Developer Diaries: Character Playthroughs

I suspect the ability to make your character look goofy is a pseudo-role-playing element: cheaper and more superficial than an actual role-playing element.

The more images I see of this game, the more I appreciate genuine Fallout's impersonal graphics. Since most of the characters used the same animations, they had to have good dialogue to give them personality and make them come to life; you couldn't just make a character look weird as a substitute for personality.

Awww, c'mon, my dear and respected Per. SPECIAL IS there. Retrofuturism IS there. Freedom in an open ended world IS there. Adult themes ARE there. Lots of quests and several ways to adress them ARE there. Dialogue options based on yer skills and stats ARE there.

I dunno for ye, but for me, FO1 and FO2 were what they were thanks to SPECIAL (a RPG system I have yet to see rivaled) and the great atmosphere it managed to achieve (with the dark humor and retrofuturistic feel, the music and the weirdness, the sense of not knowing who to help and who to trust, etc). On top of that we had unlimited freedom. We all know the flaws, I won't bother to list them here, but I think them bethsoft guys have got the basics covered.

Have faith ye heathen masses! just little faith!

What beth got down is the NAMES of the defining things. Sure they got SPECIAL but it is changed and apparently simplified. When you play the game you will face the fact that it is an FPS game and stats dont mean shit.

The others TOPICS such as open endedness can be found in other games and are not so characteristic... But in general they got the NAMES or TOPICS of the defining things and just changed all the little things under them that actually made the previous games FEEL like Fallout.

SPECIAL IS there.
Dumbed down, watered down SPECIAL. Low intelligence and dialogue? Charisma affecting party size?
I'm sorry, but perks like Intense Training and Boobleheads along with the ability to accomplish tasks through minigames make SPECIAL not so special any more.

This looks more like the T-51b than the standard BoS power armor in FO3 (no helmet though):

Agreed though the lighting isn't very good so I can't be sure. Still, the shoulder things look too low (I said this in another post, Beth attaches them in the worst place).

The thing is, Beth doesn't like constructive feedback. They hardly ever listened to their fan bases in the past, why start now?
Indeed, I got a warning on BSGF for giving them feedback about their PR.

You want to know the real issue? Bethesda needs to drop the Gamebryo engine.
I actually think it's more of a staffing issue than an engine issue...

Taking the life of a child is probably the most disgusting act of wretchedness a human being can commit. Cannibalism is horrible, but it in no way compares to the immense emotional implications of stealing someone's baby from them. Children are innocent, and to kill them is satanic in and of itself. It may seem like I'm going overboard here, but whenever I hear of someone murdering a little kid, it makes my blood boil.
No, killing a kid is far from the worst thing that someone could do, I can think of many things far worse than killing a kid and death is rarely the worst thing you can give another person.

Are you suggesting that Satan or satanists kill children? I seem to remember a lot of children being killed in scripture and not one of them was killed by Satan or a satanist, the same cannot be said of God or his followers.

You can cannibalize small children.....lets face it both of these activity's are wretched, on the other hand Fallout is just a game and you cant use social responsibility to take out one activity(child killing) and totally forget about the other one (as if cannibalism is pro-social)
What's so bad about cannibalism? As long as the body being eaten isn't diseased then it's a good use of a corpse, far better than burying it or burning it to place on one's mantel. What about people who don't have much food? Is it wrong for them to eat what they need to in order to survive? The only thing that cannibalism is that's negative is it's unappetizing in some cultures, but the key word there is "culture" which does not imply any sort of logic.

Umm...when was the last time that I said this was going to be a great game? A long time ago. I'm afraid of saying it, because it might not be true-just how your guys' line of thought might not be true.
Put up or shut up. If you think Fallout 3 looks good then provide the reasons why or else people will mock you. If your reasons are decent then you'll receive a minimal amount of flak. Besides which, not everyone here hates everything about Fallout 3, there are pieces that most members have complimented.

After browsing through the images, this struck my funny/cynic bone:

Too little too late, old man...
It would be awesome if that was an intentional reference.

I keep coming back to this but what is with the font size? It's like size 20 and is part of the reason they can't display much text on the screen.
