I disagree. I have standards. People should be treated equally but I've met plenty of people smarter, stronger, or more attractive than I.

Beauty is subjective, intelligence is varied and sometimes specialized and strength... well strength is all good, but we live in a society where strength is becoming less important.
What is "modern"?
Modern is just currentness. I'm being semantical now, but any "now" will always be considered "modern time"
Will we lose our progress, and revert to a stone-age level of civilization - globally?
It would have to be global, because there are hunter-gatherer humans sharing the world with us as of this very moment, so, humanity - as a whole - is not high-tech. Some communities live like in the stone age (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sentinelese_people for example)
It would take a really serious disaster to throw all of humanity back to no-clothes and stone-tip spears
Even primitive societies are able to work simple metals, using ceramics and fire (you don't really need more. That is how stone-age society came to work metal in the first place: Ceramic (clay) containers can hold molten metal, and then all you need is a brick oven and some fire. A spear-mold, again, in ceramics, pour it in, and voila - you have a copper bronze spear tip. Alchemy!)
Ramble aside - I find it very unlikely that humanity would collectively be thrown back, everyone together, to such a state of existence, forgetting all our methods of refinement, forgetting all our written history - simultaneously - and suddenly finding ourselves at a stage where we cannot fathom how to weave clothes or tame animals
Like a lot of philosophical questions, it's fun to explore in fiction, but in reality we are more likely to persist like a bothersome infection, keep multiplying, keep developing, and we can only guess how far we will make it. Millions of years of further existence is not unlikely.
I do however suspect more barbarism, if that counts. As humanity continues to grow - exponentially at that, and a lot of world markets today allready base themselves in exploitation, this has the possibility of becoming more "outright" as the masses become more vast, and the individuals disappear yet more. People living as "modern slaves" count in the many millions, while in a less-than-ideal future, this could end up forming a larger and larger percentage of humanity. We have always predated on each others, and it seems like we are only going to continue.

Well... eskimos live, and Tuareg tribes wander the middle of the Sahara
Any climate effect would have to surpass either Sahara heat - or Greenland freeze, in order to kill us off
Our squishy biological selves have a limit, for example, we cannot survive boiling temperatures, and there are no eskimo-like tribes living in the hell that is Antarctica, but it will take more than a bit of flooded cities to end us
Global warming is an inconvenience, for now
"millions" sound pretty extreme, but compare to other animals.
Velociraptor has a fossil span of roughly 5 million years of continued existence
If dumb little Velociraptor could, we sure as hell can

Idunno where I read, probably more than one place, but there's a hypothesis/conspiracy theory that global warming is intentional, in order to un-freeze the permafrost (and invade and partition Russia in the process)
In this world maybe we are facing floods, tropical temperatures where there shouldnt be any, and uninhabitably warm Equator (the same way the arctic areas are uninhabitable today) - this still doesn't mean humanity goes extinct.

Try to have a normal conversation with people, that does not include debating or scrutiny or arguing or thread vatting.
Do you go downstairs, and when someone says "Would you like to watch a classic film?", do you say "define classic film".

In social darwinism, there is no such thing as "as humans". Hey, if you could solve it by simply spelling it out, social darwinism wouldn't exist.
The biggest flaw of social darwinism is the denial of NATURE. Yes, they always point TO nature, saying "nature does this, nature does that", then ignore the fact that humans are nature, and it is our nature to have compassion and look after each others. "No other animals do this" just means they have spent maybe 2 hours of their whole life researching animal behavior, maybe stopped at reindeer and zebra, while ignoring impressive fossil record showing evidence of Homo erectus tending to wounded and sick individuals, as well as many indications of wild animals caring for each others, chimpanzees showing sympathy for mentally ill members of their tribe, cats and dogs helping fellow members, birds offering collective assistance to species-members, etc
The idea that nature is kind of like Hitler is only convenient to their idealism, and has no real foundation in reality.
Human nature IS compassion.
