economical to build than B29 copies.

Just wanted to bring that up, if the NCR need air transport they can always fix those planes up.
I think there are also indications that the NCR has some planes other than the president's vertibird and the ones back West that are shown when you decide to launch nuclear armed missiles at the NCR.

I don't think the NCR in general has need for bombers, the world hasn't developed to such a point that there are many 'powers' out there with advanced industrial infrastructures.
Plus the NCR's goal is to reclaim stuff of industrial and military value, not blow it up.

The Boomers wanted the bomber simply because they are obsessed with weapons and explosives.
They will probably use it to defend Nellis but I doubt that they will use it for any kind of military campaign despite what the Boomer children think would be fun.

I would think that fuel would be a larger worry than getting the plane to work, knowing the fallout's setting.

Well, we have energy cells all around for weapons that produce enough power to cast huge plasma balls. And the weapons are manufactured and not salvaged. If they are unable to use that technology for powering cars, trains or planes, then world is at its end for sure.

Fission batteries, mate. Get enough of them, and that should be enough to power it.

Then what of the resource wars? Were they in vain?

Well, considering how they were introduced in FO3, and how that game is full of plotholes...
I could be mistaken though. Were there any mentioning of widespread nuclear tech in the first 2 games?

Well, things like energy cells definitely existed. Perhaps they just weren't as popular in other countries. I don't know the extent that RobCo and the like stretched beyond the USA borders.

The resource wars happened to maintain completely industrialized nations that spanned very large territories, not to keep a handful of cars, trains, and planes running.

In that sense having a few working planes honestly doesn't clash with the setting.
What would be more if the NCR suddenly starts building factories that produce dozens of planes.

I think not. New Vegas was set around year 2280, that means the B-29's were obsolete for more than 300 years. They would have to build a whole new factory for this kind of aircraft.

It was over 130 years between the B-29 and 2077 at the Time of the Great War. Even if the NCR had access to working airframes, they'd have to go back to manufacturing new equipment, which they're not in any actual position to do. At this point, the NCR isn't even really fielding new ground vehicles, let alone aircraft. But if anyone could do it, the NCR probably has the best chance, even if it is slim.

The Boomers were lucky in that they had an intact airframe as well as a museum piece in great condition to put together their bird in the air.

A fanatical fascination with the bomber in question didn't hurt either
