You will have to rename the the folder called *English* in data\text into *German* to see all english dialogs.
Most of the game will be in english then and only a few dialogs and all voices remain in german.
 
*Another suggestion... when you have to talk to Mc Clure (after the discussion with the brain... and the end of the molerats attacks)... the dialogue is too short... in fact, Mc Clure says he's going to order Stark to stop the operation... of course, it's a good thing, but I couldn't even choose what to say to him... there's only one sentence... =>

I couldn't see anything wrong with it. There was a mistake I'd made that might have prevented damage threshold from being taken into account, (fixed now, hopefully,) but that wouldn't have caused any crashes. :?
 
BUG REPORT! EXPLOIT!

After taking Lara's quest and doing them all in a orderly fashion, I attack the Church togheter with her.. However, a strange bug occurs! One of Lana's henchmen dies and it seems to trigger some other quest, because it says "you successfully backstab laras gang" (or some such) And after the attack is finished and I talk to Lara, I get no reward for helping taking the church with her...instead she adresses me as if we never met, and asks me "What is inside the church?" Whilst she's standing inside it!

Of course I think she is jesting, but I tell her there are some weird chemicals there, and she proceeds and gives me my reward, some well earned money.. I then talk to her again, and she agains asks me "what is inside the church?" Of course I tell her and get my money.. and I then conclude that she must have been hit in the head during the battle, and all of her henchmen too, because they keep saying "We'll get back at Tylers gang..." Even while Tyler & the rest are dead.. :o

After repeating the "whats inside the church quest" for lara a couple of times :crazy:
 
There are some bugs/problems in the game I experience:

1. the generator in the EPA is inaccessible.

2. the game crashes when I deliver the weapons to the village north of Vault City.

3. the boots on my companion disappear or melted every time I reload the game in the smiley quest.

4. the locked doors in the entrance of the EPA cannot be lockpicked or blown appart.

5. the force field in the EPA warehouse that contains the non hostile slave cannot be openned in any other way
 
There is still one bug from vanilla FO2 here that I would like to see fixed. The bozar is likely a Barret M82. The description is that of a sniper rifle. It would make a reason to take big guns, they are all too dangerous to groups as is. Or even better, just give it a single round capability and sound and retain burst capability. :D

You may not feel this is something to change, but I think this was just one more thing they glazed over as they punted this game out the door. IMHO this would be part of a restoration/bugfix.
 
Bugs

I have also experienced several of the bugs listed in the previous pages. I have installed the vanilla version of the game, followed by your expansion, with no extras.

-Den: Lara quest is somewhat buggy. The first time through, she was killed in battle, and i received experience for betraying her, but after the fight she was alive and blocking the door.

-After successfully completing the fight at the party, I allowed lara and her gang to walk off-screen without initiating the dialogue that would have completed the quest. Thereafter, whenever I enter the East side of the Den, Lara would initiate dialogue as though we had just cleared out the church, and would ask me to assist her at the party. She would then teleport me to the party, but would herself remain at the church.

-Village
Game crashes if you attempt to complete the quest by delivering weapons to the village.

-Gecko
I completed all of Gecko and most of Vault City before getting the quest to save the villagers. Part of this quest involves going to Gecko and talking to The Brain. He recognizes the fact that I already fixed the powerplant (after a line of dialogue where he asks me to do him a favor before he will stop the attacks), but he seems to think I never optimized it. In fact, he re-issues the optimization quest even though I had already completed it, allowing me to complete it again for full XP.

I am still playing through and will report bugs as I come across them. This is a really excellent job you have done here, and I can't believe how much effort you have put into revitalizing one of my favorite games. Great stuff!

Of course, because your game doesn't find the folder german in data\text.

(and that's why the french Fallout Community is working hard in making a translation of killap's new dialog files).

I suggest you either instal an english version of the game (thus making your game work with killap's english files) either start making a german translation.

