Wait, what? I thought Next Generation was supposed to be one of the more strictly journalistic gaming sites. Hey, Next Gen, a little pro-tip: acting like an inflamed fanboy angry that someone is criticizing your favourite developer is not good journalism.
I'm bringing you in for cross-webpage trolling.

Hey! Thief 1-2-3 is a superb game. It virtually set up the whole genre of stealth action. And the latter, IMHO, is definitely not for those "angry Oblivion fanboys".
So, I do consider Thief to be classic, and I'm quite surprised that we, NMAers, are not unanimous on this one.

Thief 1,2 were great. 3 ? Not so much...but anyway, he only contributed to the second one. Kudos to him for that !

3 was superb, as 1 and 2. Yes, it did have those "new shiny grafikz" and "the immurshn!!!!11" but the overall result was absolutely great. Because, you know... it's no nonsense to get used to good graphics, after all, if the rest of the game kicks butt.

Did I ever say anything about the graphics ? It's just that being a multiplatform title, Thief 3 has a different gameplay and is a more action oriented than Thief 2. I thought that it was enjoyable but rather different from the first and second episodes. Oh, and it was developed by Ion Storm, who are responsible for Deus Ex Invisible War...mmh.

First he moves into consoles, and now...

[...] As for the future, Meier has mentioned in passing that he would like to try MMO’s; the very idea boggles the mind.

Indeed.

And the original Deus Ex.

Also, Shalebridge Cradle SAVES the game.

Is Thief 1-2-3 anything like Lotus 1-2-3?

I've heard of Thief 1, Thief 2, but not Thief 3...

At any rate I've never been a fan of the series personally, neither the Hitman series or any of that stealth rubbish.

:P :D

Ah the top 100 developers as picked by developers and industry experts?

(Or let's all suck each others dicks and call it love?)

Seriously, isn't this like the Emmy's and little mroe than a marketing scheme?

It doesn’t matter what nonsense the vocal minority spews about Fallout 3;

Wait, a reference to us? And they don't call use NMA?

Those fucking bastards!!!

it the project continues in its current way it could be another landmark work for Bethesda, and the game that could make Pagliarulo’s career

Or destroy it.

Afterall, has the Big E even played Fallout yet? Or is he just building this bullshit (on Fallout 3) on first impressions.

Oh, come on, the first was just about immersion crap as the second, only the second had the bonus of dumbing down...

End Justifies The Means

End Justifies The Means

Old Klauswitz cliche, something about -- war as politics by other means --,

Consider this Nex Gen presentation as political in a larger, both arms swept wide gesturing, teh arms akimbo, context.

The narrative format here is a sample of a hollow 'beauty contest', a top 100 best of (rational justification is optional) imaginary construct.

In this pretext of massaging egos, grooming industrial rock stars,
and the blessing of corporate parents,
we witness a vehicle for data consumption and a conduit for indoctrination.

Successful dev's! Successful companies! Successful products!

Observe the shallow social conventions, invoke etiquette, and indulge in polite stroking for one all embracing warm and fuzzy hug fest.

Schmoozing is good.

Critiquing is bad.

Consider this journalism as -- marketing by other means --.

Big E, humming a few bars and faking it?

If Todd H. is being anointed as the rock star - producer - and artistic visionary in Nex Gen marketing theology, then only HIS taste of what is Fallout for Bethsoft's FO3 may matter. All the supporting dev's plunking bass lines and stomping back beats can only add homeopathic hints.

So whether the end result is a mic' licking Mick Jagger or a moon walking Michael Jackson,
[no '50's Inkspot need apply 'tiz' Nex Gen marketing I surmise], we can speculate, or wait.
Go fish or cut bait.

This is one of those ''vision thing' moments.
Todd H. the dot on the 'eye' atop the dollar's masonic pyramid?
In the religion of rock 'kulture' iconic packaging, Mick or Michael,
isn't Todd H. the final gate keeper for what FO is nuanced in Bethsoft's FO3?

After the burning bush spoke, "Oblivion with guns", the Zenimax mission statement (?),
can we finger a lone messiah or a cabal of Bethsoft missionary talent for the final fix of the mix?

For what it's worth, I think Thief 3 was a great addition to the series. In fact, I almost think I enjoyed it the most. Thief 1 relied a bit too heavily on undead and supernatural things (Though also had the most traps, which I wish the series did more with), Thief 2 traded in supernatural for robots and cameras (Though it had arguably the best level in the series, Life of the Party), and Thief 3 was sort of a nice mix of the two. About the only thing I actually really MISSED from Thief 3 were rope/vine arrows. The climbing gloves were functional but not as fun. I enjoyed the between-mission cityscape though. Fencing your goods and just poking around by yourself was a nice addition. Not to mention most of the levels were pretty well done. Not quite as open as Thief 1 or 2 levels, but I don't think I was ever bored or annoyed with a level. Thief 2's final level drove me batshit.

Edit: Oh yeah, I also liked the third person view. It didn't particularly give you an unfair advantage since you could just lean around corners anyway, and since the graphics were pretty decent it let you admire Garrett sneaking around. Also had a lot of fun with physics in a Thief game. At one point I was skulking around a room looting things when a servant walked in and saw me. He took off running and screaming, I grabbed a box and hucked it at him, it hit him in the back of the head and killed him. Good times.

Remember guys, they print whatever sells! lots and lots! :(

Saying that Fallout 3 will redefine modern RPG gaming as we know it before it has even been finished always makes some guys preorder and sell their wife in advance
Maybe F3 will set a lower low, who knows

This next gen top consist of big lucky developers no more... lucky and maybe are talented... maybe. This is peoples in the top owin to a good team!
First place or last doesn't matter... for me =) this is just not my opinion.

Anyone that fat and pasty has to be a spending a lot of time behind a computer, now if he's just eating dough nuts and watching porn, thats too bad but I guess we are stuck with him so lets wait and see what he can bring us...

for a website who claims to be a reliable news source, all your reported stories contain a biased, argumentative, and inflamatory slant. you should be happy you got even a skirting mention in a major publication. don't pull pud on someone else for letting you taste your own medicine.

You are biased and inflammatory. Argumentation is a good thing, too bad you're too lazy to understand that...

This is a fansite, not a news-site per se.
