Fallout 2 mod Fallout 2 Restoration Project Discussion (ideas/suggestions)

To Killap:

I suspect if the dev's had had time they would have
added an option into the 'burst mode' section of
NPC combat control to 'avoid hitting other freindlies'
when bursting. I dont know about anyone else but
i find one of the major limitations of NPC combat
control is the way marcus will make every effort to
avoid hitting you (the PC) with his minigun but
happily hose down sulik and vic.

Would it be possible to add this into combat control?

soooo, whats going oooooooon
Life.

I don't know if I mentioned it in this thread, but I am currently going through all the bugs that have been reported for the patch. The list is longer than I thought it would be and thus it is taking some time. I got a good chunk of free time coming up and I will use it to finish up things.

As for the expansion, it is sitting on my drive as I finish up the bugs in the patch. I have thought of one more thing to add to it before I release it with the new patch fixes. Again, this is something I should get done with my upcoming free time.

Let's shoot for an end of November release, perhaps?

Could we have that in writing? Perhaps signed as well? :lol:
Heh, I never sign anything. 8-)

Can you tell us what that is? Or do we have to wait?
Sure, not planning on making anything a secret. This idea was discussed in the patch thread. I will be expanding the gang war in the Den. There seems to be information hinting towards an intended attack on the guards who are at the party. Thus, since I am adding in the Residential area, I plan to add in the ability to attack the partying guards as part of the mission to help Lara.

That sounds like a great idea. Can't wait for the end of the month, or whenever this gets completed.

You so sexy, me love you longtime.

Seriously, this is going to be great. I've postponed my new run until whenever you get the expansion out, I felt it wasn't worth just using the patch as I really do feel the game is missing things.

Also, I love your committment, using so much of your free time for such a small audience, even if I and hopefully others will spread the word around ;).

Hi there killap!

It's been probably mentioned by now but just in case it hasn't I have to wite I found this in the Fallout Bible:

Code:
It was intended that while the player was reading the Vault 8 records in Fallout 2, he could discover a classified file (opened with a successful Science skill roll) which explained that Vault 8 was a "control Vault," designed to hold 1000 people and to open on time. This file was intended to foreshadow the discovery of the true and sinister purpose of the Vaults.

 The player was also intended to pply his Science skill to the central computer in Vault 13 to obtain a
history of Vault 13, the Overseer's involvement in the Vault Dweller's expulsion, and even worse, the true purposes of the Vaults. The Overseer was conscious of the true purpose of the Vaults as social experiments on a grand scale, and he drove out the Vault Dweller because he was afraid that he would ruin the experiment... or uncover it. Of course, the Overseer himself caused problems not long after this, according to Martin Frobisher, the leader of Vault 13 in Fallout 2:

"There used to be an overseer, many years ago, but he did a bad thing and many of our people left the Vault. Only to die in the Wastes, I’m sure. He was tried and sentenced to death for his crime. We haven’t used the title since."

Martin did not see the Overseer executed, however... his nformation comes from the Vault 13 records passed down by his ancestors.

Killap, Have you implented the shred papers miniquest in you expansion?

There is a inventory items for 3 shred pieces of paper and when combined it forms a paper with password written on it. It is related to Shi or Hubologists.

There is already a working code for this (look for San Francisco scripts) and when you add it to dude_obj script, papers will get combined automatically when you have all 3 pieces.

Hey I hope this expansion comes about while I am in Baghdad, I'm bring Fallout 1 and 2 with me... after all, when I got down time fighting insurgents, I have a wasteland to save.

No, I have not implemented this. Do you know what it is specifically for? Perhaps it has to do with the Shi sub and finding the code to disable it from attacking the Tanker?

@Kwiatmen666
Already taken care of. :D

@Carib FMJ
I am still chugging along with it. Release date keeps getting pushed back, but all with good intention. When will you be in Baghdad?

Well, I just checked and found out that the paper contains Physics, Chemistry and Biology station passwords for the Emperor computer.

@Killap

My journey starts Monday morn and then Kuwait for a few weeks and the Baghdad... Probably be in Baghdad in time for Christmas.

One question about the expansion: there is this, let's say, controversial case of merchants in San Fran and possibility to steal the money from them. Will this be corrected, or remain unchanged?

Currently, it isn't possible to show Bishop's holodisk to Lynette before you wipe out the raiders. I don't see any reason you shouldn't be able to. Not sure what effect it would have, but it's something to consider.

So now then end of November slipt can we get a new date to hang on to?
Yes. Expect a Christmas/New Year (Jan 1st/2nd) release day. I am really going to shoot for this date and don't plan on deviating from it.
