Dead Money reviews

I just tried it yesterday, the Goldbars can not be Z dragged, or at least I couldn't Z drag them. and I lost Vera's dress because you don't have to go all the way back to the entrance, you can just go through Elijah's elevator when he is in front of the Vault door, but I had dropped them in the entrance. Also if you shoot Vera's Skeleton with Bloddy Mess the skeleton turns into a pile of gore, and my Cannibal Charater could actualy devour the Skeleton. There should have been a use for the Canibal Perk when fighting the Ghost People, but it woudl poison your or something, and also a wearable Hazmat suit woudl have been nice. Still not happy with the "you can't visit the Sierra Madre again after you leave Bullshit.

ANd another thing, about that "forced Stealth phase" thats, well thats just compelte bullshit on the review, Holograms are more about movement patterns, and vison fields, if you analyse them carefuly and you know what you want to do you can actualy run past them, its more about analysing evirorment, for example in the Casino Vault there is sequence were 3 holograms are gaurding the zone with the terminals that deactivate the laser fields to get to the last section. I didn't have to rely on my sneak skill, I waited for a little window of oportunity to appear and ran like hell, Holograms can't folow you beyond a certain distance from their emitter, I don't knwo if they react to noises, but certainly sneaking is not the only way to get past them, if you are a unarmed specialized character the game rewards you a lot for the risks yo uahve to take in battle, the bear trap fist is just awesome unleashed once you get the "Cross" Vats movement. You can get lost in the Villa pretty easily but if you pay attention to sings, the buildings with their balconies and you will find your way easier than just blindly following your quest marker, like ELijah said "That piece of robco trash is just a convenience, it tells you what to do and where to go, it dulls your mind".

Heh, true. I thought it was pretty funny when he said that.

I've always wondered, is there actually any point to z-drag in FO3/FONV? I've never seen it used other than for cheating/metagaming. Why is it even in the game?

Oh wait, I supposed there was that one side-quest in FONV. But I feel like it was made just so that you could use z-drag.

It's in the game because of immershun. Also you can place books on shelves in some house from which you can pretend that it is yours.

And yes, it's totally useless. Players use it to move away items from npcs, then picking them up. NPCs don't see it and you can be happy with your new 7000 caps plasma caster that you just stole right from under the nose of the trader.

the Z drag is terribly implemented, I mean you can't even use it to throw objects to distract enemies, it only works for stealing things from the Van Graffs without getting into a energy weapons fight.

z-drag would be much more useful if the enemy AI reacted more violently to finding the fresh corpse of one of their allies (closer to the way it's handled in the hitman series)

playing as a stealth char would be more fulfilling to me if you could stealth kill people with a silenced pistol to the head, then z-drag their body out of sight and have it actually be useful instead of being a computer aided larping experience.

using it for a an object-throw manuever ala crysis would be entertaining too.
I've had a couple of occasions in FONV where I kicked a barrel down a hill at an enemy and was dissapointed when they weren't flattened.

The one where you drag a dead Ranger's corpse to a checkpoint? That was kinda dumb really, looted the fella so all they got was a nekkid dead guy flopping about.

I blew up his limbs so all they got was a peice of.... something.

There's another quest that requires to drag someone using Z. It's for the White Glove Society chain of quests, the one where you're supposed to knock unconscious some poor sod to the north of NV, and drag his body to a dumpster next to his house. So that's...2 quests :P

Are there any Dead Money reviews out there that were done based on the PC version alone?

Z or drag is for exploit stealing. Take a gun at Van Graffs and move it at the safe distance where you can be hidden and steal it. Works for everything. Cannibal Johnson has a melee book and you can't hide even with 100 sneak to steal it near him, just do z and move it somewhere.
If you don't steal go do fun things with it, throw bottles on peoples heads to see how that turns out.

In the scripting there are blocks for Begin OnGrab (Runs script when the scripted object is grabbed by the player) and OnRelease (Run once when the scripted object is released from the player's grab).

So it is possible to script realistic reactions. At least to fix the Van Graff's store by maybe adding an accompany player AI package to the guards as long as the player is holding store gear.

But it would be time consuming and I doubt there is much demand for less lootz.

Seems like a non-issue though, no one is forcing you to meta-game. Just because you can can steal in silly ways doesn't mean you have to.

"Hey Gloria, mind if I take this Plasma caster to the bathroom? fine, I'll be back in a minute".

I thought the story was overall pretty darn good but I don't know if I quite liked the idea of ghost people and holograms. I'd really like to see a DLC coming out that is all about exploring and solving puzzles (and not heavy on combat) in the fashion of Puce Moose quests (anyone?). Wishful thinking, I reckon.
