F:NV Mods

How does Fellout compare to Nevada Skies? I mean, BESIDES performance... I keep hearing Skies bogs downs many systems and Fell gives similar changes but with the performance issues. But what ChANGES does Fellout have that Nevada Skies doesn't? Or is it the other way around that Fellout just doesn't have everything Skies does, but otherwise aesthetically looks the same?

Haven't used either yet, would love to know what I'd be giving up to pick one over the other. I'm sure that trivia would help the OP as well...

You can use both. Fellout removes the orange tint and makes the nights darker basically. Nevada Skies adds new weather types, changes the skies, and is more of a resource hog. Both can be used together. I use both most of the time.

Nevada Skies kills my computer for some reason. My framerate somtimes drops in the low 20s and the game crashes at least twice as much. No clue as to why.

I liked Nevada Skies, but stop using it after awhile for that reason.

Even now just using Project Reality, I have to turn off the weather.

Do either of you use the 4 gb extender? If not, that may be why. Also depends on which version you are using. The newest one has been finalized and is officially out of Beta. The old one had a lot more issues.

Could you guys just be a BIT more specific please? =] I mean, those were nice details about HOW "resource-hog" Skies could be, but could you go into equal detail about the INTENTIONAL additions of the mods? I mean, unless my understanding is wrong, I'm gathering that a major difference is Fellout DOES NOT include added weather effects. But is the change in day/night lighting identical between the 2, otherwise? Or is Fellout not as pitch black at night as Nevada Skies (or is it more so)?

While having more weather than JUST "sunny today" would be nice, I'm mostly interested in interiors and night times being DARK, which were missing in the core game. Even if it was just to wait till morning, that would've been an awesome incentive to sleep.

Fellout won't give you the changes you are asking for, not completely at least. The latest version of Nevada Skies will give you the changes you are asking for. There is an interior lighting mod, but I never used it. Fellout simply removes the orange tint and makes the light darker. That's it. Nevada Skies, the latest version at least, does all of that, adds new weather types, and gives you a menu to adjust the weather to your liking. Not much more to explain. Now the older version of Nevada Skies had some issues, and Fellout was more useful then. The latest version of Nevada Skies does what Fellout does anyway, so I need to actually remove Fellout from my load order. Fellout is not as dark as Nevada Skies, not by a long shot. If you want dark, go with the newest Nevada Skies. It's dark enough to where I need night vision goggles. Did I mention the newest Nevada Skies makes the lighting more realistic?

As for it being a resource hog, that really only goes for crappier computers. If you have a couple gigs of ram you should be fine, as long as you run the 4 gb extender. The mods aren't hard to install either, it just takes a little preparation, knowing what mods do what, and what mods don't work together. Nevada Skies has had issues in the past, but the latest version is surprisingly efficient in it's execution. You want a certain weather type to stay that way for awhile, you can set it up that way. So if you want perpetual snow, you can have it. If you need help getting things set up, just ask. It can be overwhelming at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's awesome. Nevada Skies is probably a safe a bet for you, besides if you don't like it, you can uninstall it in seconds, although you will have to start a new save or risk corruption of that save file. I always run through Goodsprings awhile with new mod load orders, to test the waters so to speak...Make sure all the mods are running right, get the lay of the land, test my character out and whatnot. If you like, before you get things up and running, you can give me your load order, so I can double-check it for you. If you haven't even installed a mod manager yet, then I can help with that too. Just let me know where you are at in the process.

Here I have it turned to the darkest setting possible -100. Without the light on you can't see a few feet in front of you. Nevada Skies URWL, not the other versions. Make sure you check the version before downloading. There are three different ones. The other two are older, don't have as many features, and are more prone to bugs.

Hope that helps. Now there are mods that only change the nights dark without adding the other stuff. Just to let you know.

You really can't even use FNV without the extender if you wanna use mods at all. Nevada Skies is pretty good. I really want Western Skies to suck less, but alas, it's not to be. Nasties with a good ENB profile or the directors chair sweet can be super fun and super pretty.

Personally, I'd steer we'll clear of the nexus mod manager. FOMM 4 lyfe.

Doesn't the night brightness kick on at a specified time and then BAM the night get's darker over the course of a split second? I hated that. So I think I loaded Fellout after Nevada Skies (or maybe before, forgive my memory) and it was a nice smooth transition to super dark nights.

I haven't had any problems with NMM. Been using it for over a year.

Gee, this guys has a few minor, but pretty nice mods.

That aside, I recently discovered that, in general, I prefer vanilla gaming for the most part. Particularly in New Vegas' case, where the original with cut content put back in strikes the right balance between quality and quantity.

I heard this ones are not bad either. :p

And yeah, I am only using mini-mods for various stuff, but overal I prefer the vanilla game a lot.

Same, trying to convince a chum I convinced to get FNV during the sale to play it vanilla. He's got a lot of Warhammer 40k mods in it at the moment.

Also I keep meaning to download that Enclave flight jacket.

I can't play vanilla. Gotta have the HP modded to never gain on level for both the PC and NPCs. (who wants to pump 500 bullets in anything to kill it?) Gotta have killable companions that don't auto-heal after combat. Gotta have classic fallout weapons. Gotta make the game deadly to the point where I need to use all those chems filling up my pack.

That would probably help, wouldn't it? Revamps crafting of bullets and the like. Lets you break down cases and hulls to brass and plastic, and make cases and hulls out of brass and plastic. Adds a variety of other bullets to be crafted (BT-HP, varmint rounds, a variety of others), as well as large volume recipes so you can breakdown or manufacture more than 100 rounds of ammunition at a time.

Anyone know of a mod that fixes all of the AWOP typos? I may have to do it myself and that is going to take a lot of work. Once upon a time there was a ferret companion mod on Nexus, but I think it got removed because it may have used Torchlight content. I wish I downloaded it..

Oh I removed IWS though. Way too unstable. My only complaint with NMM is that I had to manually type that list. I added AWOP, Monster mod version 10, and associated patches. Pretty stable so far, 40+ hours in. I just can't get enough of this game. Playing vanilla is out of the question for me though. I've played vanilla waaaay too many times, in depth, all quest variations, all weapons, all endings, just nothing new to do that way. It would be like playing Fallout 2 without the restoration patch. Near heresy round these parts.

AWOP does have some fairly stupid shit in it, but the level design trumps that stuff (Now anyway. I'm running out of mods to try), especially once I fix most of the stupid shit. May take me awhile.
