Dungeon Siege III

I thought the "Her words become lies and ours become truth"-line was pretty harsh. Especially because you work for the 10th legion. I mean, how many games do you know that treat you dialogue-wise like that? Mass Effect, as example, would never do that. It would always be "we are so heroes, our heroes have heroes on their heroes and they all speak the truest truth."

It gets even more impressive if you know the context.

The role of both Odo (aside from beeing the narrator and a prominent figure in the backstory) and Marten (the guy you meet first in the game) by the way is actually representing two different ideologies and both try to persuade you at multiple points in the game to advise you which decision you should make according to them.

ill wait for the price to drop.

while it may end up being a good game, its just not in the same vein as DS 1 and 2

and i really liked the mechanics of 2.

this is very much NOT like 1 or 2 mechanics wise.

its akin to what happened from FO 1 and 2 to 3, although at least they tried to keep the skills/stuff the same even though changing all the mechanics.

Technically, yes.

But I'd say that while Fallout had to lose quite a lot, DS1 / 2 had not. I mean, it's not like Obsidian took some great piece of rpg and transformed it into a dumbed down shooter. I've played DS1 a lot as well and I liked it for the time being. But I can't say that the game got hurt a lot with the changes in DS3. It never was really unique anyway.

After ca. 8 hours of playing (Got the game this morning) I can say that the combat is definitly Obsidians best so far (Well, with the debatable exceptions of MOTB and NV). Dialouge and Story are also picking up and the game has very nice and atmospheric and well written side-dungeons. (Gunderic Mansion/Heroes Crypt)

Though whats probably a problem here is. These optional dungeons are pretty "in your face" and you get the related quests to them in the course of the main story.

I'm through with one playthrough. Will start the second after next weeks patches.

Again, moral ambiguity in this game is very well done. Not as complex in dialouge as in lets say NV or Mask but "better" in its shades of grey and with many details attached to it you either find out through lore or if you are analyzing the situation.

You won't really find a major charachter in this game whose actions are not somewhat releatable and Jeyne is Obsidians best attempt at a "grey" antagonist (IMO).

Also the game did an incredibly job at making it feel like "my" and my companions adventure according to who I play. Its pretty obvious that there is a lot of "hidden" dialouge according to who you bring into the conversation as yourself or your companion. In the case of Anjali (as a companion) her interactions with the NPCs seemingly even had influence on the ending slides.

Here are several concept arts from Nivbed + Lineart so thats really something

Semi-necromancy here, but I picked up the game lately (sudden surges of disposable income + loads of free time are good times indeed).

And I like it so far. The gameplay is nervous without being completely chaotic (clicking on enemies to change targets seems to work for me), only thing I really dislike so far is that ''q'' changes stances while 1, 2 and 3 switch abilities, it's easy to hit ''q'' and switch to wimpy pistols when you just want to snipe the boss. The story and dialogue are decent, with some choices cropping up here and there.

I do find that the women are over sexualized. I picked Katarina because I like the gunslinging aspect, but her... features are a bit exagerated. I mean, big lips, high heels, stockings, bared midriff and huge cleavage? Is she a warrior or a prostitute? I should have picked the Mage, or Ajanji (whatever), at least she looks like she wears some armor.

Graphics are decent, with the art direction being usually generic, except from the sweet-looking Causeway. I just finished the first part of the game and am going to Stonebridge, I hope there's more of that kind of thing there.

Silly me, I didn't even spot the key binding menu, while it was so obvious. Well, now the game is very much playable with MnKB, I do not see why so many people make such a fuss (I found Dead Space, to cite only it, to be a far worse port, and critics still showered it with praise on the PC).

Don't you see. Obsidian destroyed such a maginificent PC Series and totaly dumbed down for consoles. Don't you see the horrors for us PC Games as we can not enjoy the incredible complexity of Dungeon Siege Games anymore?

Do you?

(Theres actually people ranting about this on the Obsidian Forums)

On one hand I understand this as a Fallout Fan, on the other hand what?

Duh, this is a console game. Throw out the window anything you preferred in the past, the game is simply not catered to your preference! Now be a good consumer, go buy a controller for your PC (or use and xbox/ps3 usb) and have at it like a real gamer!

I'm surprised in this day and age when most PC games are console ports, there's still people who don't own a gamepad. A game made to play well with a controller will most likely never feel right with keyboard+mouse.

Yeah, in the case of DSIII this backfired hard. They wanted to do better PC Controls towards the end but (apparently) ran into troubles,

Actually it seems to me that there are a lot LESS (compared to the late 90s) games on PC now that make good use of other externals. Especially my joystick hasn't seen action in ages (Well, other than replays/modding of Freespace 2)

That's one reason I prefer to say "gamepad"

Pretty much every JRPG or action game port plays better with a pad. Fighting games are unplayable without it. Bullet hell games benefit from it.

A gamepad and a joystick are two different things though.

Yep, but it isn't really used as uniquely anymore. Its ports mostly.

We've had the gamepad discussion thing before. Despite that fact that I rarely ever see the most common 'gamepads', ie console controllers, called that except by pc gamers, the term does encompass everything designed to make playing a game easier. Like joysticks.

I am surprised that most games don't get a decent sort of keymapping support when pushed to PC. Other than analog sticks (which is what they're called in the documentation/every goddamned game, so i'll stick with that) and the triggers (which are pressure sensitive), everything is just a button.

Then again i'm surprised (or atleast disappointed) that games don't let me just map buttons on the controller. Fuck you, Reach, I don't want to use a tactical southpaw boxer. I want to just map the buttons as I please.
