Dead Money trailer out

I liked Icewind Dale II far more than the original, for what it's worth.

It was a glooorious hackjob, on many accounts. Still a fun game, but not nearly as good as IWD1. The only thing it had going for it was the conversion to 3rd edition rules.

Interesting. The atmosphere looks nice, and I don't mind the explosive collars that much (I just expect this doesnt mean we have to protect the other captured people; escort missions universally suck). The jumping gas mask dudes could be iconic ennemies or just stupid ones, that is one easy line to cross.

The laser ghosts, however... I really see no possible way this could ever be good.

And that tidbit about the bald girl's writing is... surprising, but I guess it is possible; just look at who's in charge of the project. So, trailer looks a bit weird, but with Obsidian doing the DLC I can still have faith. Doubted them before New Vegas; not so much now.

It also reminds me of this - Battle Royale...with a sprinkling of Fallout fairy dust. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Royale_(film)

It exhibited better writing as well (an aspect touched on critically as well as on the personal level).

- Hello? I'd like to make a collect call.
- You have chosen 'slow and horrible.'

LOL
you see!? Fallout is all about being funny, in a painful way sometimes.
Humor would be a good response for a modern, emancipated person suddenly thrown in a post-apocalyptic world... that is to keep sane.

Well, it tried. The parts that had writing were done quite well, but unfortunately the balance shifts heavily towards h'n's in later chapters, so IMO they didn't follow it through as much as they should've to make the improved writing matter. So, pretty much same problem as Lionheart.

One problem with Black Isle games has always been that they have exhibited jarring differences in writing (and design) quality between areas. This can be seen in the Fallouts and Torment, but never so blatantly as in IwD2. The lack of QA in that game is truly embarrassing. Overall the game redeems itself, but I would think only for people who already love the Infinity Engine.

(Reviewers talking favourably about the writing quality may have received this impression from the first area, written by Avellone.)

Hahaahaha.

A stereotype? A stereotype.

You have no loving idea. I'm not even going to go into it, because she's one of the best-written characters I've seen in forever. Her dialogues are sublime, I'm talking Planescape-level awesome, and you guys should all experience her for yourself.

Now that it has been revealed that she is 'mute' is this mildly hyperbolic post a joke?

It must be, unless he's talking about the dialog "around" or about the character, not actually her lines.

It is someone who claims to be a focus tester making random claims. Just ignore it.

Well, he must have some connection to the game (or is really good at guessing) because he revealed that the ghoul was featured on posters a while earlier.

GetWellGamers is

So yeah, I'm pretty sure he IS trustworthy. And even a mute can be well written. Believe it or not. How he meant exactly "dialog" could be for example just interaction per gestics. Which can be pretty damn deep.

I didn't say he wasn't. He's offering an opinion without context. When a tester or whoever offers info I'm interested. I have absolutely no reason to care about his conext-less opinion. Less than no reason. Hence, ignoring it.

Yeah... too bad that's from the first episode of Futurama, not Fallout...
