Developer Diaries: Character Playthroughs

Except those brutal children in Fallout that steal daddy's tools and hide them in the rocks... Oh and those little devils in the Den that steal your equipment. I think a kid in Klamath throws a Molotov cocktail at you if you piss him off...

Granted none of these actions REALLY deserve death, but like all people in Fallout, kids are just trying to survive and none of them are truly innocent.

Well, I was mostly talking about kids in real life, but I see your point.

When I saw this I hoped it was photoshopped. But then reality smacked me like a whore with 30 years of experience.

you should probably read the article. it's a joke character called Porkchops. I don't like being able to create ugly characters like that, but you can and if people want to then it's not Bethesda's fault and they shouldn't be blamed for it.

Yeah they shouldn't be blamed for stuff they added to their own game, took screenshots of, and sent out to websites. *sigh*

yeah ok, so my words weren't carefully chosen. I'm just saying, that picture has really nothing to do with the game in itself. it's one persons idea of how he wanted to play the game, that's all.

not trying to defend anyone here, just pointing out that it's silly to be all "omg, Bethesda suck at creating models!" because of that picture.

That stupid looking face in the 3rd picture pretty much sums up what Bethesda has done to Fallout.

Well, I've been at NMA for over a month now, I think, and this comment seems to sum up about every single post I've seen here regarding Fallout 3. You guys(yes, I'm generalizing because it's true) are basing your entire opinions on this game over screenshots and gameplay vids, which is pretty ridiculous. I still don't understand WHAT Bethesda has done that is so bad.

And no, I'm not employed by Bethesda. I'm just a hardcore gamer that appreciates GOOD games, and I don't see how Fallout 3 has no chance to become one, according to many of the posts I've seen here.

if you look at those screenshots, and all previously posted and documented, and do not see the many problems inherent in them...

not to mention the numerous cannon breaking, gameplay breaking, quest/dialouge breaking...

nobody is saying it wont be an ok or halfway decent FPS shooter with RPG elements...

the WHOLE problem, is it is NOT fallout.

how many times do these idiots have to be told this?

The thing is, Beth doesn't like constructive feedback. They hardly ever listened to their fan bases in the past, why start now? We (the hive mind that is NMA) have known a lot of things about F3 that needed work, but Bethesda has not fixed any of it. The thing is, they just don't realize what Fallout is about. In almost every interview, Pete/Tod/Emil always say just how awesome and violent fallout games were as if that was the only reason they bought the license. They speak of dark humor but all we see are silly, over the top, exploding bodies. They totally destroy the sense of awe in nuclear weapons, making a nuclear catapult. The countless mistakes they made with the fallout universe are not likely to be fixed in F4.
Well, you can't say that they don't like the community. They talk and chat to them all the time. They even send the Bethesda Forum Mods free stuff from their games.

That's like maybe $50-$80 for a year or more of free labor. :P

YOU sir, just called me an idiot....
So, how many times do we have to tell ye sad sods that the basic Fallout defining shit is in there?: We've got SPECIAL (slightly altered), we've got retrofuturistic aesthetics, we've got "dark" humor, we've got open-endedness, we've got several ways to tackle LOSTA quests, they even managed to hack some pseudo turn based combat with the VATS thingy....

Of course I would've LOVED to see turn based combat, a cool updated 3D isometric view, real and deep dialogue trees, I'm really scared about companion NPCs being shallow and etc... heck, I would of killed to see the traveling map being traversed by a red cross and dotted red line... but I won't give up on it being Fallout 3 until I've played it.

oh my god. look at the disfigured an disproportionate face in the second picture.
Not only does 'Forrest Gump' have a disproportionately sized head, his face and neck are of different skin tones. Or is it a she?

I think it is great that as users we can customize the look of our character, but some things just break the "immersion" considering the game setting

Your list would be more convincing if it weren't wrong. And missing half of the fundamentals.

The reason people constantly chase him is because he's an ugly son of a bitch. :ok:

Awww, c'mon, my dear and respected Per. SPECIAL IS there. Retrofuturism IS there. Freedom in an open ended world IS there. Adult themes ARE there. Lots of quests and several ways to adress them ARE there. Dialogue options based on yer skills and stats ARE there.

I dunno for ye, but for me, FO1 and FO2 were what they were thanks to SPECIAL (a RPG system I have yet to see rivaled) and the great atmosphere it managed to achieve (with the dark humor and retrofuturistic feel, the music and the weirdness, the sense of not knowing who to help and who to trust, etc). On top of that we had unlimited freedom. We all know the flaws, I won't bother to list them here, but I think them bethsoft guys have got the basics covered.

Have faith ye heathen masses! just little faith!

i've only recently signed up but been lurking a long time and these postings surprise me more than Myrons attitudes with women. :)
Everyone is bent out of shape in that we can customize our character to the stupidly extreme yet missed a walkthrough where you COULD build a playable non-combat character??
It always ticked me off I couldn't play oblivion without taking some fighting skills and a lot of us here were worried fall3 would be the same. Yet, it seems it might be doable.

While I doubt FO3 will be the fallout I remember ( and frankly VATS is going to drive me nuts) at least there is hope in a way.

Excuse me, I was fooled by bethesda's "we're making it more serious and less goofy than Fallout 2" approach.

It is different. Children are innocent. They haven't done anything to deserve to be brutally murdered. Sure, taking a life is taking a life, but why do you think any parent would rather they die instead of their child? It's because kids haven't experienced all life has to offer, while most adults have-and they have also had the opportunity to sin, which children are not guilty of.

I really tried to avoid flaming you, but you're asking for it.

Dude, YOU are a kid. YOU. You're barely out of the kindergarten, with no real understanding of the world we live in and with no idea that there could be more things out there than what that teacher you're squirting your juices for told you. Seriously. Live a little before giving life lessons, eh?

There is really no difference between killing a child and an adult. An adult can be defenseless too. An adult can have what to live for too. Who the fuck are you, a dumb fucking kid to decide who has lived enough and who hasn't? What about this: kids don't really know how life is, so there is no real loss for them, while adults know and may enjoy it. Boggles the mind, eh? And what about this: who do you think is more affected, a parent who loses its child or a child who loses its parent? :headexplode:

And sinning...oh, boy, how I could bash you only for your beliefs. But that would be too easy, eh? How about coming back without dumb religious arguments, wouldn't that be nice?

At least you are pretty literate so there might be a chance for you (although given your acute ignorance I can only see you becoming a religious fanatic), as opposed to the majority of dumbfucks who come here to bring us on the right path.

are basing your entire opinions on this game over screenshots and gameplay vids, which is pretty ridiculous.

And on what are you basing your opinions, may I ask? Oh, wait, I forgot that your opinions are facts, because mommy told you you're actually really awesome after she went to your school to ask for an increase to your marks.
