EA considering "paid demo's"

The entire purpose for a demo is to "advertise" and "taste" the game by letting players play a small portion of it. Charging money for one...well that would only get people to not bother to try it.

Then again if you're not able to decide to buy it or not paying $10 for the demo and deciding not to buy it would seem "smart" as opposed to paying $40 for the whole game then deciding you don't want it.

Ugh.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Well, i hate them, but post-USSR will still have DVD-boxes with demo+game+DLC all-in-one for a price of 20-30 thousands (not more than 10 dollars for whole DVD)

Im suprised Pachter actually just straight out compares this to a demo of another game.

Well hard to say anything about this, i suppose its pretty much like what few titles like siren blood curse or gt5 prologue did before.

As long as i have the choise between full game and this and i dont have to pay anything more, i suppose it really doesnt matter to me.

E:Ok i read that article again and as ive been up 48hrs straight my brain deceived me into thinking that pachter was EA:s representative, which he was apparently not.

Coming next: paid game trailers and exclusive game reviews. All information about new games will be tightly guarded like national secrets and released only to those willing to pay money for it.

So fucking what ? They've been making horrible games for a long while now, with this they're trying to make a little money out of the people who don't want their games... Brilliant !

game industry is getting worse than politics
I agree.

We got Ubisoft with shitty DRM on PC, which resulted from the "if the game gets bad sales on PC = pirates!!!" thing.
EA going to try and make people pay for demos with this shit (not like EA is bad enough already, right?).
Activision getting way too greedy and milking all of their franchises.
And games in general being dumbed down for consoles (you know it to be true, console fans).

Don't mind me, just going to play some Deus Ex.

I read this news in the Eurogamer website.
The most disturbing thing is that A LOT of people on Kotaku and Eurogamer actually think this is a good idea!

gamer: "Hell yeah, let's do this and get a discount on the later full game".

EA: "Sorry, 'no full game', the demo sells wasn't good enough. Thanks for your money".

If this is what people want from game companies they deserve it!
Thanks EA, but no, I will play my old games or the older board games of the past.

I like this new purchase structure in the gaming industry:
-pay for a demo
-pay for the game
-pay for DLC

Woot for big companies destroying our hobby.

Bioware is even charging for a DLC called "Alternate Appearance Pack" ofr ME2.
A set of clothes, a crappy f***ing mod!!!

I wonder when they will charge for the water we drank.
Wait a minute, they already do this...

so will we see now eventualy in the future pupblishers/developers complainining how piracy killed the demos forcing them to only realse it on consoles ...

we will eventually see a government tax over people who can play games, just because they are healthy enough to play games. This because lots of healthy people play pirated games and this is ruining the industry.

Some people pay for Video-games magazines, they're basically paying to read big fat adds, so why not have them paying for a demo ?

^ Some magazines used to be good, you know. Although now that we have easy access to internet they're sort of useless.

Yes. They don't really want you playing demos.

Then why even make them, with or without a price tag? I mean, it takes effort. It doesn't compute at all.

Oh, well... It was fun while it lasted. Sweet dreams dear games. You will go there, where no one will ever hurt, rape or milk you again. (starts singing)

"Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so..."
