Even after Fallout 4, many fans still asking for an Obsidian developed Fallout

What can we do about it, then? What do you think we can do? What could people like the posters at NMA and gamers who want games to be more than mass-marketed crap do to make companies stop? The answer's nothing, nothing, and jack-all nothing. Throwing my personal philosophy out one last time, and it's my opinion and mine alone. If nothing can be done about it, it's not worth talking about.

For starts we can all not buy their fucking DLC and stop paying for their games. The fuckers have the nerve to raise the price of the Season Pass too. I can't believe how lame that DLC sounds.

Alright, alright, I'll put a "apart from the obvious" disclaimer next time. Sooo..... any actual ideas on how to change other people's opinions on liking Fallout 4? Like, the million opinions out there that lean towards giving Todd Howard more ego-boosts?

I mean, it doesn't look like the entirety of NMA were buying Fallout 4 in the least, so yeah. Not much of an impact done there, but that's a nice sentiment.

But I guess we can make an impact, small as the impact may be, and that means it is worth discussing. Well, you've beaten my argument. Congratulations, you get an Internet like.

But, I like complaining.

I know, that's what NMA really is for. It's just that some new ideas would be nice for a change. I get that for Fallout 3 some scrounging had to be done but for Fallout 4 all it takes to find the flaws are common sense. Circling around how bad it is and what kind of garbage it represents in the industry is sort of pointless when it's actually pretty easy to do.

I'm an obnoxious newbie, I know, but still, a couple of new ideas in the mix would be nice, rather than picking at classic Bethesda fuck-ups and the corporate-screwed shitstorm that is the modern games industry.

Good thing you didn't check my post history to see that I was complaining too or I would seem like a complete hypocrite! ...oops.

Bethesda also announced more than £45 worth of new Fallout content will be coming in 2016. However, the price of the Season Pass been increased to account for the expanded DLC plan. Starting from March 1, it will go up from £25 / $30 to £40 / $50. If you've already purchased the Season Pass by that time at the lower price, you will get the additional content at no extra cost.

Exactly. Stop buying their shit if you don't like it, that's all you need to do. You're part of a consumer base, voting with your wallet is all you have to worry about.

Most people think that the mix between Obsidians writing, word-building and ability to make a coherent sequel combined with Bethesda's hack and slash, erratic gameplay made a damn fine Fallout game, though allot of people still think Fallout should have stuck to it's isometric roots but whatever.
completely unrelated but NV was rated the second best Fallout game in NMA's latest pole which is pretty fucking impressive considering this place was made to worship the OG Fallouts.

It sure is impressive. Merci for the answer

Kotaku wrote an interesting article about the fandom behind Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas in the face of Bethesda's release of Fallout 4. Seems many fans are still looking for Obsidian to do more with the Fallout franchise, something many people on NMA can relate to:

Kotaku mentions and as many know the Obsidian team are enthusiastic about the chance to make another Fallout and have even noted that New Orleans would be an 'interesting' place as a setting though as far as we are aware there has been no discussion about this happening with Bethesda.

I myself find New Vegas to be holding up with age much better with age and wishing Bethesda had taken note from the love and attention to detail Obsidian had taken with New Vegas.

Can't agree with this enough. I have been a loyal fallout fan for years. Fallout 3 was good, but new Vegas blew me away. Sadly, I am likely a heathen on here as I came to the franchise through console. Only recently getting the game for pc and starting replays through that venue. I was always in the minority when I would insist new Vegas was the better game, and now in my first post on this wonderful site I am so happy to see that I was not alone.

Heathen or not you have been shown the light. Now bask in the The Glow and mutate.

I bought the Season Pass at launch and I still feel ripped off.
Saying that, the release of Fallout 4 has proved to me what a mess hype can be.
I was hyped for the game, it performed under expectations.
And I think for a lot of people, it's the same story.

Fallout 3 could be seen as more of a blessing than a stain.
While it wasn't good by Fallout standards, it did kick-start a group of new fans to the series, bringing the love the original games deserve. I know, I'm one of those people who went back to try the old games, and I implore people to do so.
This new fanbase eventually allowed for Obsidian to release their own Fallout 3 under the title New Vegas.
If Bethesda owning the franchise means we get an Obsidian game with every release, I'm all for it.
In the long run, in works best for both companies and the fans. It's one of the few times where nothing can go wrong by letting a more beloved developer have numerous chances on the game.
Yet, I feel many people's concerns ring true. Bethesda probably don't like the idea that more people want another Obsidian game. Many people are disappointed by Fallout 4's release that it's no wonder why people want a new Obsidian Fallout.
I agree when Super Bunnyhop says that Bethesda can afford to milk this series out a bit more.
And I think Fallout Shelter is prof that people will buy up anything Fallout.
That's not to say I want shameless filler products for mass audience's can pick up.
I would rather those mass audiences play something with a bit more time and effort put in.

It's safe to say you're not going to please anyone, and if New Vegas is the last Obsidian game we get, I'm happy they went out on a such a high.

Also. I have no problem when a company raises the price of their DLC as long as it's justified. If Bethesda came out and said "We're rising the price of the Season Pass by $15, but instead of 5 pieces of DLC you get 8" I would feel that's worth it.
But considering what we got so far, it seems the Season Pass isn't worth it, unless the next announcement is 3 pieces of good DLC.

Fallout 3 was my first fallout, but after playing the first two fallouts and New Vegas, both 3 and 4 feel like utter trash - the dialogue is awful, the story is awful, the gameplay is awful, and the gunplay is abysmal. I have no idea why I didn't notice it before. Obsidian did a fantastic job considering what they had to work with and I loved how much attention to detail they gave to the weapons, rather than Bethesda's "Hey you know the combat shotgun from Fallout 3? Let's make every gun like that. :^)" approach in 4.

While I'd love another Obsidian sequel, I don't think even they can make the series worthwhile now with how much had been dumbed down. I'd rather just have a sorta similar new CRPG IP at this point.

That's a hard lesson I learned back around Fable 2 and Fallout 3. So much hype, so many promises, so disappointing...
Better to learn that lesson later rather than never though.

It's funny how hype has shown us again and again how much of a lie it is. And yet people keep buying.

The only two games to truly live up to the hype was Fallout: New Vegas and The Phantom Pain.
Both were games I were looking forward to and it FNV's case, it exceeded any expectations I had for it.

The only other games were Rage and F4, both are games I pre-ordered and while I think F4 is a decent shooter, I found Rage to be pretty awful. In all honesty, F4 is what I kind of expected Rage to be. So as long as F3 is Rage 1 and F4 is Rage 2, I can keep pretty happy.

Did New Vegas have as big of a marketing campaign as 3 & 4? I know it had that cool CG trailer and all those pictures of the Rangers out the front of Vegas but I can't find/remember anything else.

I don't think it did, I remember it being anticipated and being in a few magazines, but I don't think it got the mass hype of 4.
Still, I wanted to read up on it as much as I could and bought and tried to play the Originals.
Needless to say I completed it in a few days.
