Die, Clanner- a glimmer of hope for Mechwarrior fans?

Then let's get to the obvious stuff.
The only Mech game I can accept is a sim, but:
1) I can't see how a good sim would work on 360. MW3 used shitloads of keys, how's that gonna work on 360's controller?
2) Piranha Games on wiki
Games
* Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza (PC)
* EA Playground (DS)
* Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 (PSP)
* Need For Speed: Undercover (PSP)

Kotaku mentions that they worked on the Revenge of The Fallen game but... no real sim games there.
3. Nothing says they have any experience with previous Mechwarrior games or BattleTech at all.
4. The trailer... uh, the visuals were ok, but it felt so cheesy.
First, the voice acting is terrible. It's like mech pilots get a boner every time they do something in their machine. Second, it gets the "mature" treatment- "oh shi-", "I've got you, you sonofa-".
On the other hand, I can see a little inspiration by Mechwarrior 3 intro- ruined city, Atlas, etc. And the surprise-Atlas was also nice, I think. Very climatic.

Please be a good sim :(

They already said they want to include a few rpg elements (like, the longer you use a Mech, the better you will be in shooting stuff, etc).

I already see it everywhere: New MechWarrior RPG is out!!1

I don't care how big a fan you are, if you can still get excited by this endless tripe of reimaginings and sequels the game industry produces, you're an idiot.

I'm expecting something about MW4-quality. Funny too, when I saw him duck behind the building the first time I got the idea they implemented some cover system.

i'm up for an updated mechwarrior, but what they showed here was really fucking bland...

when he ducked behind cover i was like 'ok, cool, about time' but then he stood there before the dead guy and nothing much seemed to damage him? sjeez, how is that worth making into a trailer?

Yeah, no crap. I realize that the Atlas is a walking machine of death and testosterone-fueled wish fulfillment, but the way it was basically deflecting every attack (with an extra-cartoony ricochet sound effect for every impact added by my imagination) and the lame dialog gave the trailer the vibe of a seven-year old boy playing with action figures.

I haven't played any Mechwarrior game since Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. I loved that game, though, so I wouldn't mind a new one, if it's done well.

Were 3 and 4 any good? Are they worth playing, considering that the graphics must be somewhat outdated by now? I guess I might try to track them down, if they aren't complete shit.

3 and its expansion are good, but 4 is already dumbed down and feels more like an action game than a sim.

3 and 4 were ok, 4 had the worse mechlab setup

and really, the biggest problem i have had with all the mech warrior games is they suck at being true to the board game for mech lab

no mechwarrior game will ever be better than 8/10 untill they do a mechlab that allows me to build mechs like i do in the board game.

4 had some nice improvements over 3 in the mission part, and was overall an improvement over 3, but the worse mechlab part dragged it down.

Well, it seems that Mechwarrior 4 and its expansions will be released for free soon, so I'll be trying that one for sure. Unfortunately, Mechwarrior 3 seems to be somewhat difficult to obtain at a decent price.

If it's true that the 4th one was dumbed down, I guess I don't have particularly high hopes for the new one either. It seems unlikely that they would make it more complex than the last one, especially considering that it's also planned for the Xbox. Too bad, although I'll still be checking it out when it's released. Hopefully there'll be a demo.

The lead guy is the co-creator of BattleTech, my favoritest tabletop game ever. I'm going to go ahead and give myself a pass for being a little excited, because I think he "gets it."

I loved Mechwarrior 2, 3 wasnt that good, there wasnt much management in it.
Im waiting to get FREE mechwarrior 4.
The new one ? Seems okay i guess. Its bit early to really make a opinion, but ill probably check it out if it isnt garbage.

MechWarrior

The series gets a reboot, and it looks AWESOME!

There is a Q&A at IGN.

Really looking forward to this one.

I deem this to be the superior thread, since it has both the trailer embedded right in post and a link to the Q&A that addresses most of the negatative assumptions people tend to make first thing.

I wish Valve would publish this. It certainly wouldn't be rushed

Can't wait. I spent a lot of hours playing MWII back in my university days, so this has me stoked!

Merged!

Ugh, the dreaded reboot, I am starting to hate these, no matter what fictional universe.

In this case it's warranted. There's been 3 straight games set in the boring old Clan Wars timeline, and only one extremely lo-fi entry in the halcyon days of the cool Inner Sphere mechs. Also, it's being produced by the guy who actually made the PnP Mechwarrior game, and he wants to move the game back closer to its RPG roots (with pilot skills, ect).

Still, the important thing to keep in mind is that what we're seeing is basically just a demo reel to attract a publisher and get a budget. There's no telling if that's even going to happen, and if it does, the publisher will have veto powers over gamplay elements and we could be seeing another Mech Assault before it's all said and done, so there's that.
