Which brings me to another question. If we must have all these diverse protagonists and those fucking WHITE MALES are so terrible that they need to be done away with and White guys just have to accept playing as someone that's totally unappealing or unrelatable to them because if they don't they're sexist/misogynistic shitlords....
I don't think there's a war against white males or there's a particular need to get rid of white males as protagonists. I do think there's a definite half-assing of female and diverse characters which makes the games played to be less enjoyable. I mentioned Fallout 4 as a sign of the problem with the game where the straight, white male protagonist is the default. This is problematic in Fallout 4 but not
The Witcher 3 because you're SUPPOSED to have options in Fallout 4 which isn't the case in The Witcher 3 where you're a white male character and it actually MATTERS to the plot.
Ditto you can't do Mafia III in the Sixties as a White character. It's an important plot point you're a racial minority in a time which shits on them.
Maybe create a game about some African war or whatever instead of retconning WWI to be extremely ethnically diverse? Same with SJWs crying about sexism, how about instead of ranting and raving about why Link just
needs to be a girl for some reason you make your own game? Of course when SJWs
DO actually make games they're entirely text based word documents like Depression Quest or Walking simulators you can beat in under 50 seconds like Gone Hom
oe so maybe it's better they don't
Well, there was this theater of war in World War 1.
WW1 wasn't just a bunch of white guys shooting each other in Europe. There were also a bunch of Black people fighting in the conflict for America. But I do think it's lazy storytelling and a bad idea to treat the experience of those Black soldiers as identical to those of White ones.
You can't just do, in video game terms, a palette swap.
I'll go ahead and say I think New Vegas did an absolutely fine job of it. I didn't even know Veronica or Arcade were gay until multiple playthroughs later and reading about it online. Hell I recently played it a few months ago and found out Major Knight was as well. They don't make a big fucking deal about it. Theres no "omg i cant handle this opreshun u guise!"
It's interesting you also bring that up because Arcade has no problem with homosexuality because he grew up in the relatively open NCR. While Veronica DID deal with homosexual oppression in the Brotherhood of Steel. It's just not the whole of her problems--which are much wider and more related to the setting than just being gay.
She is a character who is gay and not a "gay character" primarily.
I actually think this is a better because Dorian from Dragon Age: Inquisition suffered a bit from the fact he lives in a slavery-practicing infernalist magocracy Empire and his primary problem is his dad doesn't like him because he's gay.
It seemed like a missed opportunity.
Oh well thank God those noble slavs where "gentle" to the women they were raping. Clears that whole thing up. Soviet Union eternal good guys.
Yeah, I don't see the need to polish Soviet war crimes.
