Decent Sci-Fi FPS

Hello all,

One of my favorite genres on the PC is the FPS, or in more detail; the sci-fi themed FPS.
Its a genre that is sadly neglected these days, being replaced with more popular 'modern warfare', and 'WW2 warfare'.

I would like to ask if the people here know of any decent upcoming Sci-Fi FPS games in the near future.

"Aliens: Colonial Marines" was a game I was really looking forwards too, being a fan of Alien and Aliens, and being pissed that an earlier game with the same title was canceled.
Unfortunate this title has been postponed until 2009.

I was also looking forwards to "Half Life 2 Episode 3", unfortunate it has still not been announced and I fear that we will probably see it October next year.

Well two somewhat Sci-Fi themed FPS games are Project Origin and Dead Space, but Project Origin leans more towards horror, while I rather distrust the second as it is being published by EA and the storyline sounds like a blatant Aliens/Resident Evil rip off.

On the moment I would even be happy if M$ would announce Halo 3 for the PC.
I am aware that it is an overrated title and that some people actually claim it to be the second coming of Jesus in the games world but right now I would really like to play something involving aliens, space ships, and saving the planet.

Its rather more done out of desperation than fandom, are there any other options?

Fallout 3. It's being made by - I think, but I might be wrong - Bethesda and from what I hear, it'll even have some RPG elements added to the formula. Not a lot, but there will be some. I would add a link to some screenshots, but I can't find any at the time.

Anyway: it might be worth checking out.

Is that supposed to be funny?

Blacksite: Area 51 (the 2007 one) is a decent FPS. It doesn't have space ships or anything but it is about aliens and is a solid shooter, if you ask me.

I'll second that; As long as you stay away from the filler planets and quicksave often (GPF crashes... lots of them), you're in for a fun ride.
 
Perhaps I will check out Mass Effect if it gets cheaper.
Well I don't have to bother with the storyline as it is cliché enough, only thing missing was the main villain saying "I am your father!" at the end.

Well it honestly does feel like that and the comparison has been made often, but I don't want to offend fellow NMA'ers.

A question about Halo 2 Vista, my friend generalismo Furioso told me that apparently a lot of people feel that the controls are broken compared to Halo 1, is this true?

From the reviews I've read it seems like the general feeling is that the graphics are awful, and that the game performs like shit regardless of the graphics being awful. Controls are one of the strong points.
 
Well it is an older game but I am not that much of a graphics whore as long as it is playable and enjoyable.

Now if the controls stink too.

Anyway, Prey is a really awesome game with the creepiest alien abduction sequence ever. I'd also check out Crysis, if your PC can handle it. I can't believe noone suggested it yet.

Subjective. For some people "your mother is a twat" is not an insulting sentence. Let's not knock him for trying not to offend others, yea?

Back on the subject. Gears of War is sort of a sci fi FPS, sort of. There is also a crapload of Star Wars FPS'es.
 
well, at least stop the muslim "bashing". you get us all killed with that, and ive grown kinda fond of this board here.

anyway, prey, stalker, mass effect, for starwars "fans" republic commando (impressive immersion, too). i liked the star trek shooters too, but i cant tell you why (since they kinda suck), might be nostalgia, i loved star trek as a kid.

you yould try crysis, too. otoh, nearly every goddamn shooter has futuristic elements in it today....
 
Holy shit, he's right. How could we forget about Riddick ! It's an impressive game, really brutal, pretty immersive, with nice stealth sequences and with cool eye candy. Oh and it features Vin Diesel and XZibit. Mmmh.

No, I'm serious. Check this one out ! And forget about Blacksite. If you like the demo then it's cool, you've seen the best part of the game. If you don't, then don't even bother with the full game because it would give you nightmares for months. Probably the worst game I've played this year ( and I've played a lot of games this year ).
