As everyone expected, the merger between Vivendi Games and Activision that led to the birth of Activision-Blizzard, the new no.1 video game publisher in the world, didn’t sit too well with, now second biggest publisher, EA Games. So they’re thinking of solutions to get back in the top spot, and acquiring Take-Two Interactive seems to be their best bet.

As much as I hate to see juggernauts like EA taking over ambitious, independent developers and publishers, this is the world we live in, no matter how good you are, if you don’t have the financial means to compete you eventually have to accept the compromise of an acquisition. According to many this is the fate of Take-Two, creator and publisher of titles like: GTA, BioShock, Civilization, Manhunt, Midnight Club and many more. Mike Hackey, analyst for Janco Partners, spoke with GameDaily and said that having so many popular titles, many created in-house, is in fact what makes the company such an attractive target for the evil EA empire: “The company owns a large stable of owned and internally developed IP franchises. The recent acquisition of Activision by Vivendi and Bioware Pandemic by Electronic Arts, are clear examples of owned IP value recognition, in our opinion.”

First Bioware and now this?

:(

Well, this seems like speculation, so there's no need to panic just yet.
I recall reading a quote from a high-up at Take Two saying they aren't interested in any mergers a while ago, so it should be safe for now.

EA must be stopped. Soon they will merge with the American government, and then...the world.

I have heard that EA is already in talks with the White House over the aquisition, though nothing is for sure yet.

EA has a presence in Dutchland? Get out while you still can, Khohrn, for they surely have a takeover planned.

He made peaceful contact, which in itself, is amazing. His mission now, is to infiltrate their ranks and destroy them from the inside for the good of all mankind!

Which is why I said, there's no need to panic yet.
What, tl;dr?

when EA will be buying Bethsoft by the way?
According to my astrological charter, right around the time they invade Poland.

Yeah, sorry, I indeed meant published. But weren't Oblivion and its extensions published by Take Two ?

It was published by 2K Games, a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive, so I guess you could say it was published by Take-Two.

Yes. But as far as I know, Bethesda's going back to self-publishing for Fallout 3. And Take Two was more of a distributor than a publisher.

Media convergence?

Market Consolidation?

After Blizzard's merger, nothing surprises me any more. They see the score on the board, and it spells Asia.

Damnit, it was nice being in a niche group of people who enjoyed Asian animation and gaming, but now it's effing exploding, it's got it's own channel for chit's sake.

Now there's a billion and one nerutards and Death note goths running around at cons that it scares me to drink for fear that I might get assaulted by one of them!

What ever happened to the good old mechs, damn this seed crap, or double 0, the victory project rules you all!

Ok I'll stop now, for now... maybe...
