Do you think Obsidian considers Fallout 3 canon?

I feel like when it comes to the dlc they have and the presence of the wasteland survival guide. In fact, what do Obsidian think of Fallout 3 in general? I mean I'd feel like theyd say the story was garbage as well. And then there's the someguyseries mods to which I know they're mods, but they're so damn good and respectful to the overall lore they may as well be canon.

Events of 3 are directly referenced in NV, so yes.

E-DE comes from Adams Airforce Base (Broken Steel) and there's reference to Lyons Brotherhood IIRC.
For the most part though, FO3 is barely recognized. And nothing in Fallout 3 is so important to any reference in FNV that you'd even have to play it to understand it.

i believe the wasteland survival guide in new vegas is more of a survival book written by another author not Moira Brown herself. and is not tied to the Wasteland Survival Guide quest in Fallout 3.

I too like to consider New Vegas Bounties canon.

As far as i know Veronica references a civil war between two BoS factions which i assumed was the BoS Outcasts and Lyon's BoS. though i could be wrong. ED-E also comes from Adam's Airforce Base so there's that though it's not a direct link between new vegas and 3 as Adams Airforce Base could of existed without fallout 3 though it exists within fallout 3.

Officially yeah but not in their hearts. Theres a making of bluray that comes with the collectors edition and when Sawyer says "a lot of people liked fallout 3" he does this smirk that just kind of says it all I think.

F3 was/is pretty fun. gets more hate than it deserves. Not saying it's anything special as NV is better, just saying.

I do like the jab in New Vegas on how retarded the Super Mutants in Fallout 3 are. It's like turning Super Mutants into mindless ogres was, well, retarded.

Good to have variety of mutants, but all of them being dumb besides Fawkes is just lazy at best, yeah.

Josh said later that people were reading too much into that.

And to repeat what is said above, yes they do consider it canon (at least they had to considering the publisher.) People have tried very hard to get developers to say bad things about Bethesda's fallouts, without much success.

Not among the majority of game-players it does not. This is one of the few places that will point out tirelessly F3's many many many faults, and has been doing so since the game came out, thankfully.

There is a reason that F3 was AKA, Oblivion with guns.

the irony is now Bethesda (actually the whole of Zenimax and all it's properties) and Obsidian work for Microsoft. so i doubt they would trash each other games. it's very unprofessional plus i think people over state just how bad fallout 3 actually is. so much so they want the devs to join in on their circle jerk. the devs probalby disagree with certain design choices obviously as we seen in both new vegas and fallout 3 follow completely different design philosophies. but that don't mean they will join in on trashing the other dev teams game. lol.

The only thing these people have left is the circle jerk. Don't take that from them.

Would you please then articulate arguments as to why Fallout 3 is better than we think? If you have done so already, I can only apologise for missing them.

I suppose I can ask the same of yourself sir.

I do so enjoy going back to 2008 threads and reading just how awful those on this site found Fallout 3 back then. It is sad to see such a softening that has come to pass, to my mind. Perhaps you can convince me otherwise.

As much as I like Morgan most of their arguments on that front seem to come from nostalgia

My argument is that the Fallouts of yore will not return and to just let the oldies have their lemon party.

I do like the sweet tears of people that liked Fallout 3 saying how shit Fallout 76 is and how the series is in the trash. Those tears sustain my life force.

I have no emotion left for what's happening with Fallout. I think it's interesting to autopsy it because it is such a directly contrasting case of doing RPG design and worldbuilding right and doing it completely wrong within the same setting and series.

I'm very content with the series being Fallout 1, 2 and NV. I don't have the energy to be perpetually mad about unrelated spinoffs anymore, but it's interesting to examine what went wrong

They probably share the same opinion as Bethesda on the topic of "Canon Fallout lore."

Tim Cain himself has been pretty cool with the Bethesda Fallout's implementation of the lore so I doubt Obsidian feels much different.

I'm always excited for anything Fallout, whether it's by Bethesda or Obsidian.

Maybe it's stupid, but I can't help but love enjoying the worlds. That's one thing I can at least praise about 76, despite how terrible it is overall.

So basically, that those of us who would be more hardline should.... chill out? To use an expression. Nobody is doubting they will not return, but there is a purpose in telling people why they were better.