When I talked to Lara after the party She says: "Did you kill Tyler and his guards? How are we supposed to prove ourselves to Metzger? He'll never hire us now. That was our only chance."
Then I can reply: "Sorry"," Too bad" or "That was me and your next."

So, what is supposed to happen, cause this can't be right.

Edit: Definitely a bug.
I've been able to make it several times now, but if Lara or any of her crew dies, even if I or my NPCs don't shoot them, I get the successfully ambushed Lara's gang quest.

This is likely from the AP damage fix mod part of the install (you probably clicked it when installing, like I did).
To test, edit the ddraw.ini file and go to the end and change DamageFormula=1 to DamageFormula=0 and see if that fixes.

From what I recall from previous posts in this thread from users of other language versions (like the one at the top of this page), you can just rename the english text folder to your current language (German I belive). You will then have a mix of german and english text (the english parts being the new and changed parts from killap) and german voices, but at least you'll have a working game.

If you are seriously interested in translating, the nessasary english files for translating are all in that text folder.

Theres about 700 differant dialog files totalling about 3 megabytes (and the combat messages which are nearly another megabyte), so its a pretty big job.
From what I can tell you can edit the .msg files with notepad.
To give you an idea of the size of the job you are getting yourself into, I belive the english Bible is close to that size as a pure text file. Although the dialog files have a bunch of # comments, and {} marks, etc that you wouldn't need to translate, so its not quite as much as all that.

I'm sure all the german fans would love you if you do it though :)

Edit: You could probably extract the original german files in your copy of the critter.dat and master.dat files and use some of the stuff thats already translated in there, but you'd have to compare with what was changed in killap's stuff. Not sure which way would be better in terms of the amount of work.
 
Anyone else?

I couldnt find this error in the thread. I cant get my character back when I try to load the game. Instead there is a new guy that I can walk with but nothing else. He has also 512 hitpoints.
When I tried to find the game in falche2, it couldnt find my character anymore.

In EPA :

On sub-level three there is the door asking for a code, the four codes aren't working (which I guess is normal), so you end up with a message saying that we should ask the Head of Public Relation for the override code (which is the guy in the power suit if I remember correctly).

Here's the problem :
After that I went to the room with the four holograms and talked to each of them :
- There's the guy who says "Sorry I couldnt be of more use"
- The girl who's I can only answer "No I don't want a tour"
- The guy who ask me if I'm done with the job (to kill every plants)
- And the power-suit guy, who asked me if I finished the job (of repairing the computers). I tell him I did, he gives me the key who's supposed to open the security wing (or something).

Afterward I tried to talk to him again (for the override code) but he simply doesnt want to talk to me, at all. I couldnt talk to him about the code before ending the conversation for the computers/card and now I can't igniate another one, since he simply says stuff in "yellow" over ihs head.


Am I screwed? Is this a bug or intented?
(I tried to use the card on the door, but to no avail)
 
Great job. Only two problems I've encountered so far (though Primitive Tribe is the only new place I've been):

- Getting the flint from the Aunt causes a CTD when you try to leave the area.

- The brahmin rustling quest still can't be solved.
 
Bug in EPA. Nice, but still a bug. :)
When I use the elevator on Security level (this one, for witch you need a password from hologram on this level) I'm not getting out, game thinks, and I'm still on this level, but it has been reloaded or something...every door are closed, and every locker have items, again. I can do this numerous times...having 10 and more gauss pistols, laser miniguns and other things is nice, but it is a bug :)
 
hey thanks a lot for this MOD, it is great! Fallout 2 the way it was supposed to be :clap:

there are a few bugs tho... but i hope you'll get rid of them in the next version(s)

i found one in the beginning, when i reached the bridge from Arroyo, the game crashed several times until i got lucky and it worked.

Dammit, you're right about that, I watched the names before writing the post but I guess I hovered around her before the guy and didnt aim good enough, then thought he was the head of public relations... x_x

My speech is high but not high enough I suppose, oh well too bad...
